It works...
- Pros: Price, USB Cable. I have had it for over a year and have no problems with it at all. works on Ubuntu, Vista, XP, and Server 2k and 2k3 without issues or drivers.
I even leave it in the leather pouch and don't have a worry about it at all.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: Remember this is a $7 device it's nothing special. It works. It has 2 USB cables. 1 for Data+Power 1 for only power. If you plug in the wrong one it may not work. If you plug in only the data+power it works for low power drives.
It's a simple device and if you can't figure it out then you shouldn't be using computers to being with.
Good Deal
- Pros: Inexpensive and worked as advertised. Great deal for the price. Ordered on Friday, received on Monday despite shipment from CA to NY. Needed it to clone laptop drive.
- Cons: Instruction say to plug cable into computer first then into case but had to do the opposite to get the drive going.
- Other Thoughts: Successful laptop upgrade from 60GB to 320GB. Used with a Western Digital (WD) drive and tried to use free Acronis WD True Image to clone for use in my laptop. Software would not install because it couldn't see a WD drive as a result of USB connection. Contacted WD support who couldn't help because they don't support USB connection of "internal" drive. Fortunately I have Acronis from a previous desktop installation but lost the serial no. so couldn't install but by booting from the disk I was able to use the software successfully.
Does what its supposed to
- Pros: Does as its supposed to, put two hdd's from broken laptop in and it read them right away.
- Cons: Was not aware that instead of an external power, it requires two usb's on the host pc.
- Other Thoughts: Despite dual usb's on host pc, it does what it is supposed to at a great cost. and it looks pretty good too.
