4 out of 5 eggsGood external enclosure

Pros: - USB and eSATA external connections
- IDE and SATA internal connections
- Fan included
- Quiet operation
- Screw Driver included
- Supports up to 3 TB capacity drives

Cons: Died in little over a year.

Other Thoughts: The enclosure met my expectations for the most part. It stopped powering on a little over a year of use. I only deducted one egg due to the fact this enclosure was in use almost 24x7.

1 out of 5 eggsArrrrgh

Pros: nice box?

Cons: for the want of a nail.... there are two screws that keep a drive from sitting in the enclosure.... the fact that they are hot glued with the LED bracket... just further irritates me.... I didn't pay double the price of a cheap enclosure, because I actually wanted something that worked

Other Thoughts: Sabrent usually has good inexpensive... it just works stuff... this thing is a bored engineers dream

3 out of 5 eggsNoisy Fan

Pros: One of the few Enclosures with a Fan.

Cons: eSata interface slower than USB2.
Fan can become noisy.

Other Thoughts: I turn to Newegg User Reviews for troubleshooting. When one of our Sabrent enclosures developed a fan problem, I found in another review that the fan is a standard 80x80x10 mm fan that can be replaced. The fan snaps into a bracket and can be replaced. I also read another review that said he used TryFlow Lube which quieted his fan. I had some LubeGel, so I tried some and the fan is running fine again.

We have 4 of these enclosures running nightly backups and the units run 24/7 and we have had no other problems with them other than the slow eSata (we use USB2 as it is faster) and the one noisy fan.

Pros: Nice construction quality

Cons: Does not come with the SATA cable or power cable for SATA hard drives. Nothing in the description about needing to order these

2 out of 5 eggsImperfect Solution

Pros: same size and shape as Rosewill enclosures already owned

power brick fungible with Rosewill enclosures already owned

Cons: very tight fit makes HD hard to install and remove from enclosure

PATA power connector very tight fit, hard to remove

eSATA socket is upside down WRT cable label indicating top/up

PATA HD only visible to PC via USB connection

Other Thoughts: I bought it so that I could connect a PATA HD via eSATA, so it is useless for the primary purpose for which it was purchased, throughput more than double that of USB2. At that time I was very busy, so it took a while to determine this limitation, exhausting the 30 day return period. While I can use it for SATA HDs, I already had enough & easier to use converters for that purpose.

4 out of 5 eggsSabrent Enclosure

Pros: I wanted the same of type unit I already have owned from 2009. I found the Sabrent Enclosure on Newegg. and ordered two of them which I received on 7/2/13. My old unit has not had any problems and has run many hours daily. This year though the fan did start making a lot of noise but, I took the unit apart and removed the sticker from the center hub of the fan. I put a drop of TryFlow lube in it and replaced the sticker. The fan runs as quiet as when new and has been for about 7 months now. My former computer gave up totally and I had two 500 GB drives in the machine and desired not to loose all my information thus, the reason for looking for two more of these Enclosures. Now, my old unit had cables in it to connect the SATA drive and the new units do not have cables. I did not see exactly how to connect the drives up to the circuit board and called Customer Service. All I was told was what came in the box and nothing was known on how to connect the drives. nor anything about any cables to connect the drives. I went on line to Sabrent and E-mailed their tech Support which was replied to in a couple of hours. After reading their message replay. I was told that the drive slides directly into the connector. Which it does and without any problems. I tried both new units with my drives and everything works as it should thus far. If the new units work as well as the old unit has, I will never have anything bad to say about this product. I hope this helps other folks too.

Cons: No Cons,

Other Thoughts: The price is good and the fan make it all the better.

2 out of 5 eggsSabrent EC-UEIS7

Pros: Seems well built and work with Seagate 1TB SATA HD.

Cons: I have owned two of these external drive enclosures. The LED power and drive activity lights have failed on both. The last one purchased very shortly after purchase. I sent email to customer support at Sabrent, but never received a reply. Failed LED lights seems to be a common issue with this product.

5 out of 5 eggsperfect

Pros: As described. Perfect for what I needed having old IDE and SATA drives from on old crashed PC. Quiet fan, wasn't sure it was running, but it was. Solid metal construction, not cheap.

Ordered on Monday afternoon and got in Wednesday morning - 1.5 business days! I thought it was 4-7 days Newegg!

Cons: Probably could use an instruction manual on how to install either type of HD for the D.A.'s like myself.

Other Thoughts: Just a little tight on the inside with wires and connections.

Can I work for you Newegg???
