Pros: Nice, easy to use, low power consumption. Easily concealable.

Cons: Can run HOT, a fan would be nice. Don't lose the software key or you cannot access the device.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: If I could afford to buy whatever I want, there's plenty of other options, but for the price I couldn't be happier. I bought this product from Newegg over 2 years ago and it's still going strong, with the same WD3000JB-00K hard drive. I use it with XP and Vista, using the Ximeta drivers, and it works like a champ. Zero problems.

Cons: The enclosure gets pretty warm. I think it's because the hdd never stops spinning. The front LED sometimes stops working, but I really don't care.

Other Thoughts: I've collected a lot of data (pictures, music, etc) that I'd hate to loose and I want to move to a RAID NAS. Because of my success with this product, I'm heavily considering buying a second and building a RAID 1 array. It's a very inexpensive solution and I haven't had any problems yet.

1 out of 5 eggsAPPARENTLY HIGH FAILURE RATE

Pros: No technical problems while operating.

Cons: 1. The logo display is too bright.

2. The case was too hot while running. Most likely need a powerful cooling fan.

3. Failed after 6 months of light use. The replacement (prompt) by Newegg does not have any further replacement coverage.

4. I notice that other customers have similar problems.

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend to anyone until they fix the overheating and failure problems.

2 out of 5 eggsDead after a year

Pros: It worked great while under warranty.
All HDD data accounted for after the unit died.

Cons: Dead after a year and 3 months.

Other Thoughts: My friend has the same one for about 9 months now. We will wait and see how long will it work after warranty expires.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems to work great, a few flaws

Pros: cheap NAS solution using spare/old drives. Easy enough install. Tried it with USB first, then over the network.

Cons: Manual is not updated. Says NAS ID is at bottom of NAS device. Had to re-open internals to see if the ID was there. IT was in the first few pages of the manual, and not easy to see if you're bypassing a lot of "known" info (if you know it already).

The design of the mounting is bad. You have to put the power cable with the wires connecting to the connector from the "bottom" of the hard drive. this makes it harder to slide in because the wires are pushing at the buttom. Maybe they ran out of parts where the power connector has the wires connecting parallel? instead of from the bottom? didn't want to damage the wires by forcing it in, but it made it. so the wiring could've been done much better.

Other Thoughts: cheap.. works... used the drivers off ximeta.com. will still have to try the vista drivers but works fine on XP.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure!

Pros: Very straightforward design and easy to install drive. Fanless design does a decent job of getting rid of heat. I have this set up as a networked enclosure to my Airport Extreme. I didn't use USB because I already have a different array hooked up as USB to the Airport. However, it has worked great ever since I got it working properly.

Cons: Set-up as a networked enclosure was a pain to get my computer to recognize the drive. The included software was not very helpful in getting my Macbook to recognize the drive. The manual said that no drivers or software were needed and that was not the case. I had to do some digging and research and find that Ximeta has a NDAS utility for Mac OS X that worked flawlessly once that was installed.

Other Thoughts: Overall, great enclosure, bad instructions and software. Use the Ximeta NDAS utility if you own a Mac! It is the best way to go!!

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great!

Pros: Works great as a USB case or on the network. I've got my 2 in a raid1 configuration and they work wonderfully.

Cons: Manual that come with them are not updated, so the screens they show are somewhat different than what I saw.

Other Thoughts: Don't install the drivers that come with the enclosure. Go to http://www.ximeta.com/web/support/download/download.php and get the latest driver for your OS. A lot of problems have been fixed since the release of the drivers that come with the enclosure.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review, Still a good lil' unit

Pros: Have 5 of these lil' beasties now (4 IDE, 1 SATA) and still runnin' strong. Storage at just under 3 TB. 5 Comps accessing them with various OS on the comps. (XP Home, XP Pro and Mac 10X) all seem to work nicely with them. Still highly recomend them for home storage with multiple workstations / Media Centers.

Cons: 5 running together can get quite toasty, time to make a cooling rack for them. Also, the transfer speed on a 10 /100 speed is..Well..slow when moving large gig amounts or trying to defrag (took 3 days to defrag the 750 gig drive)
These really need the 10/100/1000 speed connection.

Other Thoughts: All in all, these are the best entertainment value per gig/$ I have found to keep the kids and the misses happy. (In the techno geek world)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has a nice transfer speed. Configuration was fairly easy.

Cons: The XP machine I connected it to misread the size of the hard drive, so I had to reformat it on a vista machine. Need to fix the XP because it has both drives on it. Need to continue debugging.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for the price.

Pros: Price. Works like its supposed to. Shows up on both my computers as another local drive, rather than a network one. Once I got the correct driver installed install was 5 minutes long. Its always on so it I can fire up either computer for access to my files.

Cons: Driver included with it is worthless. Don't use it, go to their web site and download the driver. Directions are worthless. They have incorrect steps on troubleshooting. Web site is worthless, its only 2 pages deep. Then you get the famous "web page not found" message. They have no phone number to call, and the only way I found the web site was on the adobe manual included in the cd, not the printed one.

Other Thoughts: The product is decent (so far). I gave it 3 eggs because of the lack of support. If I ever have a problem, I hope its still covered by newegg, because I doubt this company even has a support center.
