5 out of 5 eggsGreat HD Housings !

Pros: Lots of room for up to 2TB Drives. Excellent heat dissipation and very reliable. Makes good use out of spare hard drives !

Cons: Nothing yet ! Units have worked very well for over 2 years .

Other Thoughts: Have replaced some other flimsy housings with these units, so far, so good ! (Over 2 years !)

2 out of 5 eggsMay have slowly killed my HDD

Pros: Physically solid, some buttons cheap when disassembled.

Cons: Runs HDD very hot, after a couple months on winxp I got many delayed write failures and noticed the case was very warm. I removed the cover and pointed a desk fan at it and it worked fine from then on. Very ghetto looking. After moving the HDD into a new computer I am getting SMART errors saying the drive is failing. I've ever had issues with Seagate drives in the past. I think the excessive heat on the drive slowly killed it.

Other Thoughts: I don't think I'll buy enclosures in the future, just normal externals.

1 out of 5 eggsBad enclosure(s)

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Both enclosures failed after I've owned them for slightly more than a year. I have much older enclosures from other makers that are still working perfectly.

Other Thoughts: If you're thinking of buying one of these, think again.

5 out of 5 eggs3 years strong

Pros: They're not ugly, stackable design, aluminum, sturdy, plenty of I/O options... and, they're still selling...

Cons: The power cables almost seem like they'll slip out at some point but they never do. Nothing to lose an egg over. oh, they were cheaper 3 years ago...

Other Thoughts: I have had 2 of these 3.5" enclosures for 3 years now (as well as one of the 2.5" firewire enclosures just like it) and they have all been going strong. I've messed with brands like nexstar and imicro and ended up throwing both of those enclosures away after picking up these. Quality stuff.

1 out of 5 eggsproblem already

Pros: Solid construction. Good heat sink.

Cons: Proprietary power jack and plug.
Found this out when the power supply got misplaced and I could not find another one to replace it. My mistake buying this one.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks good

Pros: Solid construction inside and out, seems to dissapate heat effectively.

Cons: The power plug is a mere 4pin DIN, which has really thin pins and I sketch a lot about snapping one.

Other Thoughts: Have a 750 caviar black in it, no issues and done nothing but edit DVCPRO50 and AVCHD footage at my school.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little unit

Pros: Solid construction, substantial, dissipates heat well, relatively easy installation at a very nice price. I have three of these things, and I've never had a problem with them. Whenever I need a new external drive I get one of these babies. They're great! I use the Firewire (IEEE1394) connector, and they always perform well.

Cons: The indicator light is a little bright. It's not worth deducting an egg, but if you're sitting in an otherwise dark room with one of these on, you could almost read a book by the light of the indicator light.

2 out of 5 eggsNot reliable at all

Pros: Great industrial design, triple interface, decent price. As others have mentioned, the silicone hard drive mounts are a nice feature too.

Cons: I have two of these enclosures, one with a Western Digital drive and the other with a Samsung, and after using them for a few months the drives would never complete a backup (using Time Machine). They both randomly eject or completely disappear as far as the computer was concerned. Even after exchanging one of the enclosures I have still had the same problems.

Other Thoughts: We use a few of these at the Mac repair shop where I work to transfer data off hard drives from dead computers, and (at least as far as I'm aware) they haven't given us any trouble. On the other hand, at least one of our customers has come in with this enclosure describing similar problems. I believe he was using it with Time Machine too. I don't know if the issues are related to Time Machine specifically, or maybe leaving the drive on 24/7 is the cause of the problems. Either way, it would probably be best to avoid this product.

1 out of 5 eggsNo is Good... Is Bad

Pros: Works on some of my SATA drives that I have

Cons: When using eSATA the unit locks up. Also this case LOVES to uninitialize my HDD so it is not usable. Had to buy data recovery program to get my data back. Will return ASAP!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Universal interface with USB, Firewire and eSATA. Fast. Rubber suspension mount makes this case extraordinarily quiet.

Cons: Proprietary DIN power plug instead of newer mini plug.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent SATA case. I own three Macally external cases and this one is the best of three. I also own the newer mini Mac Pro looking case (GS350SUA) which is much louder than this one due to the lack of suspension mount. There is no problem with internal SATA and power connector as some other people complained. It's just a well made case.
