Pros: The unit still does what it was advertised, the LEDs are still bright (but I resolved that, see below), the fan noise has become way louder (but this can be resolved too, see below). I now leave the unit on 24x7, as the starting up fan, does make a LARGE amount of noise, till it warms up. I knocked off one EGG for the two short comings, but, the unit still runs, the drives are still holding, and it does what it was supposed to, allow two sata hard drives to be connected using a USB connection.

Cons: First, the LED brightness. As the drives are usually just powered up, and the hard drive activity isn't that much, I opted to put a small strip of black electrical tape over the two power LEDs. If you use your drives a lot, you may want to add another small strip of black electric tape over the hard drive activity LEDs as well. I found the black electrical tape to be thick enough, and dark enough, that, you can still see the lights, but they don't act like night lights in your environment.

Other Thoughts: The last thing is, that blasted fan noise. First of all, this MAY void the warrenty, and, though this is a simple project, COULD, damage the case, the rubber feet, or the sensitive circuit board inside. First, power off the unit, remove the hard drives, and remove the power/USB cords. Place the unit upside down, in a nice comfortable place to work on it. Carefully remove the rubber feet (4 of them) on the bottom, try to keep the sticky on the feet, and not trash them. If the feet are damaged, you may need to go to an electronics store to replace them. You will find four Phillips head screws, under the feet, which hold the base plate to the main unit. Delicately remove the base plate to reveal the circuit board right under it. The fans power is that nice little two wire white plug, with a black and red wire coming from under the circuit board to plug into the connector. Carefully remove the plug, it has two locking tabs which keep it from being "accidently" removed. And, Tada, no more fan. The fan removal is not suggested, nor is the idea of replacing the little one inch fan, as this requires removal and replacing the main circuit board. I DO NOT recommend this, I did it, but, it could have EASILY damaged the ciruit board, or its sensitive connectors and power button. I also do not make any statements, that, not having a cooling fan in the unit, couldn't cause overheating. But, if the fan has died, and isn't running at all, this idea will not only save you from the noise, but, apparently won't be a cooling issue. If you want to get to the fan, to replace it, I suggest being EXTREMELY carefull, as you have to "pry" the board out, by getting the connectors past the case first, do not attempt to do the power button first! You will need to pry the case away from the power/USB connectors enough to get them around the case. Once the circuit board is past the case on that side, you can get the power button past by angling the circuit board. Underneath the circuit board is a connector that connects the sata/power connectors to the main circuit board, so the board can be removed completely. Once the board is removed, you can see the small cooling fan, and easily slides out of the case. You can replace it, hopefully with the same, but, don't attempt to clean it, as I have found, if the fan is making noise, it ISN'T because its dirty, its because its going bad. Once you are done, doing whatever you were doing, be it getting the fan shut off, or replaced, reverse the steps above. If you opted to remove the main circuit board, as I said, reverse the steps, put the power button side of the circuit board in first, and then gently, work the power/USB connector side of the circuit board in, lightly pulling the case back to let them go in. Ensure the main circuit board is situated in its mounting holes fully, and then replace the bottom base plate, attach the four screws, and re-stick the four rubber feet.

Pros: Does what it should. I have 4 of these, 3 which have been in use over a year.

Cons: The power button will wear out. If one of these fails on you, it will probably be that button. It will eventually start sticking and you have to pull it out in order to push it back in to turn the device on.

The fans.. I'd rather have my drives run a little hot than listen to the fan noise all day. I only use WD Green 2TB drives in the (store my BD collection on them), so heat really isn't a problem

Other Thoughts: Best of all the docking bays I've used so far, and that covers a few different brands. Been very reliable.

I bought mine locally about a month ago (found it here but needed it that day) after I started experiencing some flakiness with my on-board SATA connections. Works great. Slapped in two WD 640GB black data drives that I'd pulled and they went right back to working well as always. Yes, the front light is bright but I have the unit sitting sideways. You could also dim it with clear tape or nail polish or.... The fan is there but normally not too noticeable and I work from home. Mine's about two feet away right now and it runs around the clock, same as my computer. I'm not switching out these two drives with others so the powering down doesn't bother me either. I use an internal hot-swappable front-bay unit for other drives that I need to switch out more often. Solidly built, good price for a dual bay unit (even better when it's on sale!), worked right out of the box. Great for most anyone unless you want/need an absolutely silent work area or can't figure out a creative way to dim the light and/or you're swapping out drives every hour and even then, the process only takes a few extra seconds.

Pros: I bought this docking station, one for its price, two for its ability to handle up to 2 2TB SATA drives, and lastly, three because I wanted just a USB connection. Some docking stations have more connections, like having both USB and eSATA cable connections, but I didnt need the higher speed. I have to agree the fan noise is noticeable, but as I only have had it running for a day now, its really not that loud. If you have a monster gaming desktop computer case, along with all the extra cooling fans, you may actually have more fan noise coming from your case than this device. I also need to agree with the LED brightness. I have two Fantom external HD cases (which have blue LEDs) and both a Logitech blue back lit keyboard and a blue LED mouse pad, and none of them are as bright as the LEDs on this unit. Not a big deal, but if you like to have your computer environment "dark", these LEDs will almost light the room. The unit works perfectly for my Debian Linux install, once connected and powered up, it instantly detected the drives. I also purchased two Samsung 1 TB SATA drives, and they were drop in simple and quickly formatted in the docking station.

Cons: The LEDs are bright, and could be a bit too much in certain computer environments.

The fan can be heard, not overtly loud, at this early time of usage, but could be an issue if you like a quiet environment.

You do need to power off the docking station to remove a drive, even if its just one drive. (as suggested in the manual). Not exactly "hot swappable"

Even though the unit is plastic, it feels, and has a nice weight to it. The unit is also not just USB powered, and comes with both a USB cable and a AC/DC power pack (not one of this huge transformer plugs that go into the wall, but a regular power cable that goes to the transformer that then goes into the unit, like on a LCD/LED computer monitot)

Other Thoughts: For the price, its not a bad purchase. You can buy better, along with more money, but it does what it advertises.

Pros: Easy to use! Has not failed on any drive yet.

Cons: A little fan noise but thats to be expected.

Pros: Handles two 2TB Seagates, with no problems at all. Easiest drive installation I have ever had.

Other Thoughts: I've read the reviews about how terribly noisy these docks are, but fans make some noise. A fan that is silent isn't working. The noise, and the brightness of the led's is not a problem for me at all. Bottom line,, it works flawlessly.

Pros: Doesn't smell, but then I've only had it for a few hours.

Cons: Ridiculously loud, led lights way too bright, sporadic hard drive connectivity, power button requires pushing all the way inside the case to stick, no "eject" button to help unseat the hard drives, no way to swap out one drive without unmounting both. USB cable too short. Power cable too short. Barely heavy enough to stay balanced with just one drive inserted.

Cons: The docking station is so loud that it really cannot be used in a home environment. The fan noise is ridiculous. I cannot understate this: THE DOCK IS VERY LOUD. I only turn it on when I'm leaving the my room and I'm backing up my data. Unquestionably it is too loud to have in a room where you're trying to sleep, but it is also too loud to work in peace. It is only appropriate in a datacenter environment where there is other loud machines.

Another aspect of the dock that makes it unsuitable for home use is the blue LEDs are insanely bright. Not a huge con, but just another reason to not recommend this product

Other Thoughts: Purchased this device at a local electronics store for the purpose of plugging it into a linux server and swapping backup drives in and out.

It worked exactly twice: once in the windows machine which I was using to test the device, and once in the linux server where it was to live. After that, it started throwing -71 and -62 errors in any linux machine, and windows just reported that the device was malfunctioning. Returning it for money back.

Pros: This is a decent dock for 2 large SATA drives. I'm able to safely and easily dock 2 1.5TB Seagate drives without any noticeable difficulty. No drivers to install either, which is a nice clean benefit.

Cons: LED's are extremely bright! Too bright to leave on the desk shining towards you when working. Also... this device does NOT power up/down with the PC which is a somewhat moderate annoyance. It seems that for a good brand name, they could have included this feature. The Western Digital and Seagate external USB HD's I have all power up/down with the PC - why not SIIG?

Other Thoughts: The drives do run hot to the touch - it won't burn you, but it is definitely warmer than I care to have most of my equipment run - even with the built-in fan. I'm not terribly concerned about drive longevity since I really only use this for incremental backup, but it may be worth considering, especially since your drives will essentially be "hanging" outside in the free air and will collect dust (which also causes heat dissipation issues).
