5 out of 5 eggsAwesome product

Pros: Great. Device! I've used this many times at work to pull data off a HDD and have also used it to format other drives and has worked nicely. A great add for computer techs!

Cons: A little flimsy but I took it apart anyways and use it without the case. So far have had zero problems with it!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great transfer speed, great build quality, good-looking, very good airflow

Cons: 8 screws to put together is a bit excessive, and on my particular enclosure the top panel jiggles around a little if the screws are all the way tightened.

Other Thoughts: It does the job perfectly fine. I can take advantage of the full speeds of my 1TB external hard drive, and the vent on the back and clearance above the drive provides good airflow so the drive doesn't overheat as with some enclosures. The drive is also very secure in the enclosure. That brings me to my next point: the screws. There's four to mount the drive inside, and four to attach the top and bottom panels to the enclosure. If you plan on swapping drives in this thing often, then it is not for you. Putting in a drive can be a pain. If you're just using this for your day-to-day storage drive, then this is excellent. Takes drives up to 3TB according to the specs.

2 out of 5 eggsYou Get What You Pay For

Pros: When it works, it works quickly and fairly quietly. The sides are abit flimsy though. Don't expect it to hold up well in a laptop bag or anything.

Cons: Stopped working after 6 months.

Other Thoughts: Next time I'll pay more for something that will hopefully last longer.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat performance, Good looks, Good Cable

Pros: THis is one speedy External enclosure, it is limited to the Uses the ASM1051 Chipset, outputting Reading/ Writting 110MB/sec on a 2.5in HGST 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB cache drive, 80MB/sec on a HGST 5400RPM 640GB 8
MB cache drive. The Full size USB 3.0 Y cable and ports ensures adequate power to spin your hard disk. This Enclosure looks beautiful thanks to its brushed aluminum body, and conducts heat well with lots of air circulation holes at the ends of the enclosure. My two hard drives that i tested, mount securely to the plastic frame

Cons: The frame to which you bolt your HD is is plastic. The circuit board that connects to your 2.5in drive is only stabilized by some sturdy plastic tabs and you must be really careful to align in in the housing to fit properly...

Other Thoughts: For the price i payed, 19 bucks, it was worth it. Despite the funky internal construction, the enclosure is pretty reliable in its performance, connection and data speeds. USB 2.0 speeds are consistent,, R/W 27-31 MB/sec. Initially my USB 3.0 speeds did vary from 27MB/sec to 100 MB/sec. Make sure you have the latest drivers to ensure fast transfer speeds in your computer, i had to download new USB 3.0 drivers from Intel for my new desktop and laptop with windows 8 x64. Windows 8 has horribly underdeveloped drivers for many peripherals including most wireless network adapters, but that is another story. After downloading the latest drivers, speeds are never lower than 48MB/sec and average 80MB/sec. Again min/avg/max speeds depend on how fast your HD is. The enclosure is fast, seems to secure, holds the HD firmly in place and is sufficiently durable to deliver years of fast service, and keep the drive cool, but the aluminium frame is rather thin and light, and is just fine chilling on the desk, but I wouldnt trust it with the daily abuse of leaving it in my backpack as i do for too long... Grab a $5- $10 HD case for it.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent enclosure

Pros: + Works as advertised
+ Y cable included if more power is needed
+ Uses relatively standard Male A to Male A USB3.0 cable
+ Should support 12.5mm hard drives (I have not personally tried it)

Cons: - Needs 8 screws to assemble it
- Aluminum top and bottom panels are less than 1mm thin

Other Thoughts: Uses ASMedia chip for those who care (reportedly some VIA usb3.0 chipsets are buggy during long file transfers). Otherwise just your standard enclosure. It was kind of a pain to assemble, you need 4 screws to attach the drive to the cage and then another 4 screws to secure top and bottom panels for a total of 8 screws. You need to repeat the process every time you swap a disk. Technically you could get away with just 5 screws, one to attach the drive and 4 to secure the top/bottom panels, but it still feels like way too much. On the plus side the drive doesn't rattle inside the cage, so that's a positive. Y cable is included, which is good in case a single USB port can't provide enough power to spin up your hard drive. The USB port on the enclosure is a Type A, it's kind of unusual, but it is standard and cables are available if you need them replaced. This enclosure is significantly taller than your standard 9.5mm one. In theory it should support 12.5mm drives, although I have not personally verified it. The newegg description says 12.5mm drives won't fit, however if you go directly to manufacturer's website, SIIG says it supports 12.5mm drives. The top and bottom panels are aluminum and extremely thin, I feel as if I could bend them with my own bare hands, so take some caution and do not bang the enclosure too much.

2 out of 5 eggsSiig enclosure

Pros: Seems like it has been a good enclosure for others.

Cons: Mine came with some little piece loose inside (like a broken solder joint or something. I installed the drive in it and it works but then occasionally causes blue screens. Removing the drive from my laptop eliminates the blue screens. I'm sure this has to do with the broken part. I doubt shipping was responsible for the broken part inside, so I have to dock eggs for poor quality control.

5 out of 5 eggsGood little enclosure.

Pros: Speedy little thing. Maxes out my 7200RPM 500GB Seagate Momentus drive read/writes without any bottlenecking on the enclosure's end (114MBps on both, or thereabouts, compared to 40ish on my old USB 2.0 enclosure).
Drive screws into the base unit (some might consider this a con, but I want my drive to be secure).
Cover plates are aluminum, looks very, very, very, very nice as a whole.

Cons: Y-cable is annoying and too short, ordering a longer one.
Cable is also USB Male A to Male A, not the most common cable format out there. Not too much of an issue as Newegg has no shortage of those, but might not be available at your local electronics shop or something.
Metal plates flex a little bit when you squeeze them; they're quite thin. Still, they're not going to bend at all, and I don't see this enclosure breaking on me within the next few years. And I don't baby my portable external drives.

Other Thoughts: Really good for the money. Get this and a 2-dollar straight cable (or stick with the Y-cable if you don't mind the Y-shape and don't need a longer cable). No regrets purchasing this at all, extremely pleased.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Love this little thing, I replace my hdd with a ssd in my laptop and I am using the old hdd in this and it works just perfectly.

Cons: 1 egg off just for how hard it was to get the drive installed into the enclosure.

Other Thoughts: Would like it better if it was a bit bigger for the drive to get into the enclosure on the install. Also I would like a couple of screw holes to hold the drive in.
