Pros: Works fine with 2TB drives. If you bought an older model, you're sorry out of luck.

Cons: No support. Very rude customer service who don't care at all about their customers.

Other Thoughts: Have owned this $70 dock for about 3 years and never had a problem with any drives less than 3TB. Finally upgraded to a 3TB drive (when I bought it I remember it being advertised as supporting 3TB drives. Even on their website it claims to support 4TB drives!)

Upon insertion of my new 3TB drive it could not be recognized. I read around and saw that I probably needed a firmware upgrade. Called Vantec and was greeted by a very rude person who talked over me and pretended that I didn't know what I was talking about, which I do. He said that if it was newer they could update the firmware but because my serial number started with a 5 instead of a 6, no go. I told him, "so you're telling me that I have to get a new dock, just to access another TB of data?" and without blinking or concern for myself he said, "yes". No apologies or anything. Vantec owes their customers more than this. So if I had been lucky enough to buy a dock with a 6 serial number instead of a 5, I'd be covered? Absolute garbage!

Thanks for nothing, Vantec. I work in IT and will be advising all of my customers to stay as far away from this "company" as possible. They clearly have no interest in serving their customers.

I would give it no eggs, but 1 is the lowest you can go. You make a product, you should stand by it, especially for how expensive these run.

Pros: Worked great when I bought it from Newegg in April, 2012 and used it with 2TB drives.

Cons: Quit working in Sept., 2012. Drives won't spin up or mount. Put the drives in another external enclosure and they evidently are fried!
Contacted Vantec and they emailed that they would make a decision about sending me a RMA within 48 hrs. That was over a week ago and I have not received any further communication from them.

I don't blame Newegg. Newegg is always fantastic to deal with.

Right now I don't ever plan to buy another Vantec product.

Other Thoughts: I am really ticked off that the expensive dock is bad and has fried two 1TB drives

Pros: Great Idea and Perfect Design.

Cons: Un explainable slow! it dose not go any faster then USB port speeds even when using firewire 800. This is carp and its made from cheap plastic. My bottom line peace of junk.

Other Thoughts: This was fantastic to open and i really did want this to work out for me but.... its not fare to give this peace of junk any positive feed back when clearly its trash after opening it.

Pros: Transfers and connections all work well.

Cons: the blue LED light is blinding. Also, it's made of pretty cheap white plastic. feels really flimsy. Wish it felt more solid for $80.

Pros: Works with 3TB drives
FW800 for us mac users who still don't want to pay $1000 for a thunderbolt drive.

Cons: Why must you blind us Vantec with the ridiculously bright blue leds on the front of this unit.

Other Thoughts: Just wanted to say that I bought this drive for my 3TB bare drives and it works great with them so the problem described before is no longer valid.

Pros: Not too loud, very easy to operate, quick to swap HDD, comes w/ all the cables, HDD stays cool

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I did a lot of research to look for options for an off-site backup of all my photos/videos, and decided to give this Vantec docking station a try. It has the faster firewire 800 connection, since Macs only have USB 2.0 (not 3.0) and there aren't many docking stations that support thunderbolt. I paired it with a WD Green Caviar 2TB drive (also bought from Newegg via WD Elements external drive), was able to transfer 100 gigs of data in just over 30 mins. I've previously owned Vantec enclosures with no reliability concerns thus far, so I expect this one to last as well.

Pros: Nice unit - very light. Ships with good set of cables including FW 800-400 adapter cable and eSata bracket for PC. It did the trick for backing up my 27" iMac with Lion. Supposed to work with 3.0TB drives, but... (read on)

Cons: Newegg apparently ships an older unit that does not work with 3.0 or greater drives, even though it is advertised as such. It requires replacement... (read on)

Other Thoughts: To Vantec's credit they will replace it for free. Vantec online RMA process requires return at owner's expense. For me that was an additional $10.50 USPS. If you call tech support they will send you a return label - but only if you call. The rep was very accommodating.

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Worked for a day. Second day powered it up and it worked for 5 minutes, disconnected itself, hasn't worked since. I'll get an RMA but now I just don't trust this brand or model.

Pros: Unit wouldn't work with 3tB drives, called tech support and they sent me a new, firmware upgraded version with free return package for the unit I had bought.
Great to have FW800 to backup large files quickly !

Cons: Wish the activity light would blink every time it transfers any data, it seems to only do so sporadically..
