3 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, but 40% slower than direct USB 3.0 connection

Pros: It does what it is supposed to do, nice blue-red light to indicate connection and power

Cons: Slower than direct USB 3.0 connection

Other Thoughts: I performed several speed tests with and USB 3.0 external hard drive. The drive was the only device connected to the hub. I performed a copy test from my local hard drive to the external one. Transferring 85GB of mixed files (pictures, docs, pdfs, videos, cd images) on average was 40% slower than connecting the external hard drive directly to the computers usb 3.0 port.
I expected to be slower but not 40% especially when you have only one device connected to the hub.

It is still twice faster the usb 2.0 port

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Four ports, power adapter, red lights indicate a device is connected to the hub, blue light indicates the hub has power, and it's very fast (I can move 80-90 GB per hour copying data from the PC to an external drive during backups).

I had to replace one of these (see below) and tech support was friendly, helpful, and shipped a replacement immediately. I just had to ship the old one back.

Summary, fast and I'd buy another one.

Cons: Had to exchange a device.

Wish they were $19.95 shipped.

Other Thoughts: I knocked off an egg for the problem and the price. I originally purchased this in 2012 on a shell shocker deal and it lasted for a few months before randomly/intermittently refusing to connect devices. The red light would come on indicating something was plugged in to the port, but nothing would show up on the computer. I tried replacing the cable(s) in/out, verified I had a solid connection to the PC, but sometimes nothing would help, including rebooting both the PC and the hub.

Other times it was fine, which led me to believe that it was just a loose, or poorly attached connection inside the hub itself. These are mass produced and it can happen. As mentioned above, tech support was very friendly and helpful.

The replacement has been working fine for months now with no issues. If the connection is flakey, that just happens sometimes, even with my USB 2.0 hub that plugged into the other side of the laptop.

Digression - Why on earth does anyone put USB 2.0 ports on computers these days? OK there's the controller size issue (USB 3.0 is slightly larger to accommodate the extra connections), but come on, let's make everything faster. And shouldn't USB hub prices be much lower today? They can't be that much more expensive to produce in 2013 compared to USB 2.0, but some prices are still ridiculously high. Oh well.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 8 months

Pros: Worked well, but died after 8 months

Cons: Initially it did everything I wanted it to, but it just died on me less than 8 months after I purchase it and I can't get a refund or replacement. Completely unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy

4 out of 5 eggsGreat USB 3.0 Hub for the Price!

Pros: This hub does what it is suppossed to do, no problems except for one listed below.

Cons: The only problem that came to me was when you plug or unplug a device from the hub, the other devices throughout the port may go out temporary, then come back on. This was a simple fix, though. I just have too be gentle when plugging and unplugging devices from the hub. The only times that this happened was when, I was grabbing the entire hub as a whole with some force. Just being gentle fixed the issue, so don't be hard on it.

Other Thoughts: All and all, this is a great USB 3.0 hub, although I think that the 6 foot USB cable is a tad short, but I was still able to get it connected to the back of my tower. Also the power cable is a little short as well.

5 out of 5 eggs4 months, Heavy Use A-O-K

Pros: Nice indicator lights, cables are high quality, Power supply is newer lightweight advanced switching type.

Cons: No method to mount on wall. But it's light and double sided foam tape works well as long as cables are supported by something else.

Other Thoughts: I have 3 pro-raid units (5 TB total) used for source code library, various backups, large text databases (6 to 10 million XML and SGML files). Over 4 months and still going strong. We are buying a second one since a different brand failed in another application. Using Hub and external PRO RAID units since the arrays must be able to be moved in literally a minute or two if computer fails for any reason.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Worked for 24 hours

Cons: Failed and will no longer power on.

Other Thoughts: I see that this has been discontinued. I guess we know why. I had purchased this product for my son who is now attending an out-of-state college. Getting this back from him and RMA'ing it to newegg is going to be a hassle.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks OK most of the time

Pros: Has 4 easily accessible ports, each with their own "active" light; comes with a power supply; USB cord is about 5' long; provides great USB speeds even when copying data from one attached device to another, such as HD to HD.

Cons: Periodically (which is why only 1 star is removed) won't reconnect when computer (Acer TimeLineX, Win7 Home Premium x64) resumes from hibernation. I've updated the drivers, tried to reload them while everything is running, etc. to regain the connection, but nothing works. What I end up doing is disconnecting the hub from the PC, and then plugging it in when I know I'm going to want access to external devices.

Other Thoughts: I bought this from the egg many months ago when they had a 1 day special. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it now looks like they discontinued it anyway, which is too bad.

There's little to no reason for these things to be as expensive as they are. I suggest you not pay over $30 for a hub/power.

5 out of 5 eggsI'm Back For More

Pros: It's small and fast. Has great lights on it to show you what's what. I love the fact that the USB 3.0 cable that comes with it is nice and long and it's all light blue! I can very easily distinguish it from other cables.

It's powered. When I plug my USB 3.0 drives into my USB 3.0 ExpressCard on my laptop, the drives don't get enough power to function properly. No problem. I plug this USB hub to my ExpressCard (with the long, light blue cable), plug the AC power pack into the UPS and plug up my USB 3.0 WD Passport to the hub. Now, there's plenty of power to run it!

Cons: I can usually find something I don't like about a product, but I really can't find one for this. Nicely done!

Other Thoughts: I don't know if it was my fault or the fault of the product, but my USB 3.0 power pack broke! The prongs that go into the outlet have a plastic housing that supports them. It broke. I didn't dock a star for it since I don't know. I couldn't find the power pack at a reasonable price so I just went ahead and bought a few more of these hubs. (Got them for about 9 bucks cheaper each paid 3.50 shipping total for two units on another site that starts with a small e and ends with a bay.) I do love the egg though and have been using them for the entire time they've been open. I don't know why these hubs are so expensive. It's not just this one. This one is on par with the others as far as price goes, but I am really happy with it!
