4 out of 5 eggsKEEP IT SIMPLE -JUST THE CHARGER

Pros: quality product.

Cons: CAD 69.99 is Expensive as it is marketed with batteries included. You could sell the charger itself for no more than say CAD 34.99, keeping the NO SHIPPING COST with it making it an attractive buy.

Other Thoughts: I have few friends i would like to gift with one or these chargers. I much prefer to own Sanyo 'eneloops' specially as this Powerex come with the cheaper Imedion batteries

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the Best.

Pros: I have had this for over a year now, and this charger delivers everything you could ask for and then some. Solid and reliable.

Cons: Takes a little time to understand all the features; the time spent reading the instructions is worth it.

Other Thoughts: Newegg says 1 year warranty. Powerex still shows a 3 year warranty on their website.

5 out of 5 eggsA heckuva smart charger

Pros: This unit is great at not only basic charging, but also battery conditioning, revival, and diagnosis. Out of 12 existing NiMH I had, it found two to be bad. After refreshing both, one worked well again but the other was toast. Job well done C9000.
I really really like how it continually updates voltage, current, and time charging, for each battery in the unit. The display is nice and large, with a bright backlight.
I very much like how it tells you how much charge a battery took, and it's voltage, after the charge cycle. Makes it easy to match batteries by voltage or charge.

Cons: - Unit is a little bulky to only charge 4 batteries at a time.

- The backlight on the display is ALWAYS on, anytime there is a battery in the unit being charged in any of the modes, and stays on when charge cycle finishes. This wastes power and is mildly annoying since you cannot turn the light off while the charger is in use. Should have either a (long) time-out, or a 'push to light' button. Seems like a silly omission for a premium charger.

- Since the off-angle viewing of the LCD is poor, you need to be looking fairly straight on the display to read it clearly. However, the flip-out wire prop on the back of the charger (which is intended to help with this issue) is much too short. It doesn't prop the back of the charger anywhere hear high enough to really improve the display readability, and the prop is a bit narrow such that it tends to make the charger a little wobbly when plugging in a battery in the first or fourth slot.

Other Thoughts: Other than the need for a backlight on/off button,...

The only other feature it needs is an "estimated time to charge" or "estimated time remaining in charge cycle" in the display. This may not be technically feasible but it would be handy to have...most users would like to know "how much time before these batteries are charged (and ready)?

Oh, and I would have bought this same charger if it had 8 slots. I know Powerex makes an 8-slot smart charger, but IIRC it does not have all the same charging features and modes that this one has...so I had to settle for four slots.

Overall, an excellent charger. Five Eggs!

Side note - the Powerex 2700mH AA batteries are da bomb! Very noticeably larger charge/long duty cycle than any other NiMH batteries I have (Eneloop, Mallory). They get the five-egg treatment too!

3 out of 5 eggsis it really so good???

Pros: Charges a know good battery

Cons: Charges a known BAD battery but the battery will fail even though the charger says the battery is good (by giving it a high voltage and mah rating). It ill NOT tell you a battery is weak or bad. It takes 2-3 days to "FIX" a bad battery but the battery stays bad and weak. I wrote maha an email asking what the deal was and they stated " the battery is not good if it wont hold a charge" to which I replied "Then why does it NOT report the battery as bad"? Why spend 2-3 days "ATTEMPTING" to repair a bad battery only to fail and waste 3 days at it.

Only rates 1 battery charge point at a time.
Does not give overall repair of charge time.
You have to cycly through 3 stats per battery times 4 batteries to know whats going on. Very frustrating.
NO battery meter when you plug the battery in. You have to run through a full 2 day cycle to get what? (nothing!).

Other Thoughts: I really dont see the point. This thing wont fix or repair a weak battery nor will it report a bad battery as bad.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerex - Great Investment

Pros: It will save you money in the long run. The PowerEx batteries are at 2700mAh which are great for long lasting performance after one charge.

Cons: Short Term you may not be happy about the initial investment, but it will pay for itself after several charges and if it recovers any Ni-MH "dead" batteries.

Other Thoughts: Independent Review:
