Antec's Signature Series SG650 power supply takes their passion for quality to the next level. The engineers have designed in details that maximize efficiency. Magnetic amplifiers have been replaced with voltage regulators for the 3.3V and 5V outputs reducing transient response time down to 10 microseconds. The faster response ensures a smoother power flow to your system.

The 80mm fan is regulated with Pulse Width Modulation so it can reduce speed by up to 50%. The dual double layer PCB does two things: it allows for a lower component density and increased efficiency. This lets the PSU take advantage of the slower potential fan speeds. It also helps the PSU to achieve an 80-Plus Bronze efficiency rating.

A hybrid system gives you the best of both worlds in cable management. Mandatory cables, like those going to the motherboard, are hard-wired for minimal resistance, and to save you assembly time. The 2 PCIe cables let you hook up dual video cards to the SLI certified PSU. Peripheral cables can be added at need. Antec has put their signature on the PSU, so you can put yours on the whole system.

  • newegg 650W Maximum Power A maximum power of 650W delivers safe, reliable output for high-end PC systems.
  • newegg 80 PLUS Bronze Certified The 80 PLUS Bronze certified power supply provides high power efficiency of at least 82% at any load between 20% and 100%, saving your money on your electrical bill, reducing heat in your computer's system and prolonging its life.
  • newegg Pulse Width Modulation Fan The Antec Signature SG650 power supply features an 80mm Pulse Width Modulation fan for whisper-quiet cooling.
  • newegg NVIDIA SLI Certified The Antec Signature SG650 PSU has gone through a series of rigorous NVIDIA SLI certification tests for maximum system stability when building NVIDIA SLI PCs.
  • newegg Advanced Hybrid Cable Management The advanced Hybrid Cable Management System provides an optimal solution for power distribution and airflow by hardwiring mandatory cables to reduce resistance and enabling peripheral cables to be installed as needed to minimize cable clutter for improved airflow.

4 out of 5 eggsRMA Update

Pros: Update to my previous 1 star review. Antec RMA was very efficient, they replaced the SG-650 with an upgraded model since the SG-650 was discontinued. I was very impressed with the speed of the RMA turnaround and how smooth the whole return process was.

Cons: Return RMA shipping cost $15.

1 out of 5 eggsDead at three

Pros: No issues until year three of ownership. Powered Intel i7-950 and Nvidia GTX 280.

Cons: Died after three years of ownership. Very frustrating to spend the money on a company's high end product and have it fail, especially a power supply, which can comprise other system components as well.

Other Thoughts: Not surprised to see the product discontinued.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Died after 2.5 years

Pros: This is an update to my 5/1/2012 review. The SG-650 unit I had died after 2.5 years, but at least it died gracefully between power-ups and did not damage any of my computer components, so a big plus here. The SG series is discontinued by Antec, so for the RMA I received an HCP-750 and my system's happily running again. Antec didn't give me any grief and went through the RMA process professionally, so I'm satisfied with the service and how they honored the warranty.

Cons: The RMA process took a bit longer than I would've liked, so -1 egg for that. I initiated the RMA on a Monday, and got my replacement eight days later (and that's with advanced RMA). They did credit back my card once they received the dead power supply, a few days later. Cost me about $15 for return shipping + insurance with USPS.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2.5 years

Pros: Unit worked well and provided reliable power during the 2.5 years it worked on my i7 920, GTX 260 rig.

Cons: When I pay $174 for a top of the line 'signature' series power supply, I expect it to last more than 2.5 years. Unit decided to not turn on again.

Other Thoughts: Let's see how good Antec's RMA is. I expect to get a signature series for replacement and not a different/lesser model. Besides the professional review, I bought the unit because for my rig I needed a cross-flow airflow and not one with a fan on the bottom side. I'll post a follow-up on how Antec resolves this.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

I certainly apologize for the malfunction and your frustration. We'd be more than happy to get you a replacement under warranty and hope that meets your satisfaction. Should you have any questions in the meantime, please write us at VIP@antec.com. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and Solid

Pros: Love the separate space for the PSU. I have Four Hard Drives in there and did install a front-side fan blowing into the PSU chamber. Plenty cable management opportunities. Looks cool.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Despite careful measuring, I was still taken back by the reality of the size of this beast. Sure enough, specs are spot-on, but the experience feels full-size tower.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2hrs

Pros: Worked great for 2 hrs. Long enough to install Win 7

Cons: Slight bunring smell then lights out

Other Thoughts: RMAed to Newegg with box cables, etc. but not the thin cardboard outer box. Since this has the UPC code, Newegg will not approve the RMA!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Modular is the best thing since sliced bread.
-there's plenty of extra cables for all your peripherals.
-There's no flashy lights.

Cons: Not a very good wattage for the price.

Other Thoughts: When I bought this I was dazzled by the name and looks. I also thought 650W was more than I'd ever need is a psu.

It died on me after about 10 months, I haven't contacted Antec about it yet, but I will. I didn't modify the rating for the failure though. It got 4 eggs because of the listed con.

5 out of 5 eggsAntec Signature 650W

Pros: The Antec Signature power supplies are the very best power supplies on the market. Line regulation and ripple voltage are the best, some units come close in the ripple voltage category (PC Power & Cooling 910W, Corsair HX750, Corsair HX850). The Antec CP-850 also performs very close to the Signature PSUs, but it only fits in a few cases (Antec P183/P193, 1200).

The Signature 650W has a surprisingly quiet, Japanese made sleeve bearing 80mm exhaust fan. Thanks to the unique and innovative dual PCB design, these power suppliers stay cooler than any other.

Line regulation is impeccable, while I don't have a multimeter, I measure with softwares such as HWMonitor and EVGA E-LEET. The highest I've seen the +3.3v rail get to was 3.34v, and the lowest being 3.28v. For the +5v rail, lowest is 4.99v, highest is 5.04v. For the +12v rails, lowest is 12.00v, highest is 12.08v. This is due to the quality internals. Good OCP on the +12v rails. Good efficiency, 80 Plus BRONZE.

Cons: Price. The price is outrageous for a 650W PSU which only outputs 43A (516W) continuous on the +12v rails. 43A is a great value for a 520W PSU and a very good value for a 550W PSU. But this is a 650W PSU. Since this PSU costs so much, the continuous +12v output should be 52A (624W) at the bare minimum.

Modern day motherboards, CPU, PCI-E devices (video cards), drives, and fans all draw power from the +12v rails only. 43A is fine for a GTS 250 SLI setup and an overclocked CPU, or a GTX 285 setup with an overclocked CPU (no large overclocks), but if this was a 52A PSU, you'd be able to run a GTX 260 SLI setup with a nice overclock on your CPU.

Other Thoughts: Since this PSU performs so good I won't take off any eggs. I would have liked to see a higher efficiency rating for the price too, 80 Plus SILVER or better yet, GOLD.
