3 out of 5 eggsGood enclosure, BUT...

Pros: It looks nice from afar and works well.

eSata and USB worked flawlessly for me.

Some people think it feels cheap but I don't consider plastic to be synonymous with cheap feeling, in that aspect it feels like a very well built plastic enclosure.

No fan = silent enclosure.

Recommended use:

infrequent small backups (with a regular 7200rpm drive)
infrequent incremental backups (with a regular 7200rpm drive)

Pretty much anything you want with a low profile and/or low rpm disk.

Cheap external SSD solution.

Cons: Very tricky because the enclosure feels cool to the touch all the time (since the plastic doesn't conduct any heat and there's no fan blowing warm air out), but it runs drives REALLY hot.

Don't even think about putting a 7200rpm or non-green drive into this unit, you'll regret it. Your drive will be hot to the touch after spending some time thrashing or being active in this enclosure. There's no fan, so you expect that a drive would get warm but they get very hot.

You may be stuck using green or low rpm drives which don't produce as much heat. It's that or taking a chance and possibly ruining anything faster.

The button may be problematic for some. It's a semi-soft power button so if power to the enclosure is killed, the drive will not come back on when power returns. I don't have an issue as I have several UPSs.

Installation can be tricky. Took me a while to figure out removing a single screw and dealing with taking it apart but once you do it you don't forget.

Other Thoughts: I suspect this enclosure could easily ruin a drive due to overheating. I had no idea the drive was running so hot until I opened up the unit to mess around with several different drives. I copied around 50GB initially, turned the unit off and attempted to switch the drive for another and I actually couldn't pick up the drive out of the unit, that's how hot it was. Had to wait a minute or 2. The drive in it's entirety is always cool to the touch though, due to it being mostly plastic. Only the drive holster is metal.

Despite or in spite of the negatives, it's a pretty good enclosure. Solid, works well and hasn't given me any problem. I wouldn't recommend it to finicky people. If you're smart and know what you're doing, you shouldn't have a problem.

4 out of 5 eggsFrom 01/17/2011 to 06/27/2012

Pros: Paid $19.99 for the unit at the time of purchase. Very simple to use. Feels solid once everything is put together.

Cons: You get what you pay for...and the plastic materials does make this unit feel really cheap and flimsy. As of 06/27/2012 my eSATA port stopped working (yes I changed the cable) the USB is working fine. The hard drive did get warm, but I knew I was buying a unit without a fan.

Other Thoughts: I used this unit to increase the DVR storage capacity of my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD. I replaced the unit with a Rosewill RX-358 V2 BLK (Black) 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA Ext. Enclosure w/Int.80mm fan.... I know: I went from cheap to cheap lol.

2 out of 5 eggsEasy Bake Oven for your HDD

Pros: It works most of the time using eSATA.

Cons: This thing will BAKE YOUR DRIVE!! I quit using it because my HDD was getting way too hot just setting there not being used. eSATA cable not included (should get a 6 footer)

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Design design.

Cons: Broke with light use. Like someone mentioned, plastic so not a good heat conductor. Will break after minimal use. They shouldn't be selling these thing. Recycle the material for better products.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: None

Cons: I bought this over a year ago and never got it to work with any drive. It was pretty cheap so I left it sitting on the shelf for a while, then when I got a new laptop decided I would give it another try and it still does not work. I recommend buying something else.

Other Thoughts: Buy another enclosure.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't even consider these

Pros: Horizontal placement keeps your drives from falling over.

Cons: Ships with Adware and doesn't work out of the box. I bought 4 of these, mostly for 3 eSata option. Power button lights up, but drives never spin up. Ok, so maybe it needs some software to actually run. Bad idea - the installation program is for a program written in 2007 and my AV immediately detects their software as containing Adware.Look2Me virus. Are you kidding? Not only does the actual hardware not even work, but they are trying to install a virus on my machine!

Other Thoughts: This should be pulled from the inventory immediately. Newegg's going to take some heat from customers if they cannot trust the products being sold.

3 out of 5 eggsmeh

Pros: Looks ok cool, worked just fine out of the box.

Cons: Worked the several times I actually used it, now it doesn't work for no apparent reason. The cover is really goofy to put back on.

Other Thoughts: get something else.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Plastic Junk

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: There are no cooling properties to this enclosure whatsoever. It's 99% plastic, which does not conduct heat for cooling purposes, like aluminum. It overheated a Seagate hard drive I was using for a major data transfer, and corrupted the data, causing many, many headaches. It worked a bit better with a WD HD, but I would avoid this unit at all costs.

Other Thoughts: See my "Cons"

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this junk

Pros: Cheap

Cons: One enclosure arrived not working, and within one week of use, the second enclosure I purchased also stopped working. If you want a paperweight, this is a great deal. If you want a working hard drive enclosure, BUY SOMETHING ELSE!

Other Thoughts: Do NOT buy these enclosures. They are cheap, plastic, and do not work.

2 out of 5 eggsbroken

Pros: Will work maybe for a year

Cons: This thing gave up on me for maybe 1 year

Other Thoughts: So if you are looking for a year of external enclosure use this.
Although I'm using a 1TB samsung HD, its my 3rd external enclosure with this HD, it could be the HD idk.
