5 out of 5 eggsOCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply

This review is from: FirePower ModXStream Pro 500W 80Plus Semi-Modular High Performance Power Supply 600MXSP

Pros: affordable, reliable, and modular. consistent voltages no drops or spikes. sleeved cables. nice bag to keep extra cables in so you dont loose them. works great

Cons: some of the non-modular cables are to short, like the cpu power cable(4) when mounting PSU on the bottom. luckily mine reaches over the top of my motherboard but will need to get myself a ext cable when i install a vga card. Not a big deal extension cables are less than $8.

Other Thoughts: I bought this model, except it is a 600W, in Oct 2010 in a PC bundle kit. Its been working fine so far. Though in 2013 i did take it apart and thoroughly cleaned it out. Which Im sure will give it longer life.
my previous psu was from 1999 it still works to date because of simple maintenance. gotta keep them clean & cool !!

I would recommend this.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend it for sure. Has been a great PSU for a long time going now.

4 out of 5 eggsnice overall

This review is from: FirePower ModXStream Pro 500W 80Plus Semi-Modular High Performance Power Supply 600MXSP

Pros: nice p/s; love the modular design as it really cleans up cable clutter; seems well made; has a nice weight to it; quiet

Cons: the split 12 v bus may not be the best design; had to play around with power distribution to get a GTX 650 running

1 out of 5 eggsRebate Ripoff

This review is from: FirePower ModXStream Pro 500W 80Plus Semi-Modular High Performance Power Supply 600MXSP

Pros: None

Cons: Submitted $30 rebate documentation to OCZ on 9.5 2013.

Was requested to resubmit copies by OCZ customer service representative on 10.2.2013, because OCZ claims they did not receive the originals.

After OCZ received the copies, I was eMailed the following:

Signed Rebate Form is missing
- Original UPC Barcode Label (#842024009108) (Not the shipping label barcode) is missing
- Barcode label is missing
- Postmark date is outside offer's time limit

Of cause the barcode/etc is missing, it was send with the original documentation on 9.5.2013

Other Thoughts: Beware of OCZ rebates

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggs3 Years and Counting

This review is from: FirePower ModXStream Pro 500W 80Plus Semi-Modular High Performance Power Supply 600MXSP

Pros: Have been running this PSU for over 3 years now without any issues.

Semi-Modular design allows for leaving out any un-needed cables. It also comes with a nice bag for the extra cables.

Reliably has been providing power to my GTX 550 TI and the rest of my system (CoreDue 2.93Ghz, mATX Intel Mobo, Patriot RAM 4GB, Optical drive).

Cons: It does not have many Molex plugs or PCI-E 6-2 or 8 Pin plugs.

When a friend sold me a GTX 670 which requires x2 8pins, I had to use the double molex to 8pin adapters. That left me with no extra molex plugs to power my optical drive.

For this I only took off one egg as I should have looked into it before buying the card. Also I was able to find a cheap optical drive that used SATA.

Other Thoughts: Great for small systems and has been reliable for me for the past 3 years.

4 out of 5 eggsQuiet and modular

This review is from: FirePower ModXStream Pro 500W 80Plus Semi-Modular High Performance Power Supply 600MXSP

Pros: This is definately one quiet power supply, hardly a whisper can be heard from it. Can't yet say it doesn't do what it's supposed to, so basically no power issues with it at the start. Modular cable design prevents a lot of clutter of cords inside the case for better air circulation.

Cons: It's a bit of a tight fit compared to my older power supply, so double check your measurements. The top-of-case mounting design is for just that, mounting at the top of a case, and because of that cords 'just' reach everything it needs in such a setup. NOT for anyone who needs more than a good 1 foot of cable to connect it to the motherboard.

Only a minor grip I also noticed is that the product no longer retails with the carry pouch to hold the extra cables that you will not be using. Personally I could care less as I would just keep it all in the origional box anyways.

Other Thoughts: The sleved cables are quite stiff, which I found as a doulbe edged sword. They hold in whatever position or place you put them in, and in the end I only used 1 pull tie for the entire cable management. On the other hand, the stiffness makes them a bit hard to move and positio initially. So anyone ready can take that in whichever they prefer.

2 out of 5 eggsBelow average

This review is from: FirePower ModXStream Pro 500W 80Plus Semi-Modular High Performance Power Supply 600MXSP

Pros: Seemed quiet, worked as expected.

Cons: after just a little over a year of ownership, it stopped working. No power surges or anything that should have caused an issue. For $50 I guess being a middle ground power supply can't expect much more. Now I'm shopping for a new one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

Please contact our Tech Support so we can assist with your issue. We can determine if the PSU does have a problem or if the problem is related to something else in your system. If the PSU has an issue we will make a warranty determination and provide a replacement in accordance with the warranty terms if necessary. Please contact us using the link below.

1 out of 5 eggsFaulty upon arrival

This review is from: FirePower ModXStream Pro 500W 80Plus Semi-Modular High Performance Power Supply 600MXSP

Pros: none so far

Cons: 1) fried my motherboard
2) no mail in rebate was sent

Other Thoughts: I don't know if it was faulty or what, this was my 3rd build and i had to replace my old psu because it didn't come with a 6 pin connector for my new graphics card.
My build consisted of an Abit IP35 Pro, Q6600, 6gb corsair xms2, and my 2 new components which were the hd 7790 and OCZ 500W. Connected everything, plugged in my power cord and turned it on, got nothing.
Put my old psu and gpu in, still got nothing. I don't know if it's just my motherboard or if it took everything with it. I'm just glad i didn't get my rebate. Now i can return this item which was clearly never tested.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Trevor,

I strongly encourage you to contact us so we can offer steps to test the PSU. It is possible the cause is not the PSU if a 2nd PSU will also not turn on the system. You also mentioned a rebate - the form for the rebate will be found on the Newegg product page and is not included with the purchase. You just print that form then visit the web address and begin the rebate claim.

Please contact our Support Forum and describe the issue you have with this PSU. We will gladly assist and make a recommendation based on the results.

Kind Regards,
OCZ Support
