Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggsBrittle connection.

Pros: While it was connected to my laptop, it worked (intermittently). I could store files and move them between my laptop and the external HD.

Cons: I bought this used from a friend, so I don't know how he handled it, but he's a careful, tech savvy guy in his 30's, for what it's worth.

The connection from the USB cable to the enclosure is brittle. When it worked at all, it would disconnect from my laptop 10 minutes into watching a movie which was on my external HD. This was even when it was perfectly still.

Eventually, after a week or two, it disconnected after 1 or 2 minutes. I took it to Best Buy so I could get a new one. When I showed them the connection, I said, "If I continuously press upward like this near the connection, it seems to stay connected." As I said that and applied light pressure, I and the two Best Buy associates I was talking to heard a "snap!" like a wishbone or twig snapping in two.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Field Adapter

Pros: Quick to swap out drives, easy to install.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I use this drive in my tech business as a way to connect laptop HDDs when I'm in the field. It has never failed to connect both SATA and PATA drives, and I've never had problems reading drives with it. It is easy to use and convenient to have.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to install

Pros: Fast and no problems

Cons: A little hard to get the USB cable into it.

Other Thoughts: Installed a WD Scorpio Blue 320GB SATA 3.0Gb/s in it with no issues. Getting in a Corsair Force Series 3 2.5" 240GB in a couple of days, will try it also.

1 out of 5 eggsTerribly flimsy design

Pros: It would have been usb 3.0 and supported both IDE and SATA 2.5" drives.

Cons: The USB port on the enclosure is barely attached to the rest of the internals and broke the first time I plugged it in. Imagine something adhered with a single layer of electrical tape and you have the idea. I've had external drives for the last decade, work as a computer repairman man, and never had a problem, but this broke the first time I plugged the included cable in (yes I put the smaller end in to the drive).

Other Thoughts: This is the biggest piece of junk I've ever seen SIIG make, usually they only manufacture quality parts.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: Small and easy installation

Cons: Did not work at all with SSD

Other Thoughts: I plugged in a SanDisk Extreme SSD 240GB, to a Dell Precision M4600 with USB3 ports, Win7 x64. Windows found the drive, but could not format. Plugged in extra USB power, still no go. Tried another PC, would not format. Connected directly to SATA port, was able to format drive, then hooked it up to enclosure again, crash Win7 trying to copy a file to it. SSD worked fine when connected directly to SATA port.

4 out of 5 eggsMaybe I got a bad one...

Pros: Very, Very fast 6Gbs.
Caddy Tray.
Comes with screwdriver.

Cons: Fat ugly USB 3.0 cable.

Other Thoughts: When it worked, my Samsung 830 SSD was writing almost 250MB/s. After that, I lost all my data and couldn't get it formatted or partitioned in OS X. I removed the SSD and slipped in a GoFlex 3.0 adapter that I had laying around and I was able to Partition and format it again.
