5 out of 5 eggsMini-ITX PSU Replacement

Pros: More power than I expected for a small PSU. Generous selection of connectors for upgrading a mini-ITX computer. Physically shorter than other similar power supplies which provided extra space to stow unused cables. Very Quiet. No issues yet with power levels, seems smooth.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: As a middle-of-the-road brand, considering the physical size of the PSU and the diversity of provided connectors, this is a good offering.

Pros: Small form factor, 400W

Cons: Loud fan, sounds like a jet engine on mine whenever I'm doing anything that puts a load over 10% on my CPU

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 1.5 Years with fire and smoke

Pros: Good Wattage

Cons: Loud
Failed With Fire and Smoke

Other Thoughts: I was lucky I turned off the PC in time. It didn't fry the rest of the system, though. Too bad I threw it out. I had the warranty and forgot about it.

3 out of 5 eggsFan is too loud

Pros: Small, plenty of power

Cons: Fan is too loud - sounds like a high end GeForce or Radeon at full load.

Other Thoughts: Plenty of power and connections - however the fan is very loud, sounds like a helicopter taking off, as such not suitable for HTPC use.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted A Year

Pros: Fit into my Shuttle Case.

Cons: First one had to be RMA'd as it only lasted about one month. Now after about a year, the replacement has died.

Other Thoughts: I am frustrated. This was in an HTPC with very light use, I mean maybe once a month for a few hours amount of use. IT was plugged into a UPC so power conditioning was not an issue. I will never buy from this company again!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for submitting your review of our product. We, at ACPC, make great efforts to provide quality products. In this case, we definitely would like to understand the Operating environment and System Configuration. Should any User experience issues, we encourage that our Customer Service be contacted for assistance at service@athenapower.us or via landline at 626-810-5008. Thanks again!

3 out of 5 eggsFollow up to my previous review

Pros: I contacted Athena Power after my PSU failed thinking that I was out of luck due to the timeframe. They immediately started the RMA process and helped me find a copy of my purchase invoice. Even if I hadn't found that, they were willing to RMA the PSU. I am impressed by their customer service so far.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: While I have to wait until the new PSU arrives to see about the quality of the unit, I am impressed with Athena Power's willingness to take care of their customers.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience and feel free to contact us at service@athenapower.us or call us at (626) 810-5008 if you ever need assistance, concerns and issues with our products.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Slimmer than Stock PSU. Big 400> 240W.

Cons: only two small mounting brackets non adjustable.

Other Thoughts: This PSU is 1/3 smaller than the stock 240 PSU in my Acer AX3400. It had all the cables needed and then some.

Fit very will in my Mini ITX case.

2 out of 5 eggsHm..not a good first impression

Pros: It is very small and quiet. It has all the connectors that you would need.

Cons: Lifespan. This unit died within hours of turning it on for the first time.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this PSU despite the less than glowing reviews of other PSUs from Athena power. This particular supply had good reviews at the time so I took the risk because I need a PSU with very small physical dimensions. I was building this computer before a deployment and when I found out I couldn't take it with me, I stopped the build. About nine months later, I have finally assembled the machine and the PSU dies within the first two hours of use. Needless to say, I'm not exactly excited about this unit.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience and we would like to assist you with an RMA for the defective PSU. Please contact us at service@athenapower.us or call us at (626) 810-5008 and a service representative will be happy to assist you with the RMA. Thank you.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Now i fix the problem of the fan, after 2 months the fans becomes more loud ,i can hear it with headphones, i decided to finish with this problem
If you want the most silent, buy 2 80mm fans,if you have the HP Slimline, make a hole to put on the open case of the PSU, those fans, you can remove the blackplate removing the screws, now you only conenct the fans to the motherboard, now enjoy the silence, now i have a machine with a noise aprox of 10-12 dB in gaming and 5 oe 6 in light application, before this modding, the PSU works in 20-30dB in light apps and 40-50dB palying Battlefield 3
The fix costs 10 or 20 bucks,i get the Cooler master slim fans, more cheaaer then retunr that retunr to Athena the PSU and wait 2 or 3 weeks, because i live out of the US,and i need pay a double shipping (from my home to the reseller, and they send the PSU to the manufacturer)

Cons: I admit i little scared about modding the PSU,the last time i tried ,the PSU just make a short circuit and cost me 75 bucks to get a new one,for my lucky, the machine works fine and cold, with the stock fan the PSU fails after 10 or 20 minutes playing Max Payne 3 or Battlefield 3,now the PSU stopped shutting down :D

Other Thoughts: If you buy this PSU,buy 2 80mm fans to put in the opened PSU, and get a static bracelet to avoid pass energy to the capactiors and damage the PSU, finally the machine works in silent,my head appreciated that,im becoming very angry 4 that noise :D
Probably in 2 o 3 moyhs i buy the 7850 low profile to probe the maximum power of the PSU, i wish resist the load

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience. We will do everything in our power and work our factory to prevent this fan noise issue from happening again. Please feel free to contact us at service@athenapower.us or call us at (626) 810-5008 if you ever need assistance, concerns and issues with our products.

4 out of 5 eggsGood PSU

Pros: Fit perfect in Mini ITX cases like a HP Slimline
Reforced wires
Good quality
Real Power (more than 80 Plus Bronze requirements)

Cons: Little Noisy when you demand more power, but not su much to be angry

Other Thoughts: I buy the PSU to upgrade my graphics card, becvause last time i bought the Xcase 400 watts Flex PSU, and after put a 6670 low profile, the PSU just start to smell to burned wires and after a couple of weeks just burn and dead :D
I see the Athena Power PSU for the masximum power available in the market, 400 watss would be enogh to put in the future a 7850 low profile; for now i have the GT 640 with a AMD A8 3870K, and runs quiet in light programs, when you demand more energy playing a game, the PSU becomes little loud, not too much, but you can hear it if you play with low volume
Sometimes the PC turns off, i change the socket where i connect my hadware, i think is caused by a damage in the socket; when died the last PSU :D
I hope be that because i live out of the US and the shipping for a garranty retuns cost a lot of money
