3 out of 5 eggsWorks great for couple of Months

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: good price on a deal, quiet, good stable power

Cons: Fan started to make noise after only 6 months of light use

Other Thoughts: the Antec 850m Bronze cert PUS works great for the first couple of months... recently it started to making weird noises from the fan. Not loud enough for me to bother me just yet, but still concerning.

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: 850 Watt Power Supply Glows blue.
LED off/on switch
Great power supply as long as it works.

Cons: Worked great for 1.5 month. Fan started to spin at full speed non stop.

Other Thoughts: Should of done more research.
I am getting platinum PWS, don't want to bother with this one anymore, too many bad reviews...
I used other Antec Power Supplies in the past and they lasted.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This is a great high wattage PSU that gives my build everything it needs with room for an extra GTX 970! The white LED's are fantastic in my Corsair 760t with the all white and black theme going on. Also the Modular feature is FANTASTIC. It is a no-brainer to go Modular if its in the budget!

Cons: It can be loud with a bit of a ring to it. The psu is about 2 or so feet away from my head. But i choose to have my Tower on my desk so i can gaze upon the sexyness. Builds aren't cheap and if im throwing down about a dozen benjamins for a complete rig, i better be able to look at how gorgeous it is at all times. So this con is a personal con.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend to a friend for aesthetics in mind as well as efficiency! Modular psu is definitely the way to go.

1 out of 5 eggsFried my computer

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Nice modular cable design. Has plenty of extra cables and configurations for what you need. Fit to all of my components, even in my large full tower case. SATA power was a stretch though.

Cons: Has appeared to fry at least my motherboard. Will need to thoroughly test all components.

I saw a brief bright flicker and heard a subtle pop as my computer died while in the middle of playing a game.

I have removed the Antec power supply, inserted another one that I know to work, and took out one of my graphics cards, leaving the single 280x inside. The machine still fails to power on even when hitting my on-motherboard power switch. Frazzled.

Setup: i5-3570k OC to 4.3Ghz boost. stock voltages, well cooled
8 gb DDR3 1600 @1.5v
ASrock Z77 extreme4 motherboard
1 SSD and 3 other HDD
1 optical drive
Radeon 280X X2 in crossfire
and this 850W 'Crossfire Certified' power supply

This failure occured when playing a game and outputting to a TV via HDMI (using a displayport active adapter). This was apparently too much for this power supply, and it decided to self destruct.

I had read at least one review of someone using this with dual 290's. And the fact that this has two dedicated 12v rails for the video cards made me confident in the purchase.
However this has failed spectacularly, not only taking itself out, but the rest of my computer.

0/10, will not be recommending anything outside of cases for Antec's products.

Other Thoughts: Have learned my lesson and will go all out when trying to satisfy my rigs power needs from now on. However I feel 850W should have been more than enough with my configuration. And even if it wasn't, to fry my other components speaks of a probable defect in my product at least.

1 out of 5 eggsAntec RMA Victim

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: The power supply itself receives 4 stars; the one star rating is for my RMA experience with Antec, see below for details. The PSU falls just short of 80+ Silver status, and ran a Tri-Crossfire array wonderfully for almost 8 months. While it functioned, and before it fried my 3 R9-270's, I had almost no complaints about the PSU.

Cons: PSU is not the quietest, and does get loud/expells heat under load. PSU also employs more than one rail, so in heavy load applications, you have to carefully plan out what the PSU will power via which connector. My PSU died after 8 months of running a Tri-Crossfire, then died and took out my three R9-270's with it.

Other Thoughts: Arrived home one day to find my system shut down; it runs 24/7, so highly unusual for it to be shut off. System protected by APC SMC1500 UPS. Inspection inside the case revealed an oily substance under where the PSU had been installed, and my 3 HIS R9-270's were no longer functional when placed into a back-up rig and tested extensively. Began testing PSU, which failed to power on different bench rigs, failed multiple "paper-clip" tests, so qualified as toasted to me. Opened RMA for PSU three months ago, along with asking renumeration for the 3 destroyed GPU's. After much arguing, Antec declined request for GPU's, but accepted PSU back. Ended up getting replacements from HIS directly for GPU's; nice way to avoid any responsibility, Antec. Antec RMA department has now had my PSU in their possesion for more than a month, and have thus far ignored my repeated pleas to send a new replacement unit to me. The RMA "supervisor" I have had the misfortune of dealing with, Patrick Solamo, takes upwards of 8, 9, 10 days to respond to my communications, blaming the frequent LANFests he attends. I am now forced to obtain legal counsel in order to secure my rightful replacement for this product. I have been a faithful and frequent Antec customer since the late 1990's, but this ridiculous ordeal has lost them a customer for life, and I will go out of my way to advise my clients to avoid Antec as well. Had never had a problem with any Antec products until this PSU, and if the RMA process was in any way reasonable, I would still consider them in the future, but this experience has eliminated that possibility forever.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Decent price for an 850W I spent $110.00
Quiet.
Modular.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have a few very old Antec PS that still work from over 10 years ago but they are nothing near 750 or 850W. It depends what is on sale whether its Corsair or Antec spending the extra money for piece of mind is well worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsJust What the Doctor Ordered

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I am a helpless repeat customer if a product works like it should. I am also just as staunch against a product when it does NOT work like it should. I have always loved Antec PSU's. They have always performed as advertised for me with no problems. I bought this 850w PSU not because I needed it now, but for potential upgrades in the future (read: SLI'd 680's, 780's or -gasp- 880's!)

Cons: REALLY grasping for straws here... The internal light is white instead of blue. My rig has blue lighting.

Other Thoughts: With the wattage requirements for VGA's going down, required wattage from PSU's does as well. I know some peeps go for the 1200 watt units, but I'm not running multiple hard drives, external USB devices, etc. This Antec 850 is plenty to power anything I intend to run on my rig.
