Vantec NexStar CX 3.5" SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure - Model NST-300S2-BK

Pros: It really is plug and play. Placed the SATA drive from my old PC in it, plugged it in, and Windows 8 recognized it with no issue. Case is well build, drive seems stable. Quiet as well.

Cons: About the only con is the eye-searing blue LED.

Pros: Easy to install, good-looking unit. I had it up and running with a WD 3TB hard drive in 10 minutes without a hitch.

Cons: None as yet.

Pros: Bought more as these worked well in the past. Claimed 3TB compatibilty.

Cons: My 3TB drive got hosed when connected. I read flyer that came with the enclosure and it says 1.5TB MAX. Wish I read that first. Bye bye data!

Pros: Great Case. Looks clean and is pretty compact. Connected my Hdd and spun up immediately. Works exactly how I wanted it to.

Cons: Not really a con, but the LED light on the front is ridiculously bright.

Other Thoughts: Had no problems with a bad USB cable like many other have reported.

Pros: Pretty good little hard drive, simple to install and never had any over heating issues

Cons: Expected a longer life from it, it died after 1.5 years.

Pros: Good enclosure, easy to assemble. USB cable supplied with enclosure does not work. After I assembled this unit, Win 7 refused to recognized hard drive. I have read that this unit often supplied with bad USB cable, so I used cable I had, Win 7 recognized hard drive and it works fine. I have tested original USB cable on other USB ports and it is a dud. I have removed two stars, because it is a known issue and Vantec should have fixed it by now.

Cons: Bad USB cable. It is a known issue, Vantec need to step up and fix it. I have asked for RMA for cable from Vantec. They want me send cable back to them, this is waste of my money. Who knows if the will replace it with good USB cable.

Other Thoughts: Enclosure stays warm, but not hot. Vantec makes good enclosures, but not addressing USB cable issue is just dumb.

Pros: Cheap.
Works good.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have bought over 5 Vantec laptop enclosures.

Pros: I have brought quite a few of these for customers over the course of at least a year and have had few failures. Generally and easy and reliable enclosure.

Cons: 3 cables in 3 boxes bad. replaced cable with one from my stock and it worked fine.

Pros: Great enclosure. Looks nice and runs well too.

Cons: The USB cable that came with mine was a dud. I plugged it into my Win7 machine and Windows said it couldn't recognize it, so my first through was drivers. After updating everything under the sun, it still didn't. Tried an old USB cable (talking about 10 years old) and it worked no problem. Was able to duplicate the issue on two comps, so I know it is a bad USB cable. USB cables cost about 99 cents, so no bid deal.

If you get yours and it Windows 7 won't recognize it, try swapping the USB cable before you do anything.

Other Thoughts: Runs warm, but not too warm. I wish ALL devices had a build in option to turn LED lights off. One LED can make a bedroom unsleepable.
