1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this as you will need to buy a new cable

Pros: Well Belkin use to be a brand you can trust. Small hub so easy to put away.

Cons: They give you just 18 inch cable. That means in most situations you will have to find someway to secure it to your case. The cable on my HAF-X, reached just the top of the back and if you know the HAF-X case, the motherboard sits much higher up, but the cable is still too short. Belkin support is AWFUL. Tech support, if you can call it that, will only help if your product isn't working. Otherwise they send you to customer service, who then only does RMA. I asked Belkin why, with this being a business model, why they put such a short cable in compared to the Belkin F4U058tt. They would not answer. A decent USB 3.0 cable will cost you about $20 for a nice 3 ft cable. Vantec, all their products come with a 3ft cable. They also would not exchange for a longer cord or provide a discount.

I have know belkin for years, decades. They knew nothing about either product in terms of what chip is in the hub. They couldn't tell me which product was newer the 58 or 81. I had to go to the web and google it. There is no support option for either product. Type in the 81 model and you get nothing.

If you look at their website and eventually find the products, they don't even have the honesty to tell you it is a short cable.

BUYER BEWARE. Belkin lacks support except for their networking gear, but after my experience I will look elsewhere for products. I am advising all my clients to avoid Belkin after this experience. They simply didn't care to resolve the issue. Hopefully someone from Belkin reads this and realize that 1) Don't say, "Our website is not really up to date as we don't have anyone that keeps it up to date" (they list the 58 model as coming soon, yet you can see from the review it is already out. They couldn't even tell me if a product was being discontinued.

Let me just say, don't bother with Belkin. They provide no warranty card, no pdf file not even an instruction book on their website. Good luck on the forums/knowledge base, as they are both useless as well

Other Thoughts: I am going to look at a different brand as this is simply not acceptable to stick an 18" cable for a USB 3.0 hub. They say they factored it into the price, yet both models are msrp 49.99. Also the AWG on the 81 is 30 AWG while the 58 is 26 AWG. For those who don't know what that means, the 30 is a lower quality cable than the 26 (as AWG the lower the number the higher the quality). Yeah they factored it into the price. Belkin should be ashamed and simply just shut down tech support and customer service as all they do is waste your time. Oh and a final thought, some of the numbers they sent me to, were not 800 numbers, and based on the time I was on the non-toll-free numbers I would have racked up nearly 1 hour of long distance. Thankfully my cell phone has free long distance.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Device, just grab some extras too

Pros: It works great, I use it all the times since my USB 3.0 ports in my computer are in the back of the computer. I just use this to connect to it and now I don't have to get behind the computer or pull it out every time I want to use a 3.0 device.

Cons: 1.5 ft USB 3.0 Cable, 2-2.5 ft Power cable(which is a brick style), such light weight that the cables will pull it off the desk(double sided tape fixed that).

Other Thoughts: I picked up a 6ft USB 3.0 Cable at the same time for a few more so I could plug it in the back of the computer and leave this on the corner of my desk. After receiving it and seeing the size the power cable and USB cables weight kept pulling it off the desk. Double sided tap worked great to keep it in the spot I wanted Easily mountable that way to the top, bottom, or side of a desk. Just make sure you plan out your design prior to ordering so you can pick up your extra's be it power or usb cable length.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: -Works with USB 1.1
-Power adapter is not required when plugged into computer

Cons: -Connection cable is short
-Connection cable disconnects easily

Other Thoughts: As I was searching for a USB hub to replace the USB port that broke on my computer, I noticed that no other hub matched the feature set of this hub. I also took comfort from that fact that I have had success with Belkin products in the past.

One of my concerns was whether this would take up another socket on my already crowded surge protector. Fortunately, if you're using a PC tower, like I am, the power is provided by the computer, so you don't have to use the adapter.

The second thing I needed was a USB 3 hub that was backwardly compatible with USB 2 and USB 1.1. This is the only hub I found that could do that. I am happy to report that my USB 3 devices perform up to the same speed they did when connected to the PC's USB ports.

One minor gripe is that the cable that connects the hub to the computer can disconnect a little too easily, especially since the cable isn't particularly long. This problem doesn't really happen to me, but someone else who uses my computer accidentally disconnects this cable sometimes.

I recommend this hub if you must support your new and legacy USB devices and you don't want to take up space on your surge protector.

4 out of 5 eggsBelkin USB 3.0 Hub

Pros: Small, compact. Great for laptop use, and toting around when needed with laptop. Small form factor and stores easy. Short cords to PC but when a small space is an issue its great. Depending on whether your computer powers the hub it doesn't require the external power adapter cord.

Cons: For desktop use it is lacking. Both the power cord and the adapter cord could be longer, and some type of mount to hold the hub in place would be nice.

Other Thoughts: I've used it on my desktop, seems like a lot of cords when you use all the ports. Overall I like the compact design and ability to carry it in my laptop bag without any extra baggage so to speak.
