3 out of 5 eggsRMA Came Back Fine

Pros: covers both SaTa and EDI Laptop/Notebook Drives

Cons: Not so sure about the controller, its a lottle slow and my computer tells me its not USB 2.0

Other Thoughts: Great tool for Techs trying to save data from a dead laptop/notebook but does not deliver performance for an external driver

5 out of 5 eggsDon't NEED to use the extra "power" cable

Pros: Nice size and nifty L.E.D lights. One to let you know it's on and the other to let you know its read/write/busy. Super fast and easy assembly with nice included screwdriver that works with large hands. You do not have to use both the usb and usb power cable to run IDE or SATA.

Cons: Use a lighter than hand tight screw job because you can easily break the plastic on the casing when securing the two screws to the case completing the assembly.
Not really a bad thing, but it can be sad cracking your new enclosure over-tightening.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid!

Pros: Works with my 1TB samsung.

Works in all the OS's I've tried- MS/WinXP, Win7, etc, BSD, Linux distros, special tools- everything works.

I have four of these now, and two of the simple SATA one's. They all rock. I've had about 20 external 2.5" cases and I love these- solid, simple and durable.

I like this one on par with the top 3-5x costing cases. My other ones haven't survived, these are still like new.

9/10

Cons: Average speeds- you'll be hard pressed to find anything anywhere that does better. It's worth the trade.

Doesn't look like they're including the nice cases. I've gotten some of these with a zip-up case that will hold two AND the cords... for $10-!!!

Other Thoughts: 1. If your drive is clicking, the hard drive itself the problem- your drive is a power hog and you need to plug in the extra USB to the computer. That is your hard drive problem, not the enclosure.
2. If it's too loose inside, put some electrical tape at the end, OR fold some tinfoil and put it on TOP of the hard drive- to give it more contact with the drive case (and help remove heat!). This esp. applies to the non-IDE/SATA combos (no inner board that the drive rests on).
3. Get two.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Just got this in the mail today. Very nice design with LED indicator. I was able to recover some data on an old IDE HDD that I thought was shot. Very easy to setup and use.

Cons: It seems a little loose in the case but nothing too severe. Considering the price, this is not worth dropping an egg.

Other Thoughts: For the price, a very nice enclosure to make use of those old laptop hard drives just laying around.

5 out of 5 eggsBest EXT enclosure I've used.

Pros: - NO CABLES NEEDED INSIDE!!! Just slide the drive into port.
- Can be powered with just main cable or with extra cable.
- Fits both SATA and IDE drives.
- Looks nice.
- Easy to swap drives.
- Comes with travel case.
- Blue power LED and Red activity LED (But shows as purple)
- Comes with very high quality USB cable.
- Uses Mini-B usb cables (They are easy to find)
- Cheap

Cons: - Absolutely None

Other Thoughts: Really, there's no reason to not buy this, even if you don't need it right away. Because the LEDs are so close when there is activity, the light actually flashes a vibrant and abstract purple. which is fairly cool.

4 out of 5 eggsCouldn't Be Happier

Works great with 320 GB drive (not sure if higher)

Cons: None from the case but it took a little time to get the drive to be recognized by the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsCool device

Pros: Very handy tool to have if you're repairing a lot of laptops. Detected & formatted both my old 40gb IDE drive and a 250gb SATA drive just fine. Data transfer rates are decent. Has both power and disk activity LED's that can be seen across a well lit room. Looks nice with it's aluminum casing. Can't beat the value for 15 bucks.

Cons: The PCB and all the connectors are a tad flimsy, but not a big deal if you're careful. Be sure not to bang it around, there isn't any insulation against shock on the interior. None of these are a just cause to make me want to subtract an egg, since it's only 15 bucks, not 50+. I wasn't expecting a perfect unit, just a functional one.

Other Thoughts: The hard drive screws weren't a perfect fit for me, but as long as you get at least 2 of them on there correctly, the hard drive will stay snug. The unit I received had a glossy black aluminum finish, not silver/gray as pictured. But I'm alright with it. It's still pretty to look at.
