3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I did not buy mine from Newegg. Just thought I would give a review here for those interested.

For the most part the device does what I need.

Cons: Can be a bit flaky. If you put an avi on it that it does not like the way it was encoded the device will sit a searching forever. So do not load more than a few files at a time and check to see if the device balks at one of them.

Comes set to PAL. Hard to change to NTSC whit my TV screen flipping like mad until set to NTSC.

I have read some do not like the lack of folder view. For viewing folder view just press the yellow folder button on the remote.

Do not put more than 43 files into one folder or the device will also hang on searching on startup.

The fan can be very noisy. To fix this I removed the fan, took off the sticker, put thermal grease in the opening and replaced the sticker. Mine is now almost silent.

2 out of 5 eggsIt's ok

Pros: It plays ISO files.

Cons: Won't play video_ts files. It's a little flakey in general. The gui interface is aweful, like it belongs in the late 80's or early 90's. Some larger movie files like movies over 2 hours seem to pause for no reason and then start again later, sometimes much later. Doesn't put out 1080P just 1080i

Other Thoughts: I'm building an HTPC now that will do what I was hopeing this would have done as far as playing movies. Although it does work with some stuff, it's interface is very slow and clumsy.

3 out of 5 eggsSomehow works

Pros: This apparatus enables you to see some types of video files, hear audios and I haven’t been able to see pictures. I have used it with up to 1TB hard drives (haven’t tried more).

Cons: It is a very faulty system, and this is what I have discovered: 1. I have not been able to use the Esata connection, as it will always freeze the computers when trying to transfer data, so my recommendation is to use solely USB. WHEN YOU USE IT WITH OTHER SYSTEM THAN THE COMPUTER BE AWARE THAT: 2. You must have less than 40 files per folder, so that the system will be able to initialize and access the files, otherwise if you get to initialize, you will not see the files in the folder. 3. Be aware that the very large “.avi” type files (+/- 2GB) won’t be played. 4. Do not use very large file names, because it will not recognize it or will just not initialize. 5. For some reason that I still do not understand, if you use a backup program, it will not initialize, but if you just copy and paste the same exact files, it will most probably work. 6. To change languages, it’s sometimes impossible and to change subtitles don’t even think of it.

Other Thoughts: 7. The manual will tell you just the very basic things, like connections, and the menu set. 8. If you use special characters like accents, that letter will appear in the menu as a blank space. 9. The power connector is faulty in mine and in some others too, as I have read.
If you by one of these things, be very patient, as you will have to work it out with trial and error. I hope these experiences work in your favor and somehow help you use it. Best regards.

1 out of 5 eggsBe carefull

Pros: Good extarnal HDD with Samsung 1.5 TB installed in it. Read/write ok any files. And you can see any files on TV trough a notebook.

Cons: 1. It doesn`t work as a mediaplayer even with HDD 2x750 MB partitioned. There is "no disc". At all. For 1 hour. Only Masscool screensaver on TV. S-video cable is used.
2. No answer from tech support. At least they could say smth like Thanks for mailing us whatever. But it seems like We don`t care. Newegg`s guy says "I`m not good in it. Try to call them or see forums". Great. I did by the way.

Other Thoughts: Now I have a problem for my money. I`d like to have such a device. But what should I do? Try to make it work? I`m not a fan of wasting time. To find and try HDD less than 1 TB? OK I`ll do it. To buy a new HDD player? Who knows what will be the next great device?

5 out of 5 eggsVersatile media player

Pros: This unit was easy to connect and use. The HDMI connection my TV set was a snap. Contrary to other reviews, most people will not be connecting the media player to a computer. I use this system directly with a television set and I believe it was designed to be utilized in this manner. The video playback has been great and the player supports all the formats that I have needed to use.

Cons: Isn't offered in different colors to match non-black TVs.

Other Thoughts: I think this unit is a great value for the features. Its hard to find a comparable product.

1 out of 5 eggsnot what advertised, cheap and defective

Pros: looked great on paper, installed fine, decent design

Cons: could not get the thing to show up in windows (vista) some people complain it doesn't even hold a full TB as advertised, though I wouldn't know since I cant even find it in windows (my computer or diskmanagement)

Other Thoughts: what really makes this a horrible buy is that every function you can perform on the device relies on this horribly cheap remote included with it.. I mean without this thing your up the creek and mine was dead on arrival, I can use the buttons on the enclosure to navigate into a folder, but cant get back out, as theres no button for it, except on the remote!

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Media Player

Pros: 1. Solid Quality Unit - I'm impressed, this unit is made with solid quality material case, instead of cheap plastic compound.

2. Easy Installation - I was a bit skeptical about using my Seagate 1TB hard drive with this unit, but to my surprise, the installation and unit setup is a snap! It took me about 8 minutes to install my pre-formatted Seagate, turn the unit on, and complete my setup! Wow!

3. Multiple File Format Support - So far this unit reads all my downloaded media files, mostly dvix, avi and mpg, many many mp3, and all my digital photos collection.

4. Stable, Smooth and Stunning Picture Quality - I played all my 3 favorite movies in straight row, and found the unit very stable and smooth. I've set the resolution to 1080i, and the picture quality is just stunning at my 42 inch Panasonic 1080p plasma via HDMI!

5. Multiple Connectors and Handy Remote. And I like the front panel button access and blue interface, very cool and practical.

Cons: 1. Lack of 1080p support for my plasma...but I'm satisfied with the 1080i picture quality on my plasma TV, and don't really think my eyes can tell the difference.
2. No LAN port for network access...however, the eSata port is good enough for me for fast/easy file transfer.

Other Thoughts: Well, I've to admit that I'm a bit skeptical at first when buying this Masscool 1369S media player...but, I trusted Newegg's products and services, so I went ahead.

I'm very glad I did, because I've done my research online and so far this media player has all the features, connectors, and quality that I've been looking for, all with a price tag of under $100!

Overall, I love this little unit, it comes in very handy to me, and it's stable, solid and fun to use!

3 out of 5 eggsSounds Great ...

Pros: 1. Has a lot of different hookups (HDMI, eSata, etc)
2. Recognizes lots of formats for video, pics, and music.
3. Compact.

Cons: 1. No customer service (sent 2 different emails with no response could not get threw via phone)
2. No comprehensive manual or forum for help

Other Thoughts: Wish I could get this thing to work. Recognizes my hard drive, but not the files I have on it (and yes they are in the correct formats). I can see the files when I have it connected via USB and/or eSata, but not on the masscool device. Still a working progress. If anyone have any suggestions let me know.
