SST-ST55F-G
INTRODUCTION
To meet the ever higher requirements imbued by professional users and enthusiasts alike, SilverStone created the Strider Gold series power supplies.

The Strider Gold models are built on similar platform as the award-winning Strider Plus series but with even higher efficiency ratings. The Strider Gold series will encompass wattage range from 550W to 1200W for a great variety of applications. With a 140mm depth for easy intgration, the ST55F-G is the world shortest modular ATX PSU. In addition to 80 PLUS Gold level efficiency, all models are built to meet very high standards in electrical performance so they have ±3% voltage regulation, ±3% ripple & noise, and high amperage single +12V rail. Other notable features also included are 24/7 40° continuous output capability, low-noise 120mm fan, and multiple sets of PCI-E cables. For users looking for a power supply with faultless combination of performance, efficiency, and quality, there is no need to look beyond the Strider Gold Series.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems good

Pros: Reduced size is nice, I was able to build a monster mini-ITX system in a Fractal Node 304 (with a GTX 670 in there!). Modular is nice too.

Cons: Cables stick out a bit. In my small case, they press against the video card a tiny bit, which is unnerving. But it's workable.

Other Thoughts: I thought this failed on me and took my motherboard out with it, but it seems like the issue is just the motherboard as this PSU has been powering an older (but powerful, overclocked, power hungry thing of a) PC on a stress test all afternoon with no issue, so apparently no problem there!

Pros: Worked for a month

Cons: Died on me after a month and a week or two

Other Thoughts: Now I have to deal with this whole RMA business. Ugh.

5 out of 5 eggsPainless

Pros: Full modular + short cable kit = Heaven! I love not having cables strewn about in the case that aren't needed. I use a mix of the short cable kit and long cables to install only what is needed.

Cons: 24pin ATX power cable is one of those stupid 20+4 designs that can be annoying to get plugged in right. Worse still, the 8-pin auxiliary power cable that goes to the motherboard is a 4+4 design that actually was a pain to get plugged in (more a problem with my case being cramped at the top-left).

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd full modular Silverstone power supply. I put on in my HTPC right over a year ago and loved it so much that I bought this one to put in my new file server. Installation in a Raidmax Seiran case was mostly painless (see last con above). The short cable kit makes it a no-brainer to stick with Silverstone.

5 out of 5 eggsShort / Quiet / Efficient / Modifiable

Pros: Pairs Nicely with the Short Cable Set (also by Silver Stone).
Does fit in BitFenix Prodigy Case without modding.
Modular, Quiet, and Efficient. Looks nice.

Cons: Does not come with velvet bags, or case badges, or anything else gimmicky. (Not really a con).

Other Thoughts: I chose this PSU because I wanted something quiet, that fits in my Prodigy case, and is easy to sleeve.

The wires are especially easy to sleeve because of their 1:1 connector matchup. That means 1 wire per pin. This is not true of other PSUs (*cough* CORSAIR/SEASONIC *cough*) which I've read is a nightmare to sleeve. Also pins are simple to remove with a molex pin remover, and are good quality.

I have to mention that Silverstone's Customer Service is A+
Today's 24 pin connectors have one empty/unused pin (Pin 20), which lacks a wire.
For aesthetics alone, I was wondering if adding a wire would do harm to the PSU.
Called Silverstone, instantly spoke with a rep who found out for me it was A- OK!
I did my thing and it has been running perfectly for over a month now.

This is a high quality PSU.

3 out of 5 eggsNot best design

Pros: -Looks Nice
-Quiet
-Includes Black Screws!

Cons: The layout of the connectors negates most of the benefit of having a modular connector. Gained maybe 5mm of clearance switching from a 160mm to a 140mm drive.

Other Thoughts: I built an HTPC using a silverstone ML03B case. I saw another build that used an Silencer MK III 400W supply, but didn't notice that it didn't have an optical drive, so when trying to put both a Blu-Ray and the MKIII the build was short about 3 mm from allowing the sata power connector to fit. Long story short, I bought this one as it was 20mm shorter and should have provided more than ample room to put the drive in.

Upon installing this power supply I was met with the 24pin cable sticking right out of the back center of the supply, the molex connector itself negating several mm of clearance, and the wires themselves even more. After about 30 minutes of bending wires down it just barely fit with screws holding the optical drive in place tight against the wires in the back, and even then I had to use the cheaper MKIII sata cables as they were better suited to bending down to allow clearance.

Otherwise once powered on, it was quiet and I can't tell if the fan I am hearing when I put my ear near the media stand is the surround receiver or the HTPC.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Perfect size PSU for my mini ITX enclosure. Paired it with the Silverstone PP05 short cable kit and it made it significantly easier to fit all my components into a Fractal Node 304 case with room to spare. No trouble powering everything in my case either.
