1 out of 5 eggsHorrible RMA

Pros: Pros: Bought this for 50$ last Christmas and it was a steal. Fully modular PSU for that price seemed too good to be true. But when i first got it, it worked perfectly and was very quiet.

Cons: Cons: About 10 months later my PC randomly died on me. Opened it up and tried to see what the problem was, but about 30 min later it turned on again and worked fine so thought nothing of it. After another week PC dies again and doesn't turn back on. Check PSU only to see that some parts have melted inside.

I contact firepower for an RMA since its under 5 year warranty and find out that they make you pay to ship it back to them, which ends up costing 40$... only 10$ less than what I paid for a new one.

Now I see that it's listed at 100$+ and I'm so glad I didn't pay that price for it. For a 100$+ you would want it to last more than 10 months. Horrible warranty and would rather get a non modular or semi modular for cheaper.

1 out of 5 eggs2+ Weeks for One cable..

Pros: The engineers are knowledgeable.

Cons: If you lose one cable, you will need to buy the entire set from them. In my case, I waited a week to get the set I ordered and they shipped me the wrong one, and have never received a email with tracking or a receipt after talking to three different people that told me they would send it. I will never buy from OCZ or Firepower tech again.

5 out of 5 eggsThis might become a PC builders Unicorn or white whale PSU

Pros: Fully modular and very well made. Perfect for HTPC builds. This will be one of those under the radar items that will be sought after in a few years. Just ordered it and can't wait to use it.

Cons: OCZ went out of business.

Other Thoughts: The build of this thing is great. Grab it now before Newegg runs out and then it will be almost double in price on some auction site(s).

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost 2 years old now still going strong...

Pros: >Well made
>Sleeved cabling
>2x 6+2 pin PCIe power connectors

Cons: >A little long, blocks a case fan mount on the bottom of my case
>The SATA and 4-pin Molex connectors are too close together. I only have 3 drives, a HDD, SSD and ODD but need to use 2 SATA cables off the PSU because the 3rd connector on one of the cables doesn't reach my ODD.
>Price has gone up, way up, since 2012.

Other Thoughts: In October 2014, I would have had this PSU for 2 years. I started off with an i7 3770k and a single GTX 660. I then upgraded to 2x 660s in SLI and the 550 watt PSU was enough to run them without any issues. Recently, I replaced them with a single HD 7950 boost and it too runs that GPU very well. Higher end cards like the 7950/7970 and GTX 670/680 and above need 2x 6+2 pin connectors so you can only really use one high end GPU with this PSU. You would probably need more than 550 watts and a 45 amp +12v rail anyway so that isn't much of a con. Like I said, I bought this PSU nearly 2 years ago and the price has nearly doubled. I am looking at my invoice from 2012 and I paid $59.99 for it and I'm pretty sure there was a rebate as well. Now, they want $107. If it was the same price now, I wouldn't even consider it. I would definitely go for something like an 80+ gold Seasonic if I was going to spend that much. Like the SSR-550RM which is only $90 at the moment.

3 out of 5 eggs9 months.

Pros: Modular, looks nice, quiet.

Cons: Ran 9 months then failed. Only hooked to a low power Backup file server MB plus 6 drives. Took one 3TB drive down with it on failure. Was hooked to APC Smart-UPS rack so line power surge was not an issue.

Other Thoughts: Stuff happpens with all power supplies. Now we see what customer service is like. Prior experiences with this company have been good.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat customer service

Pros: nice modular PSU; sleeved cables. Great customer service: after a year and expanding my HDs in my build, I ran out of SATA power cables and couldn't make some of the empty SATA power reach my HD in my case. So I wrote to OCZ support on their web site and they are sending me a free SATA power cable. Otherwise I would've had to use a SATA Y splitter or a molex to SATA convertion. Haven't gotten the cable yet but I'm loving their service. Way to stand by your product. BTW: the 550 only has 2 SATA cables each supporting 3 SATA drives.

Cons: with my case (ANTEC P280) and bottom power mount, I needed a Linkworld 33cm ATX power supply 24 pin to 24 pin extension/adapter Cable Model 24-24 to reach the MOBO and still have great cable management. But this is case specific. The Antec P280 is a nice case; elegant and large.
