OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 500 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

Great PSU

white Reviewed By: G2 on 5/1/2007
Rating + 5
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: 34A max on the 12v rails, and 80 PLUS certified. Easily powers my e6600 system with an 8800GTS. Built by Se@sonic, a quality manufacturer.
Cons: Lackluster looks, but that's not what you buy a PSU for anyway.
Other Thoughts: After my experience with this unit, I highly recommend these 80 PLUS certified PSUs. I noticed the wattage reading on my killawatt go down by an average of 15% after upgrading from a standard efficiency PSU. Reduced energy usage, reduced heat... can't beat that.

Good basic 80+ PSU

white Reviewed By: Dave on 7/25/2007
Rating + 5
Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: 80+ certified means it's very efficient, generates less heat. Very quiet, but not totally silent.
Cons: As another user pointed out, perhaps some right-angle plugs would be nice. They would've helped in my P180b build.
Other Thoughts: Wish it had modular cabling, but that's what the NeoHE series is for.

Died after 10 months

white Reviewed By: Tech Lovin' Chiquita on 11/25/2009
Rating + 2
Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Seemed perfect for the first 10 months -- easy install, smooth and pretty quiet operation. No troubles.
Cons: One day my computer went fuzzy-screened and crashed in the middle of working on something. When I tried to turn it back on, the power supply would spin 6 or 7 times, shut down the computer, turn it back on and repeat the cycle over and over until I shut it off.
Other Thoughts: Had to RMA through Antec. Just installed the replacement and it's working okay so far. Hopefully I won't hit any bumps with Antec getting my refund -- I had to buy a new one and wait to be refunded, since I didn't want to wait a month or so to complete an exchange.

Cons: Not really a con but when building a micro ATX with one of those newegg.com's opevia's i think there called. (too lazy to look up the name) it runs a little 'warm' don't freak out its a PSU doing its job and its not your CPU or MB.

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Thick Heavy-Duty Cables, Lots of Heavy-Duty Plugs, runs pretty quiet, runs cool too. 3-Year Warranty!
Cons: Haven't noticed any yet
Other Thoughts: I'd been thinking about replacing my old, cheap 300-watt PS and when it started making rude noizes (fan bearing going bad), I did my research. I chose this PS because it's Antec, a brand that I really trust, and because of it's 80+% efficiency rating. Also, I went with a 500-watt PS because I believe in over-engineering things...better to have a 500-watt PS running cool @ 50% load than a 300-watt PS running hot @ 80-plus percent load and screaming for mercy. I was *very* impressed with the PS when I opened the box. This thing just screams quality, with a thick, sturdy casing, and lots of heavy-duty cables with lots of heavy plugs. WOOT! I definitely got what I paid for, and then some. It runs so much quieter than the old PS I was using, and much cooler too. I like the 3-year warranty, it speaks volumes to me when a company stands so solidly behind their products like Antec does. I'm sold on Antec!
