1 out of 5 eggsAfter 18 months, from so so to bad.

Pros: Price

Cons: -Weak power supply?

Other Thoughts: -Sporadic spontaneous drive disconnects.
-I had to buy another brand USB 3 hub which I have had for a year now and use both with a 2012 MacBook retina. The other brand USB 3 hub has worked fine without incident.

-After 12 months, the BluRay Drive ceased to work when plugged into the Vantec hub. Switched it to the other USB 3 hub and it works fine.
-After 18 months, my mouse plugged into the Vantec Hub via the keyboard, can't get enough power. I plug it into the other brand USB 3 hub and it works fine.

I have used Vantec enclosures for years with success so I bought this despite some bad reviews. This unit is bad and their quality control is spotty. I also bought a USB/eSATA dock from Vantec with a defective power button. Very disappointed with their QC in recent years though I have otherwise had success with their HD enclosures, of which I have had many over the past decade.

5 out of 5 eggsLove Vantec

Pros: 4 ports of USB3 goodness!

Transfer speeds unaffected by going through the hub.

Blue LED isn't drying my eyes out because it's of a normal brightness.

Cons: Very light and there is no built in way to mount it on a desk/wall.

I just used a couple small pieces of velcro to attach it to my desk.

Other Thoughts: I have a few different VANTEC USB devices for various purposes. All of them work very well and last a good while.

Price/Performance can't be beat.

5 out of 5 eggsWhy so angry?

Pros: I have not had any problems that the others have described below. Could be poor QC. Its been flawless for me so far.

Cons: Individual lights for each channel would be nice, such as to trouble inactive devices.

Other Thoughts: As stated, make sure that your USB3 drivers and Intel AHCI controller drivers (google Intel RST for your series mobo) are up to date

1 out of 5 eggsrubbish

Pros: none

Cons: not detectable when plugged into USB 3.0 port (windows 7_x64, EVGA x58 FTW3 mobo) after an hour of trying.
Detectable with USB 2.0 but the speed, as expectrted, was miserable - 20Mb/s.
Very dissapointing, will return iot tomorrow.

On the top of that it is bulky, with very stiff USB cable.

1 out of 5 eggsWindows 8

Pros: Small and compact. Works well with Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Cons: Does not work correctly with Windows 8. It does not get detected as an XHCI hub.

Other Thoughts: If you are planning to execute the USB Topology compatibility test for Windows 8 Logo, it will fail.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDetection issues with USB 3.0 devices

Pros: Detects USB 2.0 devices, detects USB 3.0 devices when hub is connected to USB 2.0 port

Cons: Another bulky wall adapter, can't detect Vantec's own CB-SATAU3 USB 3.0 sata adapter when hub is connected to USB 3.0 port, but can be detected if hub is connected to USB 2.0 port

Other Thoughts: If you insert the device very slowly and engage the power contacts before the signal contacts, the device can be detected, but seems to run in USB 2.0 mode.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, update all your drivers.

Pros: Works great, I just used an aftermarket cable with it instead of the included one (needed more length), and it has never failed me. USB 2.0, 1.1, and of course 3.0 thumb drives and HDD adapters have all worked flawlessly. Guess I'm a lucky one based on most of the other reviews. I also made sure I was on the latest drivers before installing the hub.

Cons: None so far. Didn't try the included cable so don't know if that is the issue with others.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: An update to my previous review. I replaced the USB 3.0 cable that came with the hub with a new one and now all the thumb drives I've tried are working, USB 2.0 as well. I guess I just got a defective cable with the hub. It's working great now, though!

Cons: n/a

1 out of 5 eggsEhh...

Pros: Compact size, feels sturdy.

Cons: - Hit or miss with detecting peripherals.
- Detected some items only after you booted with them while others only after you plugged them in after windows loaded
- While attempting to plug in usb speakers and realizing they weren't getting enough power from the hub, I plugged in the accompanying power cord resulting in a set of fried speakers and a dead hub. A fitting end to the several days long game of "Will this hub detect this item?"

Other Thoughts: I had a multi-drive usb 3.0 hard drive enclosure that this item would recognize maybe 1/4 of the time, even while recognizing other peripherals attached to it already. Considering the whole point of this purchase was to free up the sole usb 3.0 port on my laptop that was occupied by the enclosure for other usb 3.0 items, I consider this purchase a failure. Whether or not the fried hub was my fault on not, the fact that it failed in its mission to actually detect usb 3.0 peripherals is pushing me towards an alternate product to replace it.

2 out of 5 eggsMediocre

Pros: With a USB 3.0 thumb drive it works great, transfer rates are amazing.

Cons: As another reviewer pointed out, does NOT work with any USB 2.0 drives, even though the manufacturer's site claims it is backwards compatible back to USB 1.1. I've tried about 5 different USB 2.0 drives, none are even recognized when they are plugged into the hub

Other Thoughts: What is it with manufacturers these days insisting on installing LEDs that are so bright that I think they could be seen from the Moon?

It gets 2 eggs because USB 3.0 performance is what I expected. Would be nice to be able to use it with my other thumbdrives, though.
