1 out of 5 eggsDoes Not Work w/ 3TB Seagate Barracuda

Pros: nice simple but practical design. works flawlessly with 1TB WD Caviar Black 3.5". also works fine with 2.5" 500GB SATA drives. no problems with SSD 128GB.

Cons: problem started when i bought the new seagate 3000GB barracuda. this USB dock only sees 746GB, regardless of going GPT partitioning with seatools 'cuz it makes no difference.

Other Thoughts: i am stunned that newegg would describe this USB dock as supporting HDs up to 3TB. i clearly have a seagate model ST3000DM001 that does not work with it.

4 out of 5 eggsSo FAr So Good, What is the Extra Hole For?

Pros: Worked right out of the box, I was reading a drive with-in a few minutes and a windows 7 64 bit machine, it picked up the driver/software right away. I copied one drive so far, no issues.

Cons: Not really a con but from looking at the pictures I thought this had two separate bays one for 3 inch drive and the other for 2.5 inch drives it turns out the opening towards the front is just a dummy opening for stuff to sit in - Why?

Other Thoughts: What is that extra hole meant to be for?

2 out of 5 eggsPooped out on me

Pros: Future-proofed with USB 3.0 interface.
Nice fan.
SIIG seems open to RMAs.

Cons: Power supply bit the dust within a month, though SIIG tech rep said the adapters don't fail often.

Other Thoughts: First to market doesn't imply durable. What's so hard about including a reliable power supply? *Sigh.*

3 out of 5 eggsIt works most of the time, the fan is annoying

Pros: It works most of the time, USB 3.0 speeds means it's really not any noticeably slower than when my drive was used internally.

Cons: Occasionally the fan doesn't quite spin up all the way, and the device doesn't register as having been attached to the computer...this has only happened a couple of times however, and a quick turning it off and back on seems to resolve it.

The real con here is that this thing is not only loud, but the sound it makes is ANNOYING. The fan has a constant buzzing noise that drives me up the wall. I've wound up ordering a Vantec Nexstar which is designed to be a giant heatsink and eliminate the need for a fan.

Other Thoughts: People are correct about the Blue LEDs, they are extremely bright, but then all blue LEDs are. Generally I don't notice because I actually keep this device on the floor.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need it to do

Pros: It utilizes the USB 3.0 speed that it is equipped with. I have had no issues with connectivity between my computer and dock/harddrive. Very simple and easy to use.

Cons: The fan. It's pretty loud. I thought heating might be an issue when I first ordered the docking station, but it turns out I am not using the dock as extensively to worry about heating. Now I'm stuck with a device that makes noise after I put time and money making my computer as silent as possible. Small issue, but definitely worth considering when purchasing. And yes, the blue LEDs are very blinding.

Other Thoughts: Overall, great product if you can look past little nuances like fan noise or ultra bright blue LEDs.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Good

Pros: It is fast compared to USB 2.

Cons: Four bright LED's are blinding! As far as I can see 3 of the 4 have no function except to light up the room.
The fan is far from silent.
Windows 7 will back up to this unit but a recovery disk can not find the back or image file.
Would not recommend to anyone.

Other Thoughts: Tone the LED's down,
Include some drivers that will allow Windows 7 and Norton Ghost to see backup's from a recovery disk.

5 out of 5 eggsUsual SIIG high quality

Pros: First tried on front panel USB 2.0 using 2 old Seagate
disks-1 8MB cache source-other 16MB target-used copy- paste in W7-Hom Prem 64bit-copied 28.2gig mixed files-pictures ubuntu iso lots of intel driver down loads etc- timed with watch Then installed new SIIG USB 3.0 card and repeated after formatting target disk- about twice as fast

Cons: BRIGHT BLUE LEDS

Other Thoughts: Replaces BlacX purchased Dec 2009 which had done precisely 6 monthly clones then died!!
NEVER had a problem with SIIG stuff & I've bought a lot

5 out of 5 eggsGood Buy

Pros: Good dock. Fan Blows well although I have a desktop fan augmenting this (replaced a USB2 Dock). Getting about 70MB/sec backup on a 2.5Ghz AMD 9850 to external 1.5 TB seagate drives (for backup). This is about the same speed I would get with eSATA but now I can yank the drives out. The eSATA chipset I have never allowed it. Backup times reduced to 1/3. Thumbs up!

Cons: Are we faster than Firewire 800 yet? Although sarcastic, this stuff should have been settled years ago.

Other Thoughts: Matched with an internal SIIG PCI USB 3 card.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Excellent unit with fan. Power button is in the front. Nice case.

Cons: As said by another person, the led are extremely bright. I have my case sitting next to my LCD, and it's so bright my eyes hurt.

Other Thoughts: Wish power would be integrated.
