1 out of 5 eggsLocked up, all 4 lights are lit.

Pros: Worked for a couple of weeks, sort of. It frequently lost connection with my Supermicro workstation.

Cons: Then one day it completely locked up, no input on any computer, and all 4 lights were lit up. I completely disconnected everything and reconnected everything THREE TIMES. Error is the same each time. As far as I can tell the unit is completely unresponsive to anything. Don't bother calling technical support, they just refer you to the online documentation, which tells you nothing about this error. I recorded my phone call, I was supposedly #2 in line for support, and after just a minute I was sent to voicemail. This is very unprofessional. I have other Iogear products I've recently purchased, I'll probably RMA them all in light of this lack of support after the sale. I can't have my customers going through that same experience.

Other Thoughts: I've been in the I.T. business for 15 years. I've never had a complete failure on a KVM in this short of a time.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS634U is a plug and play device so troubleshooting is very limited. The Type of problem described is most likely a failure of the KVM. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsStill working years later.

Pros: This is a great product for someone who wants to hook multiple computers to one monitor. I bought this back in 5/11/2013, and it is still working flawlessly.

Cons: N/A

1 out of 5 eggsCOULD HAVE BEEN

Pros: Nice looking and long cables. Has audio feature I wanted.

Cons: This KVM would not recognize different mouse and keyboards. Switching was a total disaster as it would only recognize what it wanted to. I RMA'd asap..

Other Thoughts: I ended up ordering the 4 port model without audio and it works as intended. I have 2 of the other KVM's that work flawlessly. I wanted a KVM with longer cables and audio, but you can't always get what you want. My other KVM's are IOGEAR.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Our KVM’s emulate a standard 102 key, keyboard and generic 2-button scroll wheel mouse. The reason for this emulation is to allow the hot key functions to operate. A side effect of the emulation is that in most cases the special key sequences required for gamming, and key programming will not translate correctly through the KVM, for gamming we recommend connecting directly to the computer.

Although our KVMs will work with most wireless keyboard mouse sets, we cannot promise an individual multimedia / programmable keyboard and mouse set will work through the KVM.

Due to the large number of manufacturer's and each manufacturer's wide range of models it is impossible to maintain any meaningful compatibility list.
Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking strong after 7+ years

Pros: Used it daily since 2007 and still working well.
Have used regularly with Windows/Linux/FreeBSD hosts with 0 issues.

Cons: Cables not thick enough, my naughty Rabbit ate through one of the embedded KVM USB cables and now I can't use that port! LoLs.

Other Thoughts: The only annoying thing is this doesn't work in BIOS screens of older hardware that do not recognize USB during BIOS setup, but really that's a limitation of old hardware, not the fault of this awesome device at all.

Apparently I have one of the really early models too because I can do the audio-only switching, was great to keep listening to tunes from Winamp while working on Linux/FreeBSD.

3 out of 5 eggsSleek design, but has flaws

Pros: I bought this mainly for the design, because it looks similar to a Mac Mini. Works very well and has all the ports needed.

Cons: Destroyed my logitech adapter. I cannot pull that sucker out of the usb keyboard slot on the hub. It is lodged in there and the plastic cover broke off trying to get it to release. I use this with parted magic that loads from usb and my wireless mouse randomly gets slow and will have to click multiple times until it responds. I would try a different mouse if I could get my adapter out. I use this with my laptop and the USB/audio/vga cable end are bundled together however you only get so much length. I have both my usb 3.0 ports on the right side along with the vga and cannot connect to the other end of my laptop to free up the 3.0 ports.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, BUT....

Pros: Convenient, hardly have to think about it.

Cons: When it screws up, I'm s c r e w e d.

Other Thoughts: This KVM works most of the time. But periodically it comes up with the wrong screen resolution on one machine, and there's NOTHING I can do to correct it. Iogear has no tech support to contact, and their FAQ has no answer. Google has revealed no solution. HOURS are wasted. I'm in the middle of one now and have no idea how to get back to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. IOGEAR has phone, email and chat support available Monday-Friday 7:30am -6:00PM PST. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsNoise in audio, No Monitor info

Pros: Has usb and audio connections for 4 computers.
Hot key strokes to change systems.

Cons: No monitor information is relayed or passed to the computer. So with auto detect in windows 7 you have to use a generic monitor and enter the correct resolution.
The audio introduces noise that is heard depending on the what is being displayed.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS634U does not have EDID support for windows 7. We make a variety of KVM's to suite almost all needs including models with DYNA Sync(EDID). To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggsNo independent audio

Pros: Does what it says it will.

Cons: Based off of a *review* (12, in fact), I understood that you could switch audio independently- the included manual suggests this as well. This not the case, and the feature was removed years ago, according to iogear. I'd not have chosen this KVM had I known that.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The early versions of the GCS634U did support audio switching however due to a firmware change this feature is no longer available. This feature has not been available for over 3 years on the GCS634U. Some of the older manuals did show audio switching as a feature however it was removed from the updated manual. The first model with this feature would be the GCS1734. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR

2 out of 5 eggsDoes only part of what it claims

Pros: Switches computers if you key the computer number.

Cons: Does not switch to next connected computer - only switches to next connector, connected or not; so if you have 1 and 4 connected, you have to switch 3 times to get from 1 to 4.
Advertising blurb says you can give a command to switch KVM but keep sound at original computer. This does not work.
I verified both facts with IOGEAR support supervisor today, who said these 2 features were present in the first few iterations of this model; but a firmware update early on eliminated them.
Bottom line: This switch switches by computer number - well and only.
To me, the present situation constitutes false advertising.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. You can switch to a specific port by press scroll lock, scroll lock 1 and enter. This will go to port 1. Substitute port number for any of the 4 ports to go to that specific port. If you press scroll lock scroll lock enter it will only go to the next port. 1-, 2-3, 3-4 and back to 1. The feature to switch focus without the sound was removed over two years back so this feature is no longer available on the GCS634U. The current website specifications and manual has no mention of this feature. There may still be some of the older manuals. that may still show this feature so we apologize if you were told the KVM still had this feature. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product!

Pros: - Looks Great
- Tons of features (Video w/o audio transfer, etc)

Cons: - Had some issues where it wouldn't recognize my wireless usb keyboard and mouse (Single Dongle Combo), then switching ports wouldn't work because my keyboard doesn't have a scroll lock key. Found a way around it though.
- Audio makes a static sound that gets louder as my computer processes something (Figured it was a grounding issue)

Other Thoughts: Overall a great product, would recommend if not using for anything where sound quality is key.
