5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE - I can't test power supplies

Pros: Good Warranty
Good buy $/watts

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I left a review earlier that I was disappointed that the unit didn't last longer. I now realize that I wasn't using my power supply tester correctly, so I probably RMA'ed a good unit. My bad. I have no complaints about Antec or this power supply in particular, and am a little embarrassed about the mixup.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed in lifespan

Pros: Good price for a brand-name power supply.
Good warranty.

Cons: Only lasted 18 months of not-very-strenuous use. RMA process is not particularly fast, and you have to pay for shipping to return the defective unit. I hope that this was just bad luck. If the replacement unit doesn't last at least three years, then I'm done with Antec power supplies.

Other Thoughts: Holes on the power supply and my case didn't line up quite right, but I made it work. That is probably an issue with the cheap case, though.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi gtnorthshore,

We're sorry that your power supply didn't hold up and we hope your replacement meets your satisfaction. Our PSUs go through rigorous testing and are made to be long-lasting. However, there are issues from time to time and once this happens, we do our best to make sure customers like you are taken care of. If you have any questions in the meantime, don't hesitate to email us at VIP@antec.com. Thank you.

1 out of 5 eggsAntec support is the absolute worst

Pros: Cables are sleeved. I like the finish of the PSU.

Cons: To start off with, the unit doesn't work. The wiring is loose and any slight bump will cause it to lose power; sometimes it instantly comes back (not without forcing my PC to reboot though), sometimes you really have to move the PC to get any power back at all. Long story short, I tried to RMA this originally and Antec wouldn't let me do an advance replacement option because this model is Newegg exclusive (which isn't specified on the product page...). They would rather me go weeks without having a PSU while I ship mine to them and they ship me one back. After posting a 1 egg review due to this, they gave me a Manufacturer Response saying to email their vip@antec.com address and that they'd sort everything out. I did that, and got them to agree to go ahead and do an advance replacement (where they send me a unit prior to me sending them mine) but they had me submit a new ticket in their awful ticketing system to process it. (continued in Other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: However, once I submitted a new ticket in their system, their poorly trained staff, even with the situation explained in my ticket description, said nothing more than "With this model, we can not do an advance replacement, only a standard replacement". They're literally trying to make my life hell. Never again will I buy an Antec product, because even when they do try to "fix" things, they just waste my time. I'd recommend you steer completely clear of anything with Antec's name on it as well.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

I'm sorry you've had to go through several hoops and we know it wasn't fun for you. We looked into the issue and are able to fulfill the RMA after delving into logistics. If you email us again at VIP@antec.com with your specific case number, we'll get this all sorted out and have your RMA fulfilled. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: Runs TWO (2) 6850 graphic cars in Crossfire w/ ease while powering the rest of the system. It has been the perfect buy would definitely get one again. It is Crossfire ready for sure, even had it running Xfire with a 980 overclocked to 4.2 on air (small case originally, had to change that).

Cons: If don't have a power cord laying around (I didn't), you'll have to purchase one (or find someone with an extra). Doesn't really fit the echo part because when you buy from another source, all the packaging (usually plastic) from the power cord alone is going to be more waste than it would have been to package it WITH the PSU... unless Antec is pulling the whole 'well WE were being wasteful' so they can blame someone else.

Other Thoughts: My original system on this PSU:
Phenom II x4 980BE (OC) 4.2 on Asrock 970 Extreme3 mobo
Gigabyte fac' OC 6850
90 GB Corsair Force GT
2TB Seagate (newer model 1TB per disk)
Sentey Classic Blackbox with 7 120mm fans
ASUS optical DVD-RW

What it powers now:
Phenom II x6 1090T 3.2 on Asrock 990FX Extreme3 mobo
2 x Gigabyte Fac' OC 6850s in Crossfire
90 GB Corsair Force GT
2TB Seagate (newer model 1TB per disk)
Rosewill THOR Full tower with 4 large stock fans plus 1 120
ASUS Optical DVD-RW

When I was searching for a psu I kept hearing, get 1000w if you want to Crossfire or OC, get this [insert whatever] because 700w or less isn't enough. All in all this one does the job perfectly. I'm glad I made my own decision. Had a friend get a suggested 1000W supply that is now dying or so and seems to overload. Its more about the make, strength, and longevity at times.

5 out of 5 eggssuper quiet

Pros: big fan, super quiet, fits well in my HEC Blitz Black Steel Edition ATX Mid Tower.

Cons: can't think of any.. it's not modular?

Other Thoughts: I read that you can have the PSU fan facing into or out of the case. I have it facing into the case, even though the case does include a vent for the fan.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly compact and quiet

Pros: Cheap shell shocker PSU. It is 5.5" long compared to the usual 5.9" on other PSUs of this wattage. You'll be able to fit it into a smaller case with fewer space problems and support plenty of hard drives or a powerful video card.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I wish it was modular. Oh well.
