5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: You can instantly put drives in - no single screw is needed.
Feels solid and looks great next to my other Silverstone case. Large, quiet fan.
Much more quiet and better look than my previous Sans Digital enclosure.
Great price.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Thank you Silverstone!

5 out of 5 eggsThis DOES Work With 6TB HDDs!

Pros: This unit is exactly what you expect. A reliable, solid, well built dual HDD Raid 0/1 enclosure. Do NOT waste $650 bux on the Western Digital 12TB dual bay enclosure. This does the EXACT same thing for $550 less!!!

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat External Raid1 Device

Pros: - Easy hardware install
- Easy software setup
- Case is solid as a tank

Cons: - None encountered so far
- Doesn't tell you when the RAID is finished building - or maybe it does

Other Thoughts: Easy to use. Just follow the instructions and initialize the disk after the RAID builds (which is really fast.

For Linux (haven't tested) I would get the RAID and everything built first, then connect it to the computer. It should detect OK USB wise. Then use Gparted or something similar to install partitions and then get your fstab updated.

Should be no reason why you couldn't install a distro on this as well.

I believe the hdd lights turn purplish when the raid is building / reading writing, so perhaps that is the indicator to look for initially. It turns to blue when finished / idle.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent RAID Enclosure

Pros: Durable feel - The steel enclosure and the aluminum door both feel durable, as well as the internal mechanisms.

Decent aesthetics - Looks sleek enough from the outside.

Simple and effective operation - Works well and as advertised. For those people who seem confused, most everything that you need to know is in the instruction manual*.

*You must use "Disk Manager" in Windows to setup a partition to be able to access the disks.

Cons: Dust magnet - The matte black steel exterior, as well as the shiny plastic displays under the coverings, are magnets for dust.

DID NOT COME WITH A POWER CABLE - I don't know why, but there was no power cable inside the box. Good thing that I had one handy.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a very highly regarded product. Functions well and as advertised, and looks good to top it off. The only real negative was the missing power cable. But hey, mistakes happen.

P.S. If Silverstone sees this review and feels obliged to send me a replacement power cable, I would greatly appreciate it.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. We apologize for the missing power cord, please contact our US office directly so we can arrange to send one to you. Contact info below:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Works very well, does exactly what it should and it does it well.

Cons: Could use better explanations and documentation for the less technically savvy

Other Thoughts: Don't blame the product for a lack of technical knowledge. Should know that USB can not support JBOD and that eSATA will require a port multiplier

3 out of 5 eggsupdate, got to work

Pros: Nice looking unit
can plug in, hot swap drives
I would recommend if you have esata and can implement AHCI.

Cons: Does not recognize both drives with USB 2 or 3, at least for me.
Manufacturer says it does for them. So it must be dependent on something that has not been identified.

Other Thoughts: I am using a machine with Ubuntu 12.
I got it to work in esata mode when I realized I could enable AHCI on the motherboard. Apparently this mode support port multiplier. I only learned this after considerable research. I still get a slight error with disk utility saying one of the drives is misalined by 512 bits, but it seems to work. This happens with either drive in the same position. Oh, one other interesting thing, machine takes about 5 minutes to boot when it is plugged in.

2 out of 5 eggsstill trying to figure this one out

Pros: Can hot swap drives (2)

Cons: Cannot get both drives working at same time with Ubuntu on USB3 to USB2 port on computer. Am going to get an addon USB3 adapter and see if that works.

Other Thoughts: Tried esata also and same problem - I understand that I need port replicator and guess I don't have this.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. For USB usage, you should have no problems using both drives in Ubuntu as we have varified this ourselves. If you have hard drives over 3TB, then you may need to repartition them inside the DS322 for them work. If you have more questions or need our assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us at the following e-mail address. We will be more than happy to help you:

1 out of 5 eggsContradictory Information from the Manufacturer

Pros: Not Much.

Cons: As promised I am updating my review based upon Silverstone's response. While Silverstone response to my original review states that a port multiplier is needed if you go to the manufactuer's product page (link on the NewEgg page) this is what it says: "With built-in hardware Raid 0,1,JBOD ..." and "Embedded RAID controller can reduce CPU utilization from the host PC and RAID controller cards are unnecessary." How Silverstone can post a response that directly contradicts their own product page and expect to have any credibilty is beyond me.

Other Thoughts: I would give it no eggs if I could.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the misunderstanding with the comments we made to your previous post. To clarify, the TS231U's built-in hardware will enable your TS231U to support RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD operation with or without port multiplier. This means if you like to use two drives in the TS231U without port multiplier, you will need to set the TS231U to run in RAID 0, RAID 1, or Combine (JBOD) mode.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks Good. Works OK in USB 2.0

Cons: The enclosure does not work as advertised using an esata connection. I have tried two seperate enclosures on two seperate computers with replacement disks and the results are always the same. When connected in ESATA the enclosure can only see one drive when only one drive is intsalled. If two identical drives are in place the Lenovo W520 it is connected to can recognize neither. This is only the case with the ESATA connection but that is how I ented to use the enclosure - the free USB 2.0 connections are a lot slower. New Egg was very good about RMAing one of the two enclsosures. However, I scratched the other during installation so I didn't expect them to take it in return so I basically have an expensive one drive enclsoure instead of the two drives I had planned.

Other Thoughts: I have contacted Silverstone. They at first thought the unit was damaged but when I explained that the problem is identical with two seperate enclosures they have acknowledged otherwise. They now say that they are looking into to the problem. If they come up with a fix I'll update my one egg review.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. If you are not using RAID, you must enable "port multiplier" to be able to detect more than one drive through one SATA connector. For more info on this topic, please visit the following link:
