5 out of 5 eggsA Good Enclosure

Pros: It has been running a 1tb Toshiba drive connected to my Raspberry Pi for a good 2 years.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If your drive is making a ticking noise when you plug it into your computer, that means USB power alone is not enough for your drive! Not this enclosures fault. (NOTE: Read the power requirements on the top of your HDD, it can range from 350ma to 1.5a depending on the size). Rule of thumb: the larger the storage size, the more power it will likely need. Always good to use a separate power source rather than tax your USB ports to death.

5 out of 5 eggsWhy the complaints?

Pros: I like the on/off switch.

Works well with 320G WD blue and 1T samsung drives.

Cons: Finish scratches off easily against sharp edges.
It's like a sprayed on, soft black rubber or vinyl.
(Probably absorbs vibrations though, - very quiet)

Other Thoughts: Works fine with above drives (have not used with others)
Cable works.
Fits nicely in a Case Logic VHS-10.
Good transfer rates, even on USB2.

1 out of 5 eggsNot aluminum

Pros: I wrote that the cable was bad.
It works fine with a different cable.

Cons: Side frame is plastic, and bottom & top covers are iron.
Details says the material is aliminum, but not true.

4 out of 5 eggsBe sure to use separate power supply

Pros: Does the job if separate power supply used.

Cons: Requires #00 (double-zero) phillips screwdriver to open the case. (Other cases require a #000 triple-zero tip.)

Other Thoughts: USB ports from a computer are usually limited to 300 mA of current output but hard drives require around 500 mA which is why the computer drops the drive--too much current drain which might burn up a trace on the motherboard. Make it a habit of using a separate AC power supply or a powered hub. I use Bytecc AC-HD201 5V AC adapter, Newegg # N82E16812270002.

1 out of 5 eggspoor quality

Pros: cheap

Cons: didnt work - kept disconnecting from computer. Tried on 3 computers. 2 of the 3 did not work at all. One was a windows 8 and the other was windows 7. The 3rd windows 7 computer worked for a while and then it started to disconnect and reconnect over and over.
