4 out of 5 eggsWorks.

Pros: It's cheap and it works. eSATA.

Cons: It's cheap. eSATA. Bright blue LED.

Other Thoughts: A little glitchy getting it put together, but it does the job. The eSATA connection makes the drive show up as an internal fixed drive. This is good for speed, it seems like it's just as fast as an internal SATA drive, but it's not good for software that backs up to an external drive. Carbonite, for instance, wouldn't mirror to this in eSATA mode, because it requires an external drive.
I'm not a fan of the bright blue flickering LED, but it's easy to fix with some tape.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Price!

Pros: eSata connection works great! Drive is just as fast as if it was inside my laptop! Installation of the drive was simple (completed in less than 5 minutes). Plastic end plates seem a little cheap, but for the price I can't complain or take off an egg for it.

Cons: Manual leaves little to be desired. It reads like it was written by a poor translation program. I have no problem with buying products made in the far east, but PLEASE get someone that speaks English NATIVELY to write your English manuals!!!!!! Also, manual does not mention Windows 7 at all. If you are using eSata with Windows 7 you don't need to install any drivers as Windows 7 has everything that is needed already. Someone with less knowledge of computers would be very confused about this.

Other Thoughts: Manual should more clear about when you need to use BOTH USB plugs on the power connector. I have a 300GB drive in the enclosure and having just one plugged in works fine. I have not tried the USB connection method since my laptop has eSata.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat eSATA adapter paired with a poorly designed enclosure

Pros: The unit comes with all necessary cables for both eSATA and USB usage. The blue LED indicator can light up a room. Electronically, it works for what I've tried - a SATA drive connected in eSATA mode.

Cons: I couldn't get either hard drive I tried to actually fit into the enclosure; I've just got the board and drive sitting on my desk. This will become more of an annoyance when I try to use it as a portable drive. -1 egg for this.

Minor con - the box it comes in is massive for what it is.

Other Thoughts: In eSATA mode, power is provided with the included 2xUSB->DC cable, which has worked for me even with only one of the USBs plugged in. You could also buy a DC adapter to free up USB ports.

I haven't tried USB mode or with an IDE drive.

3 out of 5 eggsBe careful

Pros: Comes with eSATA cable.

Cons: Only able to fit up to a 250g drive unless you do not use the securing screws then can only get up to a 500g drive to fit

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these. I dropped one and it protected the hdd but the faceplate is plastic spot-welded in two places to the circuit board and both welds broke. Now I have to take the faceplate off to plug in the cords which means the enclosure is open. I only dropped it from about 2 ft.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Looks good. Easy to setup drive.

Cons: Arrived dead. Powers on but the controller chip was burned out. The USB and eSATA switch may confuse some people. The power boosting cable has 2 USB connectors so you could end up using 3 USB ports to run this drive.

Other Thoughts: Would be great if it could auto detect between USB and eSATA.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy!!

Pros: Very happy with the product, and packaging. It is great that this enclosure came with the eSATA cables as well. It appears to be more durable than other enclosures I have had in the past. The drive fits snug in the enclosure, which is very comforting.

Cons: As other people have commented in other reviews, the screws were a little "screwy". However, the key is to get the screws seated properly.

Other Thoughts: Screws and carryining case are included as well. I will definietly purchase this product again!

5 out of 5 eggsStill Happy

Pros: I've had two of these for over 2 years now. Both enclosures are still going strong and working well. The LED's in the front gave up within the first month, but I don't care.

Cons: One of my power supplies bit the dust after 18 months of constant use. It's an unusual socket so a replacement isn't readily available. If you're concerned, unplug your power supplies when they aren't in use.

Other Thoughts: It's all in the name, this is some OK gear. Hard to beat the price point for the functionality (ESATA or PATA/USB in one metal case).

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It does work extremely well. Have not had any problems with it.

Cons: The design seems a little bit off in regards to ease of access of the hard drive. You have 2 screws that are very easy to strip. After reading the other reviews here, I was as careful as I could be and I still ended up stripping one of the two screws.

Other Thoughts: Aside from the screw stripping issue, this product works. I don't know how fast is is when compared to other products. I've used it with both sata/pata. This is a great buy. I still need to test the ESATA, I've only used it with the USB/mini USB cable and I have not needed to use the extra power cables that it comes with.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: Works as advertised. eSATA and USB. Power requirements are not high. Valued much more than the price paid for it.

Cons: Haven't found a real one yet. Would be nice if the wires were less cluttered, but that's not a fault of the product. The price you pay to use both eSATA and USB.

Other Thoughts: Considering that Best Buy had a similar enclosure that was USB 2/3 only for almost 3x the cost (yes.. almost 3x the cost of this drive), I quickly steered my client away from this and convinced him to get this enclosure from Newegg... where I also purchased one for myself.

4 out of 5 eggseSata only for SATA

Pros: Works with both IDE/PSATA and SATA Disk drives, no drivers need to be installed from the CD (which is for older OS like Win 95/98).

Cons: The eSATA interface only works with SATA Drives, NOT IDE/PSATA drives.

Other Thoughts: As I said, the eSATA interface only works with SATA Drives, NOT IDE/PSATA drives. For IDE/PSATA you need to use the USB 2.0 connection. This is not clear from the carefully worded product description which suggests that the eSATA connectivity will work for any type of drive. So the drive works fine given this limitation.
