2 out of 5 eggsWorst one I've used... disappointing coming from IOGear

Pros: Has ability to switch between two machines.*

Cons: *Both machines MUST be active to do it.

Other Thoughts: Looking for another KVM from a different MFG.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS22U is a basic non emulated KVM with a very low failure rate. This is a very popular KVM model. It is used to share a keyboard, monitor and mouse with 2 computers. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

2 out of 5 eggsFalse Advertising: Mac keyboard doesn't work with Mac

Pros: Works fine with Windows 7.

Cons: I use a wired aluminum apple keyboard and want to continue to use it with both my windows machine and my 2009 iMac.

Unfortunately, when they say "Full Mac keyboard support" as a bullet point on the back of the box, what they actually mean is "your mac keyboard will only work in Windows".

The keyboard that I've been using for years works beautifully if I plug it directly into the back of my iMac, but does not work at all on my iMac if put through this KVM.

A quick google search seems to indicate that IOGear has known about this problem since at least 2009, but there is no fix for it. The fact that this product is still marketed as having **FULL** Mac keyboard support (my box has a copyright of 2012) seems to be intentionally misleading.

Other Thoughts: Avoid this product and this company. Waste of time and money.

1 out of 5 eggsLack of Compatibility

Pros: Works well with Windows

Cons: Does not work with Linux/Unix. I contacted the company for support, they said as long as I have drivers installed for my keyboard/mouse this product will work normally. My keyboard and mouse work when plugged into the PC, but not the KVM switch. False advertising and lack of support by the company.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS22U is compatible with Linux however the devices you connect to the GCS22U may require additional drivers for Linux. I will forward your comments to the product manager. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Switch is easy to connect and simple to use. Physical button is nice to have.

Cons: LED should be on the button to see what system you are connected to. Most people don't have their KVM in a place to look at it all the time. Wire on switcher button is 18 or 20 gauge, it feels like you might break it when you are installing it.

5 out of 5 eggsNever knew what I was missing

Pros: Plug and Play with no hassles or drivers; really.(see other thoughts)
Left/Right LED indicator on switch.
Compact, simple and easy to use single button remote with non skid bottom. The remote allows me to push all of the cables and clutter to the back of the bench.
Cable length allows for a comfortable work area between towers.
USB connectors are marked for keyboard/mouse so I don't get stupid.
It has shown to be compatible with Windows '98 through 7; haven't tried it on 8.

Cons: I'm just a little more lazy now.

Other Thoughts: With Win.'98 I had to place ps2 adapters on the ends to boot with out errors the first time. '98 found the right driver when I switched back to USB.
I did have '98 drop the connection once but it may have been something that I did; an earlier reviewer solved something similar.
The switch performs flawlessly with XP, Vista and 7; more than I can say for the operator at times.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: As any KVM would, lets me still have a desk surface even while running a 2nd system and saves me the trouble of crawling under it to switch connections. Corded remote works well.

Cons: Creates a few glitches that could become pretty annoying in the long term.

Other Thoughts: Have seen some glitches since adding this to my setup. With one system, the mouse is sometimes unrecognized and the same system no longer turns itself off after the shutdown process. On the other, the video will cut out for a few seconds every now and then. Each of these symptoms disappears entirely when the KVM is removed from the equation. That's all the troubleshooting I've done, or intend to do, as the switch is a temporary solution for me and not really worth the time investment. But knowing the switch "has issues" I'd have to suggest a different brand.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. The problems noted about are usually related to the initial setup. The GCS22U is a very ho seller and low failure KVM. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsMake your life easier...

Pros: Works as advertised
No wall wart
Compact size
Allows 2 computers to be on the same desk using the same keyboard, mouse and monitor

Cons: Again, what cons?

Other Thoughts: I bought this so I could test the machine I have started rebuilding (an old Gateway V733 Pro that I found in the trash) and use my regular desktop (one I built myself in 2008) at the same time. It just works well for this purpose! I'm glad I bought this!

5 out of 5 eggsSoooo nice!!!

Pros: - Cables are included
- Cables are plenty long
- Can be hidden out of sight
- Switch is small and can be put just about anywhere

Cons: Haven't found any yet

Other Thoughts: This allows me to bring my work laptop home and hook it up to my second monitor while keeping my WHS still connected. So much easier than swapping cables around!!

5 out of 5 eggsslick!

Pros: works as advertised.

Cons: slight delay when switching and when waking a PC up via the mouse/keyboard.

VGA and not DVI/HDMI?

Other Thoughts: It took a few times before I figured out the tricks to these KVM's (my guess it's all of them, not just this one). Plug it into a powered USB port (the kind that maintain power even when the PC is off). If a PC/laptop is sleeping, switch the KVM to it before waking it up, so it sees the monitor and uses the correct video settings (my laptop would default to standard VGA if I woke it up before switching - putting it back to sleep and re-waking fixed it). Not all keyboards work with this KVM (I think it's not this switch as much as the cheap keyboard I tried). My xGene mini keyboard works fine with it, as does an older Dell on my wife's setup with a similar KVM, but an el cheapo Elvision did not.
