2 out of 5 eggsDied After Minimal Use

Pros: USB3 is fast. The fan is silent.

Bonus, I have a spare fan for the other enclosure thats identical to this one from another brand.

Cons: Died after minimal use.

Other Thoughts: I had used this enclosure a few times to back stuff up from my internal drives and it was working flawlessly for a few months of rare use. Then one day a month or so ago I copied over about 120gb of data to the drive and that worked fine, then I was copying some more over in smaller chunks and I kept getting an I/O Error and the explorer window closing down. I took the drive out and tested with another USB to SATA adapter and the drive worked flawlessly so it wasnt the 3TB drive I had inside it that was the problem. Im suspecting the enclosures controller board had been effectively overworked maybe and gave out. The thing is I have an identical enclosure from another brand and that one still works. So I think I am done with this brand. There is no reason why this enclosure should have died after such minimal usage.

1 out of 5 eggsDrops connection after 6 months

Pros: None.

Cons: I used once. Then it stayed unused for 6months. Then one day I started using and connection kept on dropping. I did disk-scan but that did not help. Then I used Rosewill Enclosure and same disk worked fine. I have 7-8 enclosures from Rosewill. This is my first Sabrent case and not going to recommend to anyone. I am using Elite Book 8570W laptop with Win7.

Other Thoughts: Connection dropping may corrupt data. So I am not going to risk using this again. Going to dust bin.

3 out of 5 eggsbad quality

Pros: I can connect my HD and it works.

Cons: The fan inside the case is not secured, and the wires snapped off very easily. This is a case of terrible materials, and cheap manufacturing.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for...

1 out of 5 eggsNot Compatible with 2TB+ Drives

Pros: Easy Assembly.

Cons: This enclosure is not compatible with either a 2TB or 3TB hard dirve. I bought this unit to replace an older USB 2.0 enclosure. However, this Sabrent brand unit was not compatible with 2TB+ hard drives (my old USB 2.0 enclosure is compatible with 2TB+).

Other Thoughts: I have since ordered a different brand USB 3.0 enclosure and my 2TB+ hard drives work great. I would not recommend this Sabrent brand enclosure for large hard drives. For test purposes, I had installed an 80GB SATA hard dirve into the Sabrent unit and it works fine for the smaller hard drive.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed

Pros: none

Cons: Besides not working
Because of my 3TB drive?
Loud fan

Other Thoughts: From the other reviews
Which I should have read
This unit says it is compatible with 3TB drives
But it is not

4 out of 5 eggsNice metal enclosure just one problem

Pros: Solid enclosure made of metal. Easy to take apart and reassemble. Included screwdriver is a nice touch. Fan is not noisy at all. Fan will definitely help extend drive life as these newer high speed drives run hot under heavy use on a summer day.

Cons: When I first installed it was literally "plug and play" which is always nice. BUT, when I reboot my HP Windows 7 64 bit system (i7 platform) the drive is not detected on the USB 3.0 port. I have to disconnect then reconnect to a USB 3.0 port and then it shows up and works FLAWLESSLY. My drivers are up to date according to HP's website and the drive does not ship with drivers. So each time I reboot I have to remove/reconnect this otherwise GREAT drive. Probably an Intel or Microsoft issue that will be resolved some day. Not a huge deal to me since I don't reboot often.

Other Thoughts: This drive looks awesome with a black metal ATX case next to it.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works well, BUT. . . .

Pros: Effectively fan-cooled USB 3.0 enclosure. Tests to USB 3.0 benchmarks using Crystal Disk. Electronics seem to work well.

Cons: Directions are worthless!!! No diagram. Description is completely NOT helpful in terms of how to get into the case to install the drive. Very poor case design!!!

There are TEN screws. You have to remove SIX of them to get into the case and add another FOUR to secure the drive. In addition the quality of the case construction is poor.

The Rosewill cases I have are MUCH better designed - remove 2 screws and slide out the entire tray. Secure drive with 2 screws. Reassemble. But those have no fan and I needed a fan for this install.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I'm keeping the case. It works and I've already worked through the frustrations. But buyer beware. . . .

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value, Works better than expected

Pros: Works fantastic with my Western Digital Enterprise class drive. Easy to install, absolutely no configuration problems. Fans run quiet and the base feels sturdy.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if their were improvements to this unit made recently or what the issue is, but I am not experiencing any of the issues that the other reviewers have commented on.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: USB 3.0 support
Tough metal case
Cooling fan
Stylish construction; this won't look bad on your desk!
Awesome looking blue LEDs
They even ship a screwdriver to open it up!

Cons: The blue LEDs may not mesh well with your current setup, especially if you have any LEDs that aren't blue.
AC adapter may not be for everyone; this is required for the higher power draw of a full size desktop hard drive.
SATA III is not supported.

Other Thoughts: I recently upgraded my PC to a 128 GB SSD and a 7200 RPM 2 TB HDD, which left me with an old WD 1 TB Green Drive I didn't want in my array any more. I got this so I could use it for backups.

The case is a tough metal construction, with a grating on the front to allow for air flow, along with a fan on the side to keep the drive cool during use. Blue LEDs will mesh well with an PC that has blue LEDs set up. This enclosure is fast, allowing for connection of SATA I and II drives with a USB 3 external interface.

A foot is shipped with this unit, as it is intended to be left on your desk, never really intended to be unplugged. If you're not going to be using it, a power switch on the back allows you to shut off the unit to conserve electricity.

Overall, I am very pleased with this unit, and would recommend it to anyone else who wants a good reliable enclosure. The enclosure does not feel cheap; quite the contrary, it feels quite luxurious! The cherry on top was that I was expecting to have to fetch a screwdriver to open it, but no, SABRENT packed one with the unit! I was so pleased to see this little addition, and definitely recommend their products to anyone.
