3 out of 5 eggsNo Sleep

Pros: Solid. Easy setup.

Cons: It would not put the HD drive to sleep when the PC did. Switched the drive to the older SIIG HSB 2.0 enclsure (model # JU-SA0E12-S1) and it sleeps fine now. Might be because I was using a USB 2.0 PC.

Other Thoughts: If you're planning to put this on a USB 2.0 PC, you might want to get the older SIIG enclosure.

1 out of 5 eggsDifferent Chipset

Pros: - Simple design

Cons: - Different chipset than what is listed on their website
- Both Mac and Windows ran only at USB 2.0 speeds

Other Thoughts: I purchased this locally at F--s Electronics so nothing against NewEgg here.

The box clearly states that this is a UASP enabled device that works with Windows 7 on and Mac OS X 10.8 on.

But on their website, it states that Windows 8 is needed to take advantage of the UASP speeds.

Confusing.

So, I tested this on both OS's on my 2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro.

Mac OS: 10.10.2
Windows OS: 7 Ultimate 64 bit

In both OS's, it only showed up as running in USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mb/s).

Yes, I connected it with a USB 3.0 cable to a USB 3.0 enabled port on my computer. And since my computer only has two USB 3.0 ports, I really couldn't go wrong there.

To compare, I have a Touro Desk Pro 4tb USB 3.0 and it blazes along at the USB 3.0 SuperSpeeds (5 Gb/s) on both OS's.

So if you want the UASP capability, make sure you have the correct chipset ... ASM 1153E ... I believe is the correct one to take advantage of this according to Siig's website. And probably to be safe, have Windows 8.x installed.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and well built.

Pros: Solid construction. Great design. Fastest external I have used. On off button on front. Quiet.

Cons: If you release the latch and have enclosure pointed down the guts fall on floor. Fortunately no hard drive in yet when it happened. No damage.

Other Thoughts: Use as my main external backup for pictures. Just changed for one TB to 2 TB.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: No issues since I bought it 6 months ago.
Works great over both USB2 and USB3.
Tried two different hard drive. Both work perfectly.
Easy to install. Drive feels securely in place.
VERY sexy.
Drives run cool.
It has a power button.
Uses standard USB3 and power connectors.

I get speeds of roughly 120MB/s read/write over USB3.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: Although the connector looks different than the traditional USB2 cable. The traditional USB2 cable DOES fit this drive. The connector this uses is the standard USB3 connector, which was meant to be backwards compatible with USB2. The USB3 cable simply includes a little extension that provides room for 5 more connectors for additional data and power.
So, if you lose this cable, you can simply use any regular USB2 cable that most printers and 3.5" hard drives use. It would work perfectly. You just won't get the faster speeds.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Once assembled the unit is a nice size.

Cons: Lids don't slip on easily. They catch on end piece. I had a 1G seagate drive in it and did not experience any problems. However when I tried to install a 2G drive it would not start up. Evidently the power supply in the enclosure will not support enough current for larger drive. Very disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Product!

Pros: Small and Compact.

Cons: I opened this product today and the screws weren't installed. Then I found out that the screws didn't fit the holes. So I looked for some smaller screws I had stashed away in my house, and those screws didn't fit. Waist of my time! Don't buy this product unless you want to return it back :P
