An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.
Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)
That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out an impressive 850 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

nice psu
- Pros: good power, good reputation, clean, simple compact design. I honestly only have 1 other PSU company I would purchase and that is enermax, I have had phenominal luck so far w/ them and hopefully time will prove OCZ just as good. I know Enermax makes their own products and even though OCZ has theirs OEM made for them they do have high standards for the quality and product fit and finish. Many PSU companies people are used to buying are slipping in the quality department and OCZ does not overcharge for a brand name.
- Cons: I do believe it a coincidence but i installed this psu and later that evening went to log into a MMORPG and got a blue screen, ran memory test software overnight and found a bad stick in my machine pulling errors occasionally, pulled that stick and am currently making sure the mo/bo isnt the problem by running the tests again.
- Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a Noisetaker 600 watt just in case i need more juice for o/c'ing or expansion in the future. I have done a ton of research into PSU's before my purchase, my choices wee either the enermax 850 galaxy or this. If you check reviews online they give both PSU's great reviews and even though you see a few problems ppl report here dont mind them in electronics anything can happen, even twice. The enermax is over $120 more ATM and OCZ has the same warranty so i chose the OCZ because i have enough cash tied up into the rest of my machine. This PSU is clean looking, stable, quiet, and has the simple touches that most companies dont put into their marketed products. OCZ even pays for the UL licensing on their PSU's which almost no other american marketed PSU company does. Save some dough and buy this PSU, if you dont want to take my word for it go ahead and research for yourself and you'll see that alot of the traditional PSU Co.'s you see are only charging more for a name.
Great PSU
- Pros: Quad 12v rails, quiet, looks cool, connector runs plenty long enough, nice quality.
- Cons: A bit pricey but its actually a bit cheaper than other PSU's in its same class. And you get what you pay for.
- Other Thoughts: I originally ordered an OCZ 700w psu but it arrived DOA. When my RMA arrived an Newegg they were sold out of 700w's so I had to pick something else. I considered PCP&C but those were also out of stock. I wanted a 4 12v rail PSU so I decided to give this one a try. To my satisfaction this 850w PSU worked fine and was the same dimensions as the 700w psu which fit so well in my Thermaltake Armor case. Armor's are big and have lots of room but they don't have all that much room for a big psu. This one fit in perfectly. Its also nice and quiet. This psu has more power than I'll be needing anytime soon but I guess I'm all set for future things down the road.

HORRIBLE PSU
- Pros: If you plan on using your computer just to browse the internet, then buy this PSU!
- Cons: If I put both my CPU and GPU under 80-100% load, the PSU fails and resets. 100% CPU usage alone does not crash it, neither does 100% GPU usage.
- Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY THIS if you plan on using any distributed computing software, such as folding@home or seti@home. I can either fold on my CPU, or fold on my GPU. If I fold on both at the same time, the PSU resets.
ALSO, labor warranty is only 30 days, so I'll be paying both shipping and labor. Looks like I'm going to pick up a Corsair PSU.

Ver Good PS - Mostly
- Pros: Very stable power supply for the money. Other reviews cover most of the pros quite well.
- Cons: OCZ is a bit slow with RMA process. Hopefully this one will last longer than the one I replaced. (600w OCZ GameXtream)
- Other Thoughts: I ordered this 850w OCZ GameXtream supply to replace a 600w GameXtream I had to RMA under warranty after just a little over 2 years of use. RMA process with OCZ is a bit of a pain, and took 3 days to get the RMA number. I shipped ground, and it came back ground, so I would have been without a PS for two weeks if I hadn't just bought a new one.
DOA
- Pros: ...
- Cons: It caused my computer to "blink" on and off. About 1 second on and 3-5 seconds off, repeating. RMA shipping cost nearly $14 including a box from the UPS store.
- Other Thoughts: I replaced it temporarily with an Antec Earthwatts 750w power supply. My computer freezes up every morning at windows login, and it has to reset before I can login. Not sure if any damage was caused by the OCZ power supply or if it is some unrelated glitch.
