1 out of 5 eggsWent Bad

Pros: similar installation as all other supplies

Cons: Blew after moderate use

Other Thoughts: I cannot buy this brand again, as I need a reliable power supply. This power supply was larger than I needed, so it was not overloaded. My case has extra cooling fans, and it sits in the open allowing more than adequate ventilation, so it was not allowed to overheat. My only guess is that the unit must have had poor components within.

5 out of 5 eggsWish I would have bought a modular...

Pros: Has handled everything I've thrown at it. (SLI superclocked 670s, i5-3570k OC 4.8) and I've had no issues with it yet.

TONS of cables.

Cons: TONS of cables. But that's what a non modular PS is.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the buck

Pros: Cheap (got it for 79$ at the time). It has done an awesome job at providing my computer with all the juice it needed. I have tried single gpu and sli configurations and never had a problem. It's been working like a charm and very silent.

Cons: Sadly it is not modular. However for the price it's to be expected.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Quiet, standard design for psu, gives enough power, haswell, 80 plus..this is all in the product description.

No problems which is all I can really ask.

Cons: Not fully modular but I knew that going into it so it's not really a con just a comment. I always have a few empty drive bays or somewhere to tuck those cables and give the box a clean look while maximizing airflow. Make sure you have room for those extra cables if using a smaller case (standard atx should be no problem).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy!

Pros: I now own two of these. The first one I purchased a couple of years ago for an inexpensive i3 build with a single discreet video card, HDD, etc. The most recent one purchased is powering a new 4th Gen i5 Haswell with no problems. Includes all of the connections you would ever need.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Without being modular there are alot of extra wires stuffed into the bottom of the case but as I am not putting the PC on display it is not a concern. Note: Some may find this issue to be a CON but I knew what I was buying excellent power supply at a great price.

2 out of 5 eggsAddendum to previous review

Pros: Standard replacement is still available and it does have a 5 year warranty.

Cons: Advanced replacement is pricey if you need next day shipping...

I needed a replacement power supply and pretty quickly I might add. So I opted for advanced replacement, which I promptly cancelled after a bit of analysis. Here's why...

For an advanced replacement, they are going to charge my credit card their online store price for the HCG-750 plus whatever the cost of ground shipping is. Upon receipt of my RMA unit, they would credit me the amount they charged. Well I needed the power supply sooner than that. I use my computer for work when I am on call and I go on call tomorrow and the drive failed two days prior.

So it was also noted that I have the option of paying the cost for faster shipping, but they would only reimburse me for the ground shipping rate when they received my RMA unit. I tried calling into the customer service line, but I couldn't get through for them to charge my card. That is to say I was inpatient and didn't feel like holding any longer. Having things shipped often and being suspicious of what the next day rate might be, I checked at their online store and I'm glad I did.

First of all the HCG-750 was 149.95 dollars at their online store. So 50 dollars more than it is here on Newegg. It also wasn't in stock. So to check what the prices for shipping were, I added the HCG-620, which arguably weighs generally the same or less and should be about the same size to ship. Shipping rates: Ground - 18.24, UPS 3 Day Select - 51.10, UPS 2nd Day Air - 80.25, UPS Next Day Air - 141.86. So that would have been approximately 291 dollars. After the credit back to my account after they received my RMA, I would have been out 123 dollars plus the initial ground shipping rate to get the RMA unit back.

Given the total cost, I couldn't justify advanced replacement from Antec any longer. I ordered another power supply, a Corsair Enthusiast 650 power supply, from another online retailer with whom I had a small credit and a very cheap next day option. Even without the credit AND paying the ground shipping rate to send the RMA back, I still came out way cheaper than what it would have cost me for just their next day shipping rate. I also now have a spare power supply to boot, once I get my RMA back.

Other Thoughts: This is not a slight against Antec, still love their green series power supplies and their cases are pure gold. Can't say I'm fond of this HCG series. What I don't understand is why their shipping rates are so high. Just be sure you properly review these return processes and warranties before paying any outrageous costs.

3 out of 5 eggsLasted just under 2 years.

Pros: Plenty of connectors. Didn't have a huge load on my system so can't say much about it being able to handle anything super tough. Red color is cool.

Cons: Burnt out at under two years.

Other Thoughts: Smelled a faint burning electrical smell and sent wife into panic thinking there might have been an electrical fire. Turns out it was just the PSU burning out. Funny thing was the system was still powered up at the time, albeit in sleep mode. Doesn't make much sense other than maybe a bad apple that had a longer life due to light load duty.

I've used Antec products for a while. This has a 5 year warranty, so I don't think replacement will be an issue. I've submitted a ticket to Antec support and asked for an advanced replacement. Cool feature by the way, they will send you a replacement in advance of your return. You just have to let them charge your card, which they refund upon receipt of your original part. I'm waiting on them to contact me now for the info they need.
