2 out of 5 eggsPower Problem

Pros: Aluminum case for heat dissipation. Inexpensive, yet comes with a slip cover. The USB data cord and USB power cord are quite long, allowing flexibility of placement of the unit in relation to the PC. Easy installation of drive, and the glowing light on the end is pleasant.

Cons: It is cheaply built. Power is a major issue. Even when I connected the unit using both cords (data and power) to USB ports, I still did not get enough power to run the drive reliably.

Other Thoughts: The lack of power for reliable operation caused the drive to develop corrupted file/folder structures and I lost data on several occasions. I have since retired this unit, in favor of another model of enclosure, which works much better. So I know it was not the drive, but the enclosure that caused the problems.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works perfectly in both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). I didn't have to install anything, I just connected the USB cable and it was detected.

Cons: Feels a bit cheap/flimsy

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price..

Pros: Works as expected, hasn't failed, excellent price. Highly recommended for turning an old laptop hard drive into a USB mass storage device.

Cons: I wouldn't mind if it came with an AC adapter for power, along with the USB power. Other than that, none.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case.

Pros: Looks are great, smooth, glossy black finish is nice. Using only USB power is excellent for a small drive as I use it only for transporting files, its highly mobile. Comes with a case. These OKGEAR cases are definitly the best looking i've seen.

Cons: none

3 out of 5 eggsNeeds extra power

Pros: Nice case, and very easy to swap out hard drives.

Cons: Needs the extra USB power cord on every machine I've used it one.

Other Thoughts: I really want to like this case - it is very easy to swap out drives, and the case haas a nice finish. However, it needs 2 USB plus on every system. My other case almost never needs the second USB power plug, while this one needs it every time, even on machines that give out full power. This is obviously a flaw to this case.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent enclosure

Pros: Easy instalation. Sturdy case. Cheap.

Cons: Must use the enclosed power cable to use drive.

Other Thoughts: Hard drive would not spin up without having power supply hooked up. Would prefer to be able to use external case without a power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsGood, Does what I need it for

Pros: Worked without a hitch. It may not have a real AC adapter(just a second USB cable), and it adds to clutter, but for my use(I migrated my files to a new Hard Drive, I probably won't use it again) it's fine, I wouldn't give it a score of 1/5 for that. It looks pretty(just put it upside-down to get rid of the 2.5" HDD EXTERNAL BOX label). The blue status indicator looks really cool in the dark. Fast data rates. Plug N' Play is also nice(Vista doesn't like driver CD's, for some reason)

Cons: The large 2.5" HDD EXTERNAL BOX lettering on the top of it's sleek black case really wasn't necessary. (I might just be lucky, because Newegg advertises it as silver, and I got the pretty black one, lol)

Other Thoughts: For the price of this, who cares if the "AC adapter" is really just a second USB cable? Other than that, it looks cool (especially in the dark) and works how it should. Don't waste your money and get one that costs 50 bucks. This is perfect.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't bother

Pros: Inexpensive. It works.

Cons: Requires the output of two usb ports to run. You get two cables: one for power and one for data. While they're necessary, they add to the clutter. Just as soon stick with a more expensive case that doesn't require two USB ports to run.

1 out of 5 eggsFlimsy design with NO AC ADAPTER

Pros: It's cheap.

Cons: Very flimsy design -- The rear panel is only connected to the main circuit board by two blobs of glue... and the rear panel snapped off while I was trying to assemble the thing. Also, this kit does *NOT* come with a true AC Adapter. It does have a AC Port, but instead of an adapter it comes with a special USB cable designed to supply it with power. This can be a problem if you don't have enough powered USB Ports.

Other Thoughts: I've worked with a variety of external hard drive cases for both laptop and desktop hard drives. This case was the worst by far. I'm not even sure the adapter even works: my computer refuses to recognize the device. I must admit that I was having problems with the hard drive that I put inside the case, so it's possible that the drive itself has failed. Still, the cheap design is a serious turn-off. Next time, I'll pay a little more and get something that won't fall apart in my hands.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for the $

Pros: Looks great, inexpensive, small, nice tight fit for a 2.5 inch drive, runs cool, recognized instantly by XP after restarting.
Would definitly buy again.

Cons: no on/off switch

Other Thoughts: I've only had it for a day, so long term use not tested. Newegg shipments are fast.
