3 out of 5 eggsMixed feelings

Pros: Convenient and fast.

Cons: USB power issues? In my original config (no hub) I had Wacom tablet connected to the USB out port of the Apple keyboard, which was connected to the MacBook. No issues. When hub was introduced between the MacBook and keyboard, the error message "Connect PTZ-930 to power or a USB port on this Mac. Connecting it to the takes another port, so out of 3 I get 1 - hardly an improvement.

5 out of 5 eggsultrabook necessity

Pros: purchased both a powered hub Vantec UGT-MH-330GNA and a Tekrepublic TUN-310
The Vantec is of course is better with plenty of power for peripheral devices. Both hubs do not need a driver for USB operation, but use the same AX88179a driver for the LAN port function. Both function a near gigabit speed and USB 3.0 use is faultless.

The Tekrepublic adapter is lighter and more convenient but gets very warm when imaging a drive, which you probably would not be doing while traveling.
These both work well on my new Lenovo Yogi 2 .

Note: Instructions for installation for Vantec were completely wrong and setup failed. Go to directory UGT-MH-330GNA\Windows\Win(your version)\program files\ASIX Electronics Corporation\ AX88179_AX88178A Windows 8 Drivers\ 32bit or 64bit. In the final directory are only 5 files use DPinst.exe wait about 30 seconds use devcon.exe.

For the tekrepublic you have to download the correct setup as a zip archive. Downloaded archive and looked inside same driver is listed. Not sure which is most current so using driver installed from Vantec.

Cons: instructions for install lacking

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Tablet

Pros: Great Device. The Gb NIC is a nice bonus on my ASUS Transformer Windows tablet. The USB Hub is what I needed.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: It looks pretty

Cons: The hub arrived quickly because I paid extra for fast delivery since I had a last minute business trip scheduled. The power light would turn on just fine. But it was rarely detected by the 4 PCs + 1 laptop I attempted to hook up to it. It also refused to pass data.

So now I'm out ~$20 for shipping + RMA, and I still do not have a hub for my business trip.

Other Thoughts: Its difficult to buy electronics online when I pay +$20 for shipping for a broken device. I will seriously question buying any kind of electronics while we are am charged this much for a piece of garbage, when a brick and mortar store will happily take it back for free.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great. Good price for features.

Pros: No Drivers required (Windows 8.1)
Gigabit Ethernet ran at full speed.
I run virtual machines of an SSD in a USB 3.0 enclosure and there was wasn't any noticeable difference in performance during file transfers to the drive and when using the built in Ethernet.
Price, considering it comes with an Ethernet port that I needed (my 2014 Dell XPS 15 doesn't come with one built in). USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapters cost nearly as much as this alone.
Shipped/delivered incredibly fast.

Cons: None (so far).

Other Thoughts: I only received this today and my review is done based on brief testing. Quite a

5 out of 5 eggsThe most reliable USB 3.0 hub I have ever used

Pros: I have used many hubs over the years and most of them had some sort of issue to contend with. Not this one.

1. Small...portable.
2. Ethernet port with the latest ASIX 88179 USB to Ethernet controller.
3. Highly reliable Renesas USB 3.0 controller. Renesas was spun off from NEC. No VIA junk here!
4. Powered hub.
5. Extremely high quality cable provided.
6. No unusual random disconnects. It just works.
7. Driver disk NOT needed for Windows 8 or later machines. The USB 3.0 hub and Ethernet port will be automatically recognized.
8. 40" USB 3.0 cable provided is at the maximum allowable length for signal and power integrity.

Cons: None...and that is a first.

Other Thoughts: The power adapter is not required for lower power draw devices like mice or keyboards or devices that have their own power supplied. I use the power adapter anyway just to be on the safe side.

I am not using the Ethernet portion of this hub, so I cannot comment on the reliability of it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well.

Pros: Allows for high data transfers via all USB 3.0 port at the same time, while using the Ethernet. Bought two of these devices and primarily using them on Windows 8.1 tablets that do not have built in Ethernet, and only have one USB port (Like on Surface Pro). This allows you not to tie up your 1 and only USB 3.0 port to use your Ethernet dongle.

I was skeptical about the need for a power cord if I was only going to use it as a Ethernet device. I didnt want to pull out this device then worry about finding a power plug to plug it in. I can tell you that it does not need the external power for just using the Ethernet, and a mouse in one of the three USB 3.0 ports. Which is primarily what I use. Now when you plug in a USB hard drive that is where the power draw is to much and the power adapter comes in.

Cons: None so far. Works well.

Other Thoughts: Another nice thing was the device recognized with stock Windows 8.1 drivers. I didn't even have to put in the driver disk that came with the device.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Concept; Great Value

Pros: Very easy to use - I have a Mac, and the drivers worked flawlessly. Great way to add more USB ports, of course, but having wired Ethernet can be a lifesaver and is still best for voluminous backups, bulk file transfers, and otherwise copying large amounts of data. The Vantec is also USB-powered, but the included transformer is essential for USB devices that need a boost or for recharging mobile devices. Even the placement of ports is logical and convenient.

Cons: None. Really.

Other Thoughts: The price is less than that required to buy an independent powered USB hub and a USB-to-Gig-E adapter, and the Vantec is far more convenient to use. Even if you only need one or the other, get this product anyway. You never know...
