4 out of 5 eggsLoud PSU

Pros: Seems to be a very strong PSU. It fits in the HP Slimline case well. Its about half the size of the original PSU. Going from a 160w to a 350w is a nice jump. lots more connection types incase you want to upgrade the motherboard. All in all it is very good. This PSU also doesn't run near as hot as the original.

Cons: The rear fan is very loud but not a high pitch type of loud. Sometimes the fan will run loud and sometimes it will be ok depending on the load it is under. There are a lot more cables so the extra space from being half the size of the original PSU will be used up. It comes with a standard size 24pin motherboard connector. You will need to buy a 24pin to Mini HP 24pin adaptor. Yes, the motherboard is 24pin and not 20pin, so don't make that mistake. I found mine on a competitor's website because Newegg didn't have one. Sorry Newegg I still love you guys.

Other Thoughts: I probably should have bought the 400w one seeing that it is only $10 more. It will support more video card possibilities. I don't mind the Loud fan so much and it does move more air. Just hope it lasts and if it doesn't I can just get a better 40mm replacement and solder it in.

2 out of 5 eggsExtremely loud... but it works

Pros: It is way shorter than previous power supply, so it frees up some breathing room so to speak, as the case is pretty tight normally.
powers a more powerful GPU

Cons: EXTREMELY LOUD!! The fan ran for me at 28dB before I switched it with a 60mm fan (using a 40-60mm adapter) that runs at 16dB! That's equivalent to a baby screaming in your ear... I bought two, and both had same problem. In my opinion, bad decision on Athena's part for such a small fan, unless both are just defective.

Tons of wires at the back that you have to deal with, have fun!

Do not forget to buy the 24 pin to 20 pin converter, as the motherboard only takes the 20 pin connection.

Other Thoughts: I bought this PSU to upgrade my HP Slimline s3400f PC's graphics. I Installed a Sparkle Nvidia 520 low profile GPU. It has worked well for over a year, and I just recently replaced the fan after deciding that in first, my right ear deserved better than temporary deafness, and second, my sanity was wearing thin. If you buy this and the fan is loud for you, change the fan! (if you are technically capable)

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for submitting a review of our product. We, at ACPC, would like to address the User's noise complaint. The AP-MFATX35 utilizes a 40mm fan due to its compact size. Our Product Development team selected the installed fan as they deemed it to provide sufficient thermal dissipation performance for cooling the PSUs internal components. In regards to the 28dB test result, we are extremely proud of it. Common knowledge is the following: 40dB = a quiet urban library, 20dB = leaves rustling, and 120dB = a baby screaming. Thanks again for your review!

2 out of 5 eggs2 out of 5 had a strange problem

Pros: THe PSU was good. The Power Cord Measured Good. They didn't work together. See Other thoughts section for an explanation.

Cons: Someone at Athena is not doing a good job in outgoing quality, See Other Thoughts Section.

Other Thoughts: After doing some debugging, the supply itself seems to be fine. I built 5 systems using this small supply and 2 of the 5 Asus Mobtherboards would not fire up. Nothing happened and no LEDs lit up. At first I thought I had assembled the computer wrong. But then when I swapped out the Athena Power Suppy, the problem followed the supply. The motherboards all worked perfectly. I thought it was strange that I would get 2 out of 5 bad supplies. Then I put a multimeter on the line cord and it showed 120 Volts. So the line cord looked good. That made me think that the two supplies were duds. But then I got new line cords from stock and plugged them in to the power supplies that would not fire up. That worked fine. So there seems to have been some incompatibility between the PSU itself and the line cord.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: 350 Watts
Numerous cables
Mini ITX and ATX supported
Quiet on idle

Cons: For ITX, and Micro ATX cases, cables can be too long
Loud fan "under load"

Other Thoughts: While I do not have the A+ certification that most industry insiders recognize as a Computer hardware "professional", I have been building custom PCs for 12+ years for myself, friends and family. My track record is spotless, and I'm always pushing the boundaries with my builds...

My review:
Installing this PSU into my Antek isk300-150 was tight with the extra cables, but once it was all in there, and closed, it was out of sight and out of mind. I even managed to keep the air intake area clear...ish

I've been running this PSU for several months now on a gaming Mini ITX (steambox) that has an up time of about 4 months (shutting down for no more than 1 or 2 days in a stretch). The Athena 350 PSU has not failed to power everything my mini monster demands of it (accept USB power which does max out after 4+ devices, easy fix with a AC/DC powered USB HUB).

My Build:
~intel i5 3570k Processor
~ASRock Z77E-ITX Z77E-ITX mobo
~8 gig ram (2 4gig sticks)
~Radeon HD 7750 1GB DDR5 graphics
~Antec ISK 300-150 Black Mini-ITX Case

I can run Skyrim (with the high end graphics mod), StarCraft 2, and Portal 2 at max setting.

Under normal load (movies, youtube, web searching, spotify) the PSU fan is minor, and almost unnoticeable. However, once I start gaming, and the temperature starts to rise, this fan kicks up to high gear and my steambox sounds like an Xbox 360 power brick! Yes, it's that loud.

I understand that the PSU was not designed to handle the load that I am throwing at it. The GPU requires a minimum 400watt PSU, so i am LITERALLY pushing the specs of this PSU. And for running so smoothly while on the threshold above it's peak, I give this 4 eggs.

I took one egg away because I really wish the fan was a little quieter on the high end. AGAIN... this PSU was not designed for the amount of torment I'm exposing it to, and it has worked like a boss... but the fan is the only down side. I'm keeping my eye out for Athena to upgrade their ITX style fans to something a bit quieter, even if it means paying more, so that the small form fact case can be as quiet as possible while even under max load (temperature).

In the long run, I'm tempted to upgrade the fan myself... while this will void the warranty, I must say that seeing how well it is handling things, it could be worth the risk.

I am very pleased.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for submitting a review of our product. Your feedback is very valuable and greatly appreciated. Although most ACPC PSUs are designed to be able to handle a higher load, than what is stated on its label, we would like to stress that we do not recommend any user doing so. In regards to the fan noise at Full Load, we had taken in to consideration noise, cooling performance, cost, etc. while selecting the product's fan. It is highly important that a small form factor PSU be adequately cooled. However, should you do experience issues with our product, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service via landline at (626) 810-5008 or via email at service@athenapower.us. Thanks again for your great feedback!

1 out of 5 eggs350w mini ITX psu

Pros: Small

Cons: Perhaps too small, this thing is LOUD, the tiny fan spins so fast I think it creates more heat. I usually have to use with the case cover off to make sure it doesn't over heat. There are way to many cables and are too bunched together, for a HP slimline, the cables usually have to be routed outside the case or cut. Not too long after installing this I began to experience problems with my mobo, computer would shutoff and fans would twitch, put back the original psu and it works fine, so I know it is an issue with this psu.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience. The fan and the power supply maybe fauly and we suggest conducting a RMA. Our Flex 350w carry and 3 year warranty. If you would like to conduct a RMA for the power supply. Please feel free to contact us at service@athenapower.us or call us at (626) 810-5008.

4 out of 5 eggsMine is quiet.

Pros: Works in an HP Slimline. Got a quiet one.

Cons: Cables are too long for ease of use in the HP case and hard to stuff out of the way.

5 out of 5 eggsGood power supply

Pros: Works and provides ample power. I was really scared the first time I turned it on because it sounded like it was about to explode, but after a few hours of use, it shut up pretty well is actually a quiet little power supply. Maybe I got lucky and got a good one, but I was seriously debating returning it until it started to quiet down.

Cons: Just the loud noise that scared me in the beginning. No explosions yet, so I think it's fine.

1 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: It's a great little thing, very compact and not too shabby on the price

Cons: Definitely should have a description letting people know that they need to purchase an additional adapter for the HP Slimline. I've had my computer sitting there for a month because I can't find anywhere to purchase that little mini PSU adapter. Epic Fail.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power want to apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing, there are certain systems in the market that require a mini 24pin connector but our connector in the FlexATX meets the standard 24pin which is used more. We will be happy to assist you with this issue though and would like it if you can contact us either via e-mail at service@athenapower.us or by calling one of our service representatives at (626) 810-5008. Thank you.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great but is way too loud

Pros: 1. Works great
2. powers my computer
3. has plenty of connectors
4. No problems in 2-3 weeks of use

Cons: Only one, but its a major one... its really loud. It doesn't help that my computer sets up on the desktop. But still, the old power supply was not noticible with the computer on the desktop. This is just way too loud. You can hear it from a nearby room. Athena, I would like to take you up on the offer for a quieter unit that you have given to other reviewers. Anything but this.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power will be happy to assist you in correcting this issue, please contact our service department for immediate service at service@athenapower.us or by calling us at (626) 810-5008. Thank you.
