5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised!

Pros: Reasonably priced; easy to use/install; works as advertised & have had no issues with it.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for extra storage for my wife's music files, videos & pictures (she has a lot, so was looking for a cheap alternative without spending a small fortune for a larger thumb drive). Easy to put together & use - windows 7 (64bit) immediately detected the external drive and was almost instantly ready for use. It's great because it's portable, so she's able to share her files with friends/family.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall, a good choice

Pros: Quiet, Easy to use, decently fast transfer rates

Cons: USB power cable gets in the way, Short cord.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a very good choice for a external enclosure. I personally zip-tied the USB power cable to the transfer cable so that it doesn't get in the way.

4 out of 5 eggsGood external enclosure but...

Pros: This external enclosure looks nice and very easy to install, transfer speed is good.

Cons: Mini USB port... it is USB 3.0 speed. However, why this cable is so thick and not easy to bend around. I could only find one cable with Mini USB 3.0 connector on Newegg.

Other Thoughts: This external enclosure would sell better with a right cable. I'd buy 3 more if they made the port like other people have.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as USB 3.0

Pros: It's fast.

Cons: The latch is a little stiff. It feels delicate.

Other Thoughts: Since this uses a Mini USB port that looks exactly like the USB 2.0 Mini-B, there was some question as to whether it worked with USB 3. It came with a cable so I tested it.

I installed an old Corsair 60GB SSD drive and ran USBDeview.exe on it. Using the included cable I got 106 MB/Sec write and 144 MB/Sec write speeds. I switched to my old retractible USB 2.0 cable and ran the same test. It could only get about 30 MB/Sec read and write.

So it *is* a USB 3.0 interface but you'll need a USB 3.0 cable before it will work. Now I've got to find a nice retractible USB 3.0 cable.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked for me.

Pros: It took a 1 terabyte 7200 RPM drive with no problem.
I got a new laptop with Windows 8. I installed Windows 7 on this and finally found the drivers. No problems booting and running off this from a USB 3 port. Nice and snappy, much faster than the 5400 RPM drive the laptop came with.

Cons: None. Worked on a single USB 3 port for me.

4 out of 5 eggsAwsome Enclosure

Pros: Hard Case
dual usb connection for when a wall socket is not near by
fits every 2.5" drive i have thrown at it securely with tool-less design.
good speeds

Cons: dual usb ports can be a con for some.

Other Thoughts: as said in pros and cons this uses two usb plugs one for power and one for data i find it great for when i am actually mobile and can use the drive when i am no were near a power outlet. This can be a con since it takes up two usb ports and on most laptops you don't have that many but i just got a usb to ac adapter and keep it in my laptop bag and power usb port is red making it easy to tell the two apart. I have actually gotten six of these for myself and Clients who upgrade there laptop drive and this a great thing to use for the old drive so they even have more storage space.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure!

Pros: Looks awesome, easy to remove the drive, cable has the extra piece if more power is needed.

Cons: None yet...

Other Thoughts: I am surprised at some of the bad ratings. Especially SharePointGuy who gave it 3 eggs and didn't even know if the cable connection would limit the speed but docked 2 eggs anyways??? That made zero sense to me. I have had no problems with the push button latch release. My enclosure feels nice and solid with the drive loaded in it.

3 out of 5 eggsNice Enclosure, Wrong Cable Connector

Pros: Nice design, slick and solid

Cons: The connector for this device is micro USB. Not sure it will have the full speed of a 3.0 device

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. The micro USB connector that connects the cable directly to RVS02 will not affect its ability to run at full USB 3.0 speed. It is a standardized configuration.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Several features that I like on this device:
- The screw-less design
- The lightweight case
- USB 3.0 support

Cons: I wanted to use it to carry my laptop drive when travelling with my Android device and didn't want to bring my laptop. Three problems with making this work
1. They don't have an android driver
2. removing the hard drive from the laptop and then removing it's brackets is more work than I want to do on a regular basis - not their fault, just makes this application not as useful.
3. The Hard Drive I have requires more power than you can get from one USB Connection. Requiring a second connection or external power supply. The limits it's use in a mobile application.
If you are looking for a mobile solution, you might want to consider a new low-power drive. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not give any guidance as to what that threshold is.

Other Thoughts: I originally posted a review with a rating of 1. Afterwards, the Manufacturer posted a comment to look into power issues. This did solve the problem, however, it does point out the lack of documentation on the installation and use of this product. I wasted time on this device that could have been saved with just some additional noted in the manual. I did change my rating from a 1 to a 3. As the device does work, but just not for me.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work for me

Pros: The case is nicely made. The screw-less design makes it easy to install swap hard drives. I also like that that it is USB 3.0 ready. Being made of plastic, it is lightweight and would not weigh you down travelling with it.

Cons: Would not work with my desktop. I pulled a working hard drive from a laptop and installed it in this device. My Windows 7 Desktop failed to load the drivers and I could not access the hard drive. The drive is a SATA III device and should have worked.
I would have liked to access the device from my Android, but no drivers exist for it.
I might be able to get it to work with my Desktop, but that is not how I want to use it, I was hoping to use it while travelling, so won't pursue it further.
It will sit on the shelf.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping to use this while travelling, so I could pull my laptop hard drive and access the data from my android device while travelling light. The lack of Android support makes this impossible.

While the screw-less design is great to install the drive, it isn't of much value unless you plan to swap a number of drives in and out. For that one time install, it isn't a big deal to tighten a few screws. Also consider the source of the drive, unless you have a bunch or bare drives sitting around, you still need to remove the drive from its source, which will most likely require you to dig out the screwdriver anyways.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. Sounds like you may have a laptop drive that requires more power so please make sure to plug to two USB ports for additional power. If you do not have another USB port available, you may optionally use a +5V power AC adapter with the RVS02:

If power isn't the problem, then you may have a defective RVS02 that needs to be replaced. For additional assistance, you may contact us directly at:
