1 out of 5 eggsKilled my HDD

Pros: Easy assembly and transferred 50-60Mbps

Cons: Flawed design regarding grounding fried the HDD in the enclosure from a static discharge. The HDD sits in two plastic ends and is expected to "float" in the middle without touching the metal casing. I was sitting at my desk one day and a static discharge from my hand tripped the connection to the drive. After that my HDD was transferring at random speeds and it wasn't defragmenting well. I took it out of the enclosure and stuck into my PC for testing. It failed the HDD testing. Luckily the HDD is under warranty but the enclosure was a waste of money.

This was a replacement to an original DOA. Even on this one you needed to force the USB cable into the cutout on the back, and the SATA connection on the circuit board was bent downward making it difficult to initially install. I ended up stressing the connection until it was straighter.

Other Thoughts: Save your time and spend your money on...

5 out of 5 eggsUtter junk

Pros: None

Cons: I try not to write negative reviews, however, this is garbage.
I have bought many mass-cool products and they have always turned out good, but this one is useless.

As soon as I stuck the hard drive in the rear peice popped off and would not go back on. The HDD does not fit in at all.

Other Thoughts: Buy another brand, I seen some negs before I purchased it and figured maybe user error, however, my seagate 2.5, WD 2.5 or my Toshiba 2.5 will not fit in properly.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enclosure

Pros: - Heat dissipation from the metal case is nice
- Transfer speeds are good
- Comes with cable, pouch, installation hardware

Cons: - Doesn't spin the drive down when "properly removed." Gotta dock an egg because it's hard on the drive.

4 out of 5 eggsAluminum???

Pros: Works flawlessly, no disconnects

Cons: Not certain where they found "Aluminum" - it is a very thin fragile paper like plastic - NOT FOR TRAVEL!

1 out of 5 eggsFirst Masscool product I've bought that sucks

Pros: Pretty rigid, solid enclosure... Slimline, usable USB 3.0 cable that works with my SIIG 2.5in USB 3.0 enclosure. Solid USB 2.0 speeds, around 26 MB/sec. Uses the AS2105 Chipset

Cons: Cheap construction, the USB 3.0 connector connecting to the enclosure housing was 2 mm too short, so you had to angle the USB cable at a 30 deg angle for the cable to connect. When i plug this into a USB 2 port, instant recognition and ready to go but USB 3.0 connection failures... Have had three different computers fail connecting with the enclosure, yes it was plugged into the Blue USB 3.0 ports, and yes they were all driven my NEC/Renesas chipsets with the latest drivers driving them, Two were windows 8 x64, one was a Windows 7 x64 computer. Tried a few different hard drives, still Fail... Not worth the RMA, cost more to replace it...

Other Thoughts: This is my first masscool product to fail me, I find it so annoying that when ever this enclosure was plugged into my Asus computer, Two HP laptops and a dell 's USB 3.0 port, the systems wont even detect the Hard Drive. Yet when plugged into the USB 2.0 ports the enclosure works perfectly... At first i though it was a power problem, so i hooked it up to a USB 3.0 Powered hub... Still no connections... So i tried a USB 3.0 Y cable from my SIIG enclosure, still no connection... Yet the cable for the Masscool enlosure works great for my SIIG enclosure(AS1051 Chipset) on all computers with any of my USB 3.0 ports and reach speeds up to 100MB/sec so i know its not my computers.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Pretty cheap and does what its advertised to do. I'm currently using it for Time Machine back up on Mac. Really good speed from the USB 3.0. I'll update when I've had it a bit longer

Cons: It feels cheap. I might have been spoiled by Icy Docks 3.5 ALL Aluminum and I stress ALL. I expected the whole enclosure to be aluminum and better crafted, but the ends of it are plastic. If you're heavy handed, luckily I'm not, be careful not to break anything when taking it apart and putting it together. When I tried to screw in one of the screws I felt like I was close to stripping the screw, which I absolutely hate. So the screw is not as flush as it should be.

Other Thoughts: Overall like I said it does what it says, but I'll continue to look for an ALL Aluminum one with better craftsmanship.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: very good product. The drive is recognized in less than a second using a toshiba 640GB drive that was in my laptop before I switched to ssd. USB 3.0 is fast enough for of all of what I need it to do including high quality audio (FLAC) and big HD video (MKV) video playback

Cons: sadly I lost the screws but really none so far

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3 External

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Dead on arrival!

Other Thoughts: Since I left the country the day I got this, I didn't get the chance to test it before I left and could not return it.

5 out of 5 eggsAfter 2 years I am back to buy more these

Pros: Understated enclosure. Somber, plain look, etc. but I praise Masscool for this model (unlike some of their other stuff). Too busy to write much, just one word:
Type "A"/fullsized USB3.0 connector - NOT FLIMSY JUNK "Micro-USB3.0" offered by 90%+ of other manufacturers

Cons: None.
I only wish for "Masscool" to issue SATA III (6Gbps) upgrade for this model, to utilize recent 6Gbps SSD's, though no consumer/2.5" HDD's (mechanical) on the market exceed SATAII/3Gbps (at least not that normal people can afford).
SATAIII would increase cost but I'd pay no prob. to use SSD.

Other Thoughts: If your HDD/SSD is thin enough to rattle inside case, since case is designed to accomodite various 2.5"-formfactor drives, including thick 1TB, I'd add afew layers of aluminum foil from kitchen (or food store), between drive & case's wall (NOT rubber/etc. which would not conduct heat away)

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Super small and my 2.5" drive fit perfectly. USB 3.0 is superfast

Cons: Although it didn't appear as though the packaging had been opened before, the 2 screws were missing that hold the drive in.

Other Thoughts: I sent an email to MassCool's tech support asking if there is a way to get the screws without having to RMA. Really not worth sending it back for a couple screws that should be less than a buck. Fingers crossed
