4 out of 5 eggsSolid for 2.3 years under 24/7 use

Pros: Modular
Big Quiet Fan
600 watts

Cons: Could have a few more cords and plugs for extra hardware

Other Thoughts: I bought one of these to run on a small desktop / game server. It was running a Super Micro board with Dual Intel Xeon cpus and a small handful of hard drives.

It had run for 2.3 years almost solid 24/7 ( save for a few reboots and power outages. Today however, I powered down my machine and did a little maintenance and swapped out a drive. Upon trying to power the machine up the PSU greeted me with flash, bang and a little bit of party smoke.

I am currently already writing to their tech support, if all goes well I will come back and give this supply a fresh review.

Overall I am ok with the time I got out of it, it's just inconvenient that it failed on a Sunday and I am without my game server until at least tomorrow. Though I guess it's not so bad since it did fail within warranty, hopefully it's replacement will treat me better.

Random side note: I am an electronics technician and small network admin by trade. I have worked on 100's of computers and other types of machines and the one thing I will state is that anything can and will fail. I have went through countless components in machines. The only thing I have really concluded is that you do get what you pay for. This was a decent mid-range PSU and unlike alot of CHEAP psu's I have run into, this one did not ruin my hardware when it failed, it only failed itself. This review is bitter sweet, I am out of a PSU for a few days, but at least I am sure I will get it replaced.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear NightWolfx03,

Thank you for your thoughtful review. OCZ will definitely replace the PSU in accordance with warranty terms. If you have any issues obtaining a RMA or questions regarding the process don't hesitate to contact our Support Forum or call us at 1.800.459.1816 Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm PST.

On behalf of OCZ, I apologize for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,
OCZ Support

2 out of 5 eggsCould have been better

Pros: Cheap, 80 plus and semi modular

Cons: Cables are way to short. You have to buy cable extensions. My case is not even considered the tallest. It's only a midtower.

Other Thoughts: I kinda regret buying this psu. Should had paid extra and went the Corsair TX

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

I am sorry to read you regret purchasing this PSU. OCZ does provide full diagrams that detail the length of each cable so you can determine if it will accommodate your particular chassis. Different PSU models do carry different cable lengths. I will post a link below so you can explore the various diagrams for future reference.

Thank you for your purchase. If we can be of any assistance don't hesitate to contact our Support Forum.

Sincerely,
OCZ Suppor

1 out of 5 eggsincredibly loud after 2.5 years of service

Pros: it looks nice
love that it is modular

Cons: After 2.5 years of service when idle or on load the unit makes an extremely loud noise.

Other Thoughts: I contacted their RMA center and this is the response I got:

"Try running GPUTool on your system. If the noise intensifies or seems to follow the spinning rings, you may have coil whine.

Try enabling VSYNC or double/triple buffering in the games and/or in your video card's management software. This can reduce the noise and sometimes eliminate it completely."

Anyways, I would not purchase OCZ products again. This response is from a "TECH." How does this even solve my inherent problem? This sounds like more of a patch than real help. Maybe they are too cheap to give me their "3 year warranty PowerSwap," so instead they tell their customers how to patch their problems until their warranty ends.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anonymous,

I believe the tech was trying to determine the cause or reproduce the noise, not necessarily provide a permanent workaround. Regardless, I would like to investigate this further. Please send an email to me via rcampbell at ocztechnology dot com and include the following information:

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

4 out of 5 eggsWorked Perfectly For 25 Months

Pros: Large Fan, but still Quiet. Quick disconnects at unit are fantastic. Cables used webbing that looks nice and probably aids airflow. Plenty of hookups for three hard drives, multiple fans and video card. As a note, my computer runs 24/7 all year round.

Cons: As stated in the Title, it lasted just over two years. But to the unit's credit, it did run every day and night of those two years, so it worked well for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsPower, reliable, great customer svce

Pros: 600W was perfect for what I needed as an upgrade. Quality of Fit, finish and sound level is excellent. Modular internal power cables allowed the right selection of cable to connect my DVD, SATA hard drive and when it came time, the PCIe 6 pin video card connection for a powered video card.

Cons: Need a place to store all those extra cables for possible future additions. Nice bag though.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a 350W PS that was using 65W 2-core AMD CPU and AMD 4650 video card. Instantly cleared up inconsistent issue of GTA IV game crashing. Allowed me to upgrade to 4-core AMD Phenom processor and powered 7770 video card when it came time.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it does

Pros: Works great, havent had any problems, running i5, and xfx double d 2gb, works like a charm.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: going to be buying some sinlge sleeved modular cble because the ones it comes with are very short and look bad, but they're cheap so not much of a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Unit

Pros: I ran this unit for three years, it powered a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, couple of sata hard drives, a Radeon HD 4850, 16GB ram. It survived a few power outages and was faithful at providing power when I wanted it. This modular PSU made wire management a breeze. Webbed cables provided a clean look while increasing airflow.

Cons: One of the cables was a bit too short for my taste, it was an essential cable like the 20+4pin. Not sure exactly which one.

4 out of 5 eggsJury is out

Pros: Price

Cons: Cables are very short and it is a little loud

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a back up machine and so far no problems. Price was right but remember you get what you pay for. The cables are the shortest I have seen on a PSU over 500 watts. The fan is a little loud but thats not a deal breaker. this is in a back up machine with an AMD Athlon II X3, HD6770, and 4gb ram. still going with no issues.
