1 out of 5 eggsExpensive Garbage

Pros: Absolutely NOTHING!!!

Cons: Avoid at all cost. It's inexpensive, for $7.99 not bad, but it does not work so it turns into you just buying $7.99 worth of garbage.

The drive did not work with any of my mechanical or SSD drives, in 3 different computers using USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports.

And the 3 minutes it worked, using DiskMark it recorded my SSD with 33MB/s read and 35MB/s write, what a joke. Anyhow, after that it started to make that sound as if you plug and unplug at the same time and in Windows it appeared then it would disappeared, back and forth, and in all 3 machines.

Upon breaking the pins purposely because of the fact I just bought garbage, I noticed the controller, no wonder why, it's an ASMEDIA controller, which my Asus Z97 Pro has and I was getting horrible speeds with it till I updated the drivers, which are not on the Asus site....But anyhow, this enclosure is garbage, it does not work and avoid ASMEDIA controllers at all cost, they're cheap, not inexpensive, but cheap.

Other Thoughts: I bought a SABRENT enclosure, model EC-UK30, this has been the most inexpensive and best enclosure $9.99 can buy, the speeds I get in that enclosure rival the Samsung T1 external SSD.
I put the Hyper X Savage on the SABRENT enclosure and I was getting 412MB/s Read and 393MB/s Write, and it works great with just any other mechanical drive as well.

Avoid Inland enclosures as well, I bought two, two different models as well and both are half slower than the SABRENT enclosure.

I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones but luck was not on my side this time. And this is the 2nd product I buy that I have given a bad review, because it deserves it.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate--Now Broken

Pros: Worked for a bit.

When it worked it was fine

Cons: Now it is broken.

I noted in my earlier review that the connectors were weak... The weld between the USB connector and chip broke already after only a few uses. The welds are very small and weak and the USB connector is not fully secured into the cap as it should be.

Other Thoughts: I must of set something on the cord when it was connected to the unit.

1 out of 5 eggsVantec enclosure almost immediately broke

Pros: High speed, lightweight, compact

Cons: USB cable connector detached from board after about 2 months of use. I hope that my SSD is not ruined.

Other Thoughts: Won't buy Vantec again

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Works steadily when it does. One unit still operating well.

Cons: 50% defective rate. Bought two, one was DOA.

Other Thoughts: The USB 3.0 version of these cases is unreliable. I have 4 USB 2.0 version and they have been working perfectly for years. Why are they no eSATA ports anymore? That's too bad as I use them often with the older versions.

4 out of 5 eggsSorry VANTEC

Pros: Works great now

On my first review I lambasted this product as very poor quality. Now I say this thing works as it should why the change I tried it on my second computer and I had no problems so I started thinking what could cause this problem well I will make it short turns out the problem was on my NEW motherboard it’s an ASUS sabertooth mark 2 the on board USB 3.0 header it has 2 of them one has problems I guess I switched to the second port for my ad on USB 3.0 Hub and NO more problems.

Cons: I will say I think the construction of this thing is not the best I have owned a number of VANTEC products and this one is not as good as the others I have owned.

Other Thoughts: Disregard my first review Please

Cons: The thing keeps dropping out then back in every 2 minutes then says the drive needs fixing/formatting.

Other Thoughts: This thing is cheap junk very low quality I'm surprised Vantec slapped their name on it. it looks like Vantec's quality is dropping

Not worth returning at the price paid its going in the TRASH

3 out of 5 eggsCould be better in some areas

Pros: * When copying from a desktop internal HDD to the external enclosure I could achieve fast USB 3.0 speeds. I used a 5400rpm laptop HDD and a new SSD drive in the enclosure to test with and they gave some max sustained write speeds of about 100MB/s to the external enclosure.
* When I cloned my SSD inside my desktop computer and using a new SSD in this enclosure it copied 60GB in just under 11 minutes.
* The USB 3.0 Cable seems thick and very sturdy, plugs into the enclose and the computer very snug.
* The case doesn't seem to get as warm as other cases I have used by Vantec and other brands.
* Should accommodate about any size of HDD. The inside of the case is long, wide, and tall enough for about any 2.5' HDD or SSD to be used.
* Comes with small screwdriver to assemble the case.
* Mine came with six screws and the case requires four to assemble. I assume there were two extra screws in case I lost some.
* The green indicator light is not overly bright or annoying as some cases are.

Cons: These are minor cons, depending on how you want to use the enclosure.

* The enclosure is held inside the case using two very small screws that screw through the aluminum into plastic tabs on the end piece. Over time the plastic tabs/screw holes will wear out if you are someone that opens and closes the case often. I prefer some of the older model cases Vantec made which screwe-d the plastic end piece into the aluminum case - much more solid when the screws are anchored into metal. I have used some other external cases where I will swap the drive out from time to time. This case is designed in a way that you would probably want to add a HDD and be done with it.
* The case is a little on the big side, but only looks about 1-2mm bigger than the other cases I have bought over the years, and it is square and not rounded in the corners so it looks bigger because of this.
* This comes with a plastic sheet that is adhesive on both ends for you to apply to the HDD you will be adding to the enclosure. The instructions say to add this sheet to the bottom of the HDD which I assume is so the HDD doesnt short out by touching the metal on the inside of the case to the motherboard that is on the bottom of the HDD. I have never used a case that required this, and it seems like a design flaw. Instead of adding the sheet to the HDD I am using, I applied the sheet to the bottom of the inside of the case, as I intend to swap the HDD frequently inside the case. Of course, this would not be needed on a SSD disk as there are no exposed parts on those.
* While the case should support about any size drive, there are 2 little foam pads on the inside opposite the connection end and that end was a pain to put back onto the case. The reason I took this end off was to position the plastic sheet inside the case. If you follow the directions and put it on the HDD then this wouldn't be an issue.
* Specs do not support 2TB drive, I did not test this.

Other Thoughts: Overall, very happy with the speed and the guts of the product. I really wish the case was built better for swapping the HDD and had bigger screws holding it together. I do tech work for a living and I may just toss the external part of the case and use the SATA connection and the USB 3.0 cable. I will probably buy another external case that works better for my business needs.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap and works

Pros: Works.
Is mostly metal; ends are plastic.
usb 3.0; although you don't need this for standard mechanical hdd's

Cons: Overall, the design is poor. The connection to the hard drive is flimsy; the drive fits loosely inside the case.

Screws are annoying, although it was nice of them to provide a screwdriver.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't get this again or recommend it.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Enclosure is inexpensive and so far seems to work just fine. Overall lives up to my expectations.

Cons: They provide a ton of extra room in this enclosure, which is really nice for the larger 2.5 inch drives, but something to be aware of if installing a SSD into it. Also before installing your drive remove both ends of the unit, they provide little foam pads on the back end cap to support shorter drive. Had to be removed to fit my SSD in without overly stressing the connector.
