3 out of 5 eggsScammed :(

Pros: Great power supply. Ultra-reliable, at first, and extremely high quality look -- seems well built, but I'll address that later...

Cons: At first I was having issues where my pc would freeze and need a reboot, and it sounded like the power supply was trying to get it going again, but it appeared to be fine, and acted as though the motherboard or processor, or ram, was to blame since it often happened after I tested some of the limits of bios settings to see which was optimal. Turns out it was likely flawed to begin with, and it wasn't easy to tell. When it finally died, it still sounded like it was fine, since it was trying to turn the PC on, and had power, it just kept perpetually almost turning on (the power light flickered until i fliped the switch on the PSU.) After removing every component and extensive troubleshooting, I finally tried a new PSU which made the PC work fine again.

Other Thoughts: This is unacceptable that it died within months of the 1 year (?) warranty, since it is allegedly one of the highest quality power supplies, highly recommended, and seemingly built to last. I was told to buy this because it had been heralded as a great company, with the most reliable of power supplies. I wanted to opt for something cheaper, from a company I trusted, but everyone and every review said get the TOPPOWER! So I did, and now I'm out over 200 dollars, after this thing died. I have cheap power supplies that have out-lasted nearly all of my computers since 1996, and modern PSU's that have lasted anywhere from 5 to ten years. I live in a building that has modern wiring, and use a decent surge protector, and I feel scammed. I bought this expecting it to last. I was told it would, and I was told it's the best. It is not, and if their warranty won't cover something like design flaws if they die after the measly 1 year warranty is up, then I'm going to buy from OCZ from now on. At least they have 3 year to life time warranties, are cheaper, and their PSU's LAST! I was hoping to become a life-time customer of top-power after this PSU -- it seemed like it was the answer to all of my top-shelf quality issues with power supplies. I'm never paying that much for a glorified piece of junk like that again. The least they could have done is offerred me a replacement or discount on a new one given this thing died under normal load, but they'll probably ignore my review since it's "no longer in stock."

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on May 09 review

Pros: I just wanted to update my review and say how pleased I am with this powersupply. It has performed flawlessly since April 09.

I originally said it has long leads and this is true except for the 24 pin connector. I forgot I had to add a $4.00 extension to it, but then again my case is a Cooler Master HAF 932 and powersupply is on bottom of the case! I also ran all leads behind the motherboard. Any case smaller should have no problem with the length of the harnesses.

Cons: None worth mentioning

5 out of 5 eggsGreat unit!

Pros: 6 rails @ 20a each, completely modular (including the mobo 20+4 power cable), quiet, plenty of juice to run my SLI system: Asus M4N72-E motherboard, AMD PhenomII 955BE CPU @ 3.20ghz, 6gb DDR2-800, 3 SATA HDD, 2 DVDRW, 2 NVidia GTX260 c216 in SLI, 5 case fans 120mm, NZXT Beta EVO case.

Cons: The motherboard power cables are a tad short for my particular set up. They are probably long enough for the average system, but then again, you're not going to drop a 900w unit in an average system! I was unable to route the 4pin CPU power cable behind the motherboard due to it being too short. The 20+4 pin main mobo power cable was just barely long enough to route behind the motherboard, but the stiffness made connecting it to the motherboard quite difficult. So, the cables are fairly stiff, especially near the connectors. This made connecting the the power to my 3 SATA hard drives a bit tricky because of space constraints between the drives and the side panel. The stiffness prevented bending the cables as needed. I got the job done, but not without some swearing! If I could take off a half egg for stiff cables, I would, but it's not enough to take off a whole egg.

Other Thoughts: There's a lot of talk about how a large single 12v rail is somehow "better" than multiple rails. Personally, I'd rather have multiple rails, it seems to me that it makes more sense in a higher end system to have each video card on its own rail, the mobo/CPU on its own rail, the drives on their own rail, etc. I think this is 'safer' than having everything pulling juice off of a single rail: if one device goes haywire and starts pulling too much current, it could (in theory) fry all the components attached to the single rail; in a multi-railed system, this wouldn't happen.
BTW- I did not purchase this from Newegg, I got it from a retailer. I couldn't be happier with this unit. 5 eggs (or 4.5 eggs; minus a half egg due to stiff cables)

1 out of 5 eggsBe Carefull

Pros: All modular and looks cool.

Cons: Be carefull with this PSU. I got one from a local vendor because I needed a PSU right away. It was DOA the moment I powered it up. All I heard was a click. It fried a Gigabyte X58 UD4P and then an old Abit P35 Pro when I was trying to isolate the problem. Lesson learned.

Other Thoughts: I read a good detailed review on this PSU and was surprised when this happened. I know this is probably rare, but I give a PSU one shot to get it right and if it ends up costing me money I can't bring myself to give it another chance.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Customer Service

Pros: None.

Cons: This PSU destroyed my Blackbird CD ROM drive. Molex cable catches fire and melted my cd rom pcb. Topower promised to give me a brand new replacement but they never did, also replacement cable was incorrect.

5 out of 5 eggsA good power supply

Pros: Very quiet, runs cool, modular, very long leads and has 24 pin extension lead. It has worked flawlessly from day one on a new build. All leads are color coded to match power, sata, pci-e.

This carried a $200 MSPR, but was on sell for $167 and came with a $50 rebate thru another source. So 900 watts for $117 is nice. At first I was sceptical of quality versus pricing so low, but it has turned out to be a very good power supply. Benchmark articles on the supply have all rated it very good.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsNo 3-pin Mobo Plug, Otherwise Good

Pros: Quiet. Excellent labeling on the psu for where to plug in cables. All cables labeled. Long cables for easy cable management with 4 plugs per cable.

Cons: No 3-pin mobo wire for fan speed monitoring. Even the cheapest psu's I've owned have had a 3-pin wire, weird.

5 out of 5 eggsi7 build

Pros: the build:

Antec twelve hundred; Topower Powerbird 900W; Asus P6T vanilla; i7 batch3841Axxx; Stock cooler; Cosair Dominator 6GB (3 x 2GB) 1600; 2 x Seagate HD 250G 16M SATA2 Raid1; eVGA GTX285; Sony DRU865S; LG GGC-H20L; X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty; OS XP 64 bit

Newegg's gracious support of their customers.

Well built, quiet and runs cool.

Cons: None whats so ever

Other Thoughts: the original build included the Tagan ABS BZ800.
With the ABS PSU I had a problem with the gpu shutting down when playing games, ie COD5, 007 Quantum Solace, ect. Black screen at the start of games and the dual LED indicators turning green to red. Dealt with ASUS & eVGA tech support and posted in every forum. It was a consensus that the gpu was bad which was replaced by Newegg. Problem remained and Newegg issued RMA for for the mobo. Before sending in decided to test with a different PSU being this model. Bingo. Hardocp did a review on both the ABS BZ800 & Pwrbird 900 that they were issued. Don't know with certainty if there was a bad rail or not on the ABS, 26A on both the +3.3V and 5V rails. Bought this Powerbird locally equal to the sub $200 price that was here and didn't wait for s/h, totally modular and 30A on those same rails mentioned and the PC smokes... The ABS PSU cost me more than a months down time, 5 eggs to Newegg only and this supply.

1 out of 5 eggskilled my mobo

Pros: lots of power. too much apparently.

thanks to this PSU, i got a new system (it _was_ time to upgrade i suppose). no, newegg didn't replace my components - and i didn't expect them to - but i did buy a system as a result of the loss. probably not really a "pro" but ya gots ta find the positive in things like this.

Cons: killed my asus x48 mobo - plugged it in and got that delightful fried plastic smell. system wouldn't reboot after that (act surprised).

also killed off 3 1TB drives.

Other Thoughts: can i give this PSU a -1 egg? apparently not. dang.

RMAed it and newegg gave me a full refund. took less than a week to get. this bad PSU was in no way newegg's fault (probably more mine because i bought cheap instead of going with a known solid PSU company like antec) and they remedied the issue.

i'm normally very loyal to my parts suppliers, and newegg - thanks to speedy RMA - has only reinforced my loyalty. double bonus points to kyra (or was it kyla?) who helped me with the RMA (couldn't get it to go thru via the normal web processing)
