Pros: Worked fine for three months.

Cons: Three months in it quit working. Power is good to it. Something on the board? I don't like living in a throw away society and this just burns me.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent case. Heads up with the heat and screws.

Pros: - Nice modern design
- Seems sturdy
- Fast transfer speed
- Supports up to 6TB (says 4 on the user guide, 6 on the website)

Cons: - better instructions needed stating the difference in screw thread. Colored versions supposedly are provided but mine weren't (as others pointed out)
- does run hot

Other Thoughts: I have a WD Black 3TB drive in there since that is one of the few models I use, due to their reliability and speed (5 yr warranty). Since it is 7200RPM, unlike most backup drives that are 5400 (some being variable and up to 7200), it runs hot. By not having a fan in there, it is especially important to position the case in a vertical position instead of horizontal with this drive. Doing so, the temperature dropped 6 degrees from 60 Celsius to 54, while completing full PC backups. This brought it below the recommended operating temperature of 55 degrees which provides me with confidence that I am not unnecessarily stressing the drive, affecting its lifespan. It's a great device.

5 out of 5 eggsToshiba 5400 3GB per second

Pros: I used this tera byte harddrive on a ps3 to replace the old. you are limited to 5400RPMs for speed. Although this had 3GB's per second connections thus making it work as fast as the PS3. Better Graphics,Faster loading, Faster saving, And no more "clipping"

Cons: Only 1TB so if your going to buy alot of games you might want to concider a bigger harddrive

Other Thoughts: External harddrives are slower due to the USB bus speed or other conections capabilities...Big pipe small pipe. so don't waste your money on a super fast harddrive that will only go up to whatever your device can handle...your basically wasting your time

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure

Pros: Very well designed and engineered. I haven't had the device for long, but it assembled cleanly and easily, and worked perfectly out of the box with a spare drive I had on hand.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Some people have mentioned screws and threads, and it is important to keep in mind that there are two slightly different kinds of screws in the package. In the pictorial directions, they are shown in two different colors, but the screws that came with my device were all silver in color and about the same size. However, it's easy to distinguish them: Four screws with the coarser threading are used to attach the hard drive to the caddy, after which two screws with the finer threading are used to attach the outer shell to the caddy. They are easy to distinguish if you just look closely. You may find an extra screw of each type (as I did), but the key is to distinguish the two types of screws, to use them in their proper places, and to go slowly and carefully with the screws, not forcing anything.
One other small point about assembly is that the caddy can be slid into the outer shell in either of two orientations. Things will work fine either way, but if you want the writing on the outside to be oriented properly, and the on/off switch to be oriented with "on" upward and "off" downward, just take note of these points when assembling. Of course, if you decide later that you really want "on" to be downward, and the writing to be upside down, you can always "fix" things that way. To each his or her own.

5 out of 5 eggsA great choice for BACKUPS

Pros: This is a great choice if you are using it solely for backups. The enclosure does not contain a fan, so longer term use will likely cause your hard drive to overheat. Be careful if using it for extended, everyday use.

Cons: It's not a tool free enclosure.

Other Thoughts: I use mine without the aluminum case which allows me to quickly switch hard drives for backup.

Pros: works as described
nice design
handles 4TB no problem

Cons: runs hot even though the aluminum frame is designed to disperse I am concerned on how this will affect the life of the hard drive

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: The unit works great! Fast speeds and good compatibility.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: No real instructions, but seriously, they're not needed. I can already envision future reviews of people saying the chassis does not fit in the enclosure. (flip it around, match the grooves then try again!)
