4 out of 5 eggsFixed - annoying blue light

Pros: Construction quality (mostly), performance - both USB 2 and3

Cons: Annoying blue light, too many labels

Other Thoughts: I read the reviews before purchasing as I have had too many external enclosure controller failures. Exterior housing is aluminum and contains a quiet fan. Drive tray and end caps are plastic.

I saw the comments about the "annoying blue light" but had no idea the extent of the "blue light". When the unit has power the entire front of the case is blue where the label says "Venus DS3 sata ->USB3". When there is drive activity the entire front panel flashes blue - very annoying.

I solved this problem by disassembling the front cover - the black part of the cover just snaps out when you pry it out with a screwdriver placed in the conveniently provided slots. The flashing front cover is a clear plastic insert piece with a blue LED placed at the end. I covered the end of the cover with a small piece of black electrical tape to prevent the LED light from being defused through the plastic insert. I then drilled a small hole in the black front cover ring over the LED to provide much smaller and less distracting power and drive activity indicator.

5 out of 5 eggsExternal drive

Pros: This in enclosure has a Western digital drive 1.5 T added to it. The USB 3 is fast. Even faster than the seagate drive I sent back after breaking down twice.

5 out of 5 eggsDriver followup

Pros: Follow up to review

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you need the driver for the USB 3.0 PCIe card that comes with this enclosure, you can find it here under heading: "USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Host Controllers"

5 out of 5 eggsWoks with WD TV Live

Pros: ~Quiet speed control fan
~Stylish AL construction
~Included USB 3.0 card
~Backwards compatible with USB 2.0
~One touch Backup Button
~USB cable is nice and flexible

Cons: ~A little pricey, especially if you don't need the USB 3.0 card.
~Slightly longer power cord would have been nice., but not essential.

Other Thoughts: I used a Seagate Barracuda Green ST2000DL003 2TB 5900 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s drive in this enclosure and it worked great!

Make sure you format it to NTFS and not exFat otherwise it will not be seen by some devices. I do not believe that the PS3 has NTFS support though.
