1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work

Pros: Very easy setup

Cons: Doesn't work. When switching PCs, screen resolution can get lost and cannot be restored (to external monitor). The mouse on the PC that is not currently "active" can get lost offscreen...as though it still thinks it is connected to the external monitor

Other Thoughts: Tried to file an RMA for this item, but the return shipping costs more than the part itself.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. The GCS22U is a very basic non emulated KVM. If you follow a boot with focus when connecting the KVM you should not have any of the problems described. For more information on boot with focus contact support or browse the knowledge base at IOGEAR.com Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent KVM

Pros: Needed to connect work laptop to two external screens as well as switch to home desktop on one of the screens. Plugged right in w/ no problems. Quick switch between systems. Didn't work with my wireless kbd/mouse but no big deal.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Outstanding value for the price. Don't do gaming or high end stuff. Werks fer my needs!!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great for what it's meant for. I use it to switch my keyboard and mouse between 2 PCs. I'm not using the VGA because I use the HDMI input from one PC. Works great and the little button to switch with is nice with its non-slip backing.

Cons: None at this time.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but has issues

Pros: Simple installation; saves desk real estate by allowing two computers to share a single monitor/keyboard/mouse (or tablet); requires no AC power; low Newegg price

Cons: Glitchy switch; produces annoying temporary screen shimmer

Other Thoughts: I installed the KVM to switch between my Mac and PC, sharing a 23" LCD monitor, keyboard and tablet. Each computer has its own wireless mouse, which is an easy switch since they sit side by side.

The unit does work, but the switch is glitchy; one click more often than not bypasses the second computer and returns to the first, so I have to keep playing with it to actually switch between systems. Additionally, when returning to my Mac side from my PC side, the screen shimmers/shakes for a good twenty minutes before settling down. It's shimmy shaking now--an annoying distraction.

This is my second IOGEAR KVM switch; I had the 4-port for a year or so working fine, then it got glitchy, too. And also eventually produced the same screen shimmer. But this 2-port one has been problematic from the get-go. If I can find a more dependable KVM for a decent price, I'll be "switching" this one for it. But as always--I give Newegg a solid FIVE.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS22U is a very low failure reliable KVM. We cannot guarantee this KVM will work with Video adapters. The problem described may be related to your setup and not the GCS22U. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsPERFECT

Pros: Worked perfectly right out of the box. Used it to replace another brand, and none of the issues have returned.

Cons: none as of yet.

1 out of 5 eggsYou'd think it would work better

Pros: It sort of worked for a year or so ... sort of.

Cons: I do computer repairs, so I need this sort of product.

THIS one produces and has produced scan lines and noise on all computers connected to and through it, regardless of how the cabling is run from day one. I even tried running the cabling through a steel tube to isolate it from other power sources. No dice. NOISE. Bypass the switch and connect directly and it's fine.

Thumb switch is a nice idea with an A/B switch. Face it, you're either on one machine or the other. It works...sort of. From day one, you might need to depress it two, three and even four times to get it to the next system. Click...the screen flashes and you're back where you started. Click...and nothing. Click...and you finally got theres...maybe. I can just imagine how frustrating it would be if it were a 4-PORT. You wouldn't know where the heck you were after the first click!

After a year, one of the video outputs is BLUE. It's like i turned down the red and green outputs on my colour control. No matter how I drive the colour balance, it's BLUE. No way will i get another one of these. Now if I can just find a product that's worth the investment and frustration. Judging by what I see here, unless i want to spend a fortune, I'll be stuck with the same sort of garbage.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

2 out of 5 eggsWorst one I've used... disappointing coming from IOGear

Pros: Has ability to switch between two machines.*

Cons: *Both machines MUST be active to do it.

Other Thoughts: Looking for another KVM from a different MFG.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS22U is a basic non emulated KVM with a very low failure rate. This is a very popular KVM model. It is used to share a keyboard, monitor and mouse with 2 computers. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

2 out of 5 eggsFalse Advertising: Mac keyboard doesn't work with Mac

Pros: Works fine with Windows 7.

Cons: I use a wired aluminum apple keyboard and want to continue to use it with both my windows machine and my 2009 iMac.

Unfortunately, when they say "Full Mac keyboard support" as a bullet point on the back of the box, what they actually mean is "your mac keyboard will only work in Windows".

The keyboard that I've been using for years works beautifully if I plug it directly into the back of my iMac, but does not work at all on my iMac if put through this KVM.

A quick google search seems to indicate that IOGear has known about this problem since at least 2009, but there is no fix for it. The fact that this product is still marketed as having **FULL** Mac keyboard support (my box has a copyright of 2012) seems to be intentionally misleading.

Other Thoughts: Avoid this product and this company. Waste of time and money.

1 out of 5 eggsLack of Compatibility

Pros: Works well with Windows

Cons: Does not work with Linux/Unix. I contacted the company for support, they said as long as I have drivers installed for my keyboard/mouse this product will work normally. My keyboard and mouse work when plugged into the PC, but not the KVM switch. False advertising and lack of support by the company.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS22U is compatible with Linux however the devices you connect to the GCS22U may require additional drivers for Linux. I will forward your comments to the product manager. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Switch is easy to connect and simple to use. Physical button is nice to have.

Cons: LED should be on the button to see what system you are connected to. Most people don't have their KVM in a place to look at it all the time. Wire on switcher button is 18 or 20 gauge, it feels like you might break it when you are installing it.
