1 out of 5 eggsVery flaky

Pros: When it works, it transfers quickly.

Cons: I use it with a laptop so frequent disconnect/connect cycles. I have to unplug/plug the hub multiple times to get my USB 3.0 hard drive to show up on my computer. Today, it seems like it may have finally died completely. The chipset inside has firmware that can be upgrade but only if you have a Windows machine with a USB 3 port (which I don't). It can't upgrade on USB 2 for some reason.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy this again, but at the time I bought it there really weren't any better options.

Cons: - Died after ~3 weeks

Other Thoughts: Just another reason to stick to established brands.

1 out of 5 eggsDissapointing

Pros: -- Seamless USB 3.0 on OSX

Cons: -- Power Adapter very large
-- Died after 1 month

Other Thoughts: This worked fined, until it stopped working overnight. There were no signs of impending failure; it just stopped working. Cost of shipping for warrantee is not worth it. You roll the dice with this devi e.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Does the job that other USB 3.0 hubs won't do. I purchased several hubs prior to this one and neither one of the them would power my portable Seagate drive. This one powers up the drive with no problem.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I am going to buy another one of these for my office.

2 out of 5 eggsQuirky

Pros: Low profile, Clean look

Cons: Locks up occasionally, slower transfer rates than expected, even when only one device plugged into hub.

Other Thoughts: Occasionally locks up and doesn't recognize any of the ports. Have to pull power cord and USB to reset.
New devices are hit/miss when first plugged in. Sometimes taking up to a 30 seconds to recognize, but usually after about 10 I give up and try another port or reset it.
Used it to try to transfer some large files from external hard drive (only device connected to hub) and when transfer rates and estimated time were unacceptable I compared to being plugged straight to usb3.0 slot and rates were astonishingly better.

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Reasonable price but not cheap.

Cons: 1) So much EMI it interfered with my WiFi access Point.
2) Very picky about USB 2 ports that it would connect to. Would not work with any of my other USB 2 hubs or Dell XPS Laptop running Windows XP or Home built hexacore server running Windows 7. Had no problem with USB 3 ports however.
3) Also ran very very hot to the touch.
4) Failed at just over six months usage no longer in Warranty so money down the drain.
6) Could not get any USB 2 peripherals to work with it.
7) Did not really notice a significant or measurable difference in my external disk transfer speed.

Other Thoughts: Some of my friends have had similar experiences with other USB 3 hubs. Maybe USB 3 it is nor really ready for prime time yet. Pretty disappointed as the only other viable alternative are esata which few laptops support and thunderbolt which have very few devices available yet.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like you want, has power supply

Pros: Works with all the 2.0 and 3.0 devices I've thrown at it.
Good for breaking out the measly one or two 3.0 ports your computer comes with.
Includes a power brick and a 3.0 A->B cable, which is everything you need
Lights indicating when a port is plugged in is a nice touch

Cons: Cords for power brick and included usb 3.0 cable are a little on the short side.
Ports are a little stiff when inserting or removing devices, but I get the idea that all usb 3.0 ports are like that.

Other Thoughts: Used this alongside a usb 3.0 card to give my dad an upgrade. He loves it. Uses it for his camera, flash drives, and to charge his various bike accessories. (GPS, lights, whatnot)

1 out of 5 eggsInconsistent at best

Pros: When it works it is consistent with 3.0 Speeds. Wprks fine with all 2.0 devices.

Cons: This works ok with a USB 3.0 Flash Drive on my ASUS Formula IV connected to the USB 3.0 ports built in. When I try to use it with my older ASUS M3a79-t deluxe and a PCIE-1x USB 3.0 card it will not work with 3.0 devices. It usually will detect a HDD or thumb drive but it will immediately drop the connection. I have a 3TB Drive and a 3.0 extension cable connected to the PCIE USB 3.0 card and all works as expected, but as soon as I add the HUB in between any 3.0 divice and the PCIE Card 3.0 devices stop working. Results are the same with or without external power source.

Other Thoughts: Has no issues with USB 2.0

2 out of 5 eggsaffordable design average performance

Pros: Design is compact and doesn't offend the eyes.

Cons: Power cable is only 3ft. Need longer power cable. At least 5 ft. Inconsistent performance issue, see "Other Thoughts"

Other Thoughts: I bought this unit back in Sept 05, 2012. In my first review I gave it a 4-star. However, after some usage, I realize it doesn't merit the 4-star. On many occasions, the hub fail to register usb device so I had to plugin to another port. At time copying large files with programs such as Teracopy or Microsoft Richcopy, copying process stall or result in file errors. In such instance, the issue is resolved when I revert to using USB 2.0 port on my computer. Perhaps USB 3.0 drivers haven't properly matured or my motherboard was an early adopter of USB 3.0, the device does NOT work consistently. When it does, the fast transfer speed of USB 3 is greatly noticeable. Caveat emptor!
