5 out of 5 eggsBuilt like a tank!

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: The build quality of the power supply is exceptional and rather appealing cosmetically as well. This power supply serves its purpose nicely.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I was a bit disappointed not to have a power cable option that ended with a SATA connection versus the Molex connection. A cable option without a Molex all together would of been nice. This required me to bend back the Molex connection in my wiring to hide it, as it was not needed. Another thought is the option for the LED lighting is nice touch , but offering a color selection switch for the LED lighting would of been spectacular. The white LED lighting was not appealing in my personal build, and was just left turned off.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall good power supply

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: For the price it was a good power supply purchase. Modular connectors, 2nd CPU 8pin connector option. Sufficient power to run most 2 / some 3 way SLI although I wasn't using for this build.

Cables are shrouded AND painted all black on one side of the wires for clean dark look cases. Not important to me, but I would imagine people looking to build neon tricked out cases would enjoy.

Cons: The 4 pin molex / 15 pin SATA power modular connectors all share a single 12v rail. (-1 egg)

Only one cable with all 4 pin molex cables, SATA power cables include one 4 pin molex at the end of the cable. Typical of most current day power supplies. (so no egg lost)

Other Thoughts: I wish vendors would give more modular option for the 12v rails for systems which may be heavy with hard drives rather than video cards. Figure out a way to make modular cables which could be used for both PCIe cards OR hard drive power cables. I could care less if the cable end on the PSU side is 5, 8 or even 10 pins, but if it had the option to be whatever I wanted and could then decide how I want to use my 12v rails I would be happy. Not a deciding factor of course since the market is all pretty standard on this aspect I just wanted to vent.

1 out of 5 eggs#Fail

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Delivered more than enough power....when it worked

Cons: Less than 3 months from purchase, the power supply failed. In order to get it to boot, I have to unplug the power supply, flip the switch off, plug it back in, switch on, it will turn on. But after a few minutes where the PC boots up normally, it will randomly shut down completely. It will not boot at all and the motherboard does not give any error codes. No blue screen or freezes, just complete power down. CPU temperature is normal. I also ran a test of the ram sticks to make sure they weren't causing any problems--no errors. This tells me the issue is the power supply.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great for couple of Months

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: good price on a deal, quiet, good stable power

Cons: Fan started to make noise after only 6 months of light use

Other Thoughts: the Antec 850m Bronze cert PUS works great for the first couple of months... recently it started to making weird noises from the fan. Not loud enough for me to bother me just yet, but still concerning.

Pros: 850 Watt Power Supply Glows blue.

Great power supply as long as it works.

Cons: Worked great for 1.5 month. Fan started to spin at full speed non stop.

Other Thoughts: Should of done more research.
I am getting platinum PWS, don't want to bother with this one anymore, too many bad reviews...
I used other Antec Power Supplies in the past and they lasted.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This is a great high wattage PSU that gives my build everything it needs with room for an extra GTX 970! The white LED's are fantastic in my Corsair 760t with the all white and black theme going on. Also the Modular feature is FANTASTIC. It is a no-brainer to go Modular if its in the budget!

Cons: It can be loud with a bit of a ring to it. The psu is about 2 or so feet away from my head. But i choose to have my Tower on my desk so i can gaze upon the sexyness. Builds aren't cheap and if im throwing down about a dozen benjamins for a complete rig, i better be able to look at how gorgeous it is at all times. So this con is a personal con.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend to a friend for aesthetics in mind as well as efficiency! Modular psu is definitely the way to go.

1 out of 5 eggsFried my computer

This review is from: Antec HCG M HCG-850M 850W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Nice modular cable design. Has plenty of extra cables and configurations for what you need. Fit to all of my components, even in my large full tower case. SATA power was a stretch though.

Cons: Has appeared to fry at least my motherboard. Will need to thoroughly test all components.

I saw a brief bright flicker and heard a subtle pop as my computer died while in the middle of playing a game.

I have removed the Antec power supply, inserted another one that I know to work, and took out one of my graphics cards, leaving the single 280x inside. The machine still fails to power on even when hitting my on-motherboard power switch. Frazzled.

Setup: i5-3570k OC to 4.3Ghz boost. stock voltages, well cooled
8 gb DDR3 1600 @1.5v
ASrock Z77 extreme4 motherboard
1 SSD and 3 other HDD
1 optical drive
Radeon 280X X2 in crossfire
and this 850W 'Crossfire Certified' power supply

This failure occured when playing a game and outputting to a TV via HDMI (using a displayport active adapter). This was apparently too much for this power supply, and it decided to self destruct.

I had read at least one review of someone using this with dual 290's. And the fact that this has two dedicated 12v rails for the video cards made me confident in the purchase.
However this has failed spectacularly, not only taking itself out, but the rest of my computer.

0/10, will not be recommending anything outside of cases for Antec's products.

Other Thoughts: Have learned my lesson and will go all out when trying to satisfy my rigs power needs from now on. However I feel 850W should have been more than enough with my configuration. And even if it wasn't, to fry my other components speaks of a probable defect in my product at least.
