4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Audio Production

Pros: Fire-wire connection and daisy chaining. I have 2 of these each with 1 TB Western Digital 7200rpm drives and daisy chain them through Fire-wire to run my Pro Tools audio for my production sessions. Fast, efficient and tons of storage only using 1 connection on the MacBook.
Looks great next to my MacBook Pro. All the extra cables it comes with helps to justifies the price.

Cons: The old school method of having to take the enclosure apart to get the drives in was a hassle, and cannot hot swap drives. This should come with a 4 rubber feet option if you want to set down flat rather than standing up. had to buy some replacement MacBoook feet to have them lay sideways.

Other Thoughts: would give 1 more egg if this came with rubber feet and a hot swap install method. Great enclosure for sata II and sata III drives. Recommend using at least 7200rpm through fire-wire or eSata cables for best performance.

4 out of 5 eggsNo Complaints

Pros: Has worked with no issue via usb and firewire. Includes purchase price value in cables. Looks pretty.

Cons: Nothing much.

Other Thoughts: Have had issues connecting by eSATA, but I think that is an issue with the PC. Not a fan of the screw-on feet or the saddle-style stand. However, it's pretty stable without either, so I just skip both.

1 out of 5 eggsEat drives & ports malfuntion

Pros: Been using MacAlly drive enclosures for years. Especially the 2.5" enclosures with FireWire.

Cons: Have purchased 4 of these enclosures in the last year. I had 3 drive failures and discarded 2 of the enclosures - ports not functioning.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to try another manufacturer - Bytecc.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Multiple output formats, Easy to install SATA drives, Good overall design

Cons: Not a durable build

Other Thoughts: I've got quite a lot of use out of the Macally external enclosure. However, the eSATA output quit early on, and that makes it very difficult to work with. Fortunately, the USB output still works. I am attempting a warranty claim, but since the unit is over a year old, I'm not expecting much.

2 out of 5 eggsdead after 18 months of use

Pros: nice looking. Lots of connection options.

Cons: I bought two in Jan 2011. As of July 1012, one is still working and the other has a dead interface board after 18 months of use. Drive spins, but firewire and USB don't work.

2 out of 5 eggsProduct: bad. Newegg: good

Pros: nice color

Cons: way overpriced for a unit that has no mechanism to quickly/simply swap a drive. You need to take it apart and screw in the disk. That's a design from 6 years ago.

Other Thoughts: Newegg handled the return process well. I wish return shipping wasn't so high, but still, overall, newegg Rocks!

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent

Pros: excellent enclosure. it uses an oxford bridge chip on the board and that's very good circuitry. it runs reliably and doesn't miss a beat. firewire 800 is excellent for video work.

Cons: the only real con is that the USB cable is pathetically short. it's not even as long as a printer USB cable. it's way too short. they need to seriously remedy that, even though that's an easy fix if you just go buy another cable, but you shouldn't HAVE to buy another cable.

1 out of 5 eggsFirewire port smoked

Pros: It arrived quickly and worked great after I installed my hd inside it.

Cons: I used it about 7 times and now the firewire ports are fried. Not sure why this occurred or what happened. I used the usb port one time and I noticed it smelled hot. After that the firewire ports were toast & failed to be recognized. USB still works but thats not why I paid $65 for an enclosure. Im not happy.
