4 out of 5 eggsVery nice KVM

Pros: Works as intended and simple to set up. Decent cable length, particularly on the remote giving you plenty of freedom to place it where it is most comfortable.

Cons: Single button on the remote for switching computers. This makes it somewhat of a pain to switch back and forth between only two computers since you have to cycle through all four "channels" every time.

Other Thoughts: Running dual monitors works. Sort of... It switches whichever monitor is plugged into the KVM, however, there is funkiness that occurs on the dual monitor setup. Switching to another computer effectively unplugs the monitor from the computer previously running dual and therefor all the windows and icons jump over to the monitor that's left. Switching back to the dual monitor setup seems to pull the icons back where they belong but any open windows stay on the non-switching monitor (windows 10). Kind of a pain, but not really a con since this switch isn't designed for dual monitor setups and it isn't the switch doing the shuffling of windows/icons. Just something to keep in mind.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for combined keyboard and mouse.

Pros: USB ports are a direct passthrough, so they work with pretty much anything. I have a rack mount monitor with the keyboard and trackpad on one usb, and regular usb kvm's that use scroll lock or other key combinations won't pass through a mouse signal.

This also passes through flash drives just as easily, though if you change computer with it running, windows asks to scan it for errors when you reconnect.

The little remote is also very nice, would be nicer if it had a light to indicate which computer it was on, but not a deal breaker.

Cons: Cables are molded in, I prefer ones that are separate, but it's easy enough to set it up, though in a dark space, with no markings on them, it might be harder to set up.

Only indication of what computer you are on is on the main body, so if it's mounted in a place you can't see (like behind a desk, or on the side in my server rack), you can't quickly tell which computer you are on, though it's not that big of a deal.

Remote cable seems like it could rip/get pinched through fairly easily since it is very thin, but this also means that it won't get pulled off of a desk by the weight.

Other Thoughts: The cables could be longer for a desktop situation, but for a server rack they are a great length, they could even be shorter and I wouldn't mind actually.

No mounting holes for screws, so double sided tape is a must.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent KVM switch

Pros: easy to set up and use
works as needed

Cons: only d-sub (as indicated in the product specs)
flimsy wire for the button to swap ports
no keyboard port swapping (if the thin wire for the button gets severed, would be out of luck)
wire length could be longer on the computer connections, on one of my laptops, the USB connections barely reach from the D-sub connection, a few extra inches would make a big difference

Other Thoughts: I would recommend it for the price, and it does get the job done, but some of the aspects could be beefed up for little additional cost to IOGEAR)

5 out of 5 eggsSOLID KVM

Pros: This is the 3rd one I am using and have no problem with any. Basic plug and play. I have 14 pc's and all are on IOGEAR KVM's.

Cons: No audio port. Not really a con as most speakers are USB. It can be resolved easily.

Other Thoughts: I tried the KVM with audio and had major issues with connectivity. I sent it back. I know now I should have stayed with a known product.

4 out of 5 eggsGoodwill Store find!

Pros: I found this at the Goodwill Store, so any defects are obviously not covered by any warranty. With that said, this device works very well, however I read another review about EDID, not sure what that is, but it really seems to be part of my problem.

Back to Pro's: This has supported resolutions as high as I can use, I don't think I've used anything over 1600x1200 yet. I personally use a USB hub on my keyboard and mouse end, sharing a thumb drive on the 2nd USB. That all works flawlessly (I doubt that is the intended use, but hey it works)! I use Logitech keyboard and mouse, and I have had 0 issues with detection on any machine for input devices, even with the thumb drive being KVM'd.

Cons: The Video EDID is apparently a problem I am having. I hope the review I read labelled this issue correctly with EDID, as I'm about to google it myself. I use my Windows 7 Ultimate with a GeForce 560TI and switch to my old PC which runs a GeForce 8400GS on Vista Ultimate. Upon using my new machine and leaving the old machine on to run background downloading, or burning to keep it in use as it's setup to do what I want, and the New PC isn't really ready for full change. Anyways, I switch back to the old PC and I'm stuck at 640x480 resolution... It usually takes a reboot, or this time I've goofed around for nearly 30 min and finally got it to normal resolution. I am trying to update my Monitor drivers and video card drivers now, maybe this will help I hope!

Other Thoughts: Any input on how to resolve this would greatly be appreciated. I think I provided enough info for any halfway decent company could resolve this issue... If it is a fixable issue, provided the hardware just may not function in a way to resolve this odd situation. Either way, a response would be respectful to those other customers looking to find a solution later down the road!

And by no means am I disappointed after paying less than $10 for this used! I would be very pleased if there was a fix for my issue at hand, also I have tried without the thumbdrive, and used the other 2 wiring harnesses. It seems to be some hardware in the KVM loses sync with the pc that is inactive. I have a few other ideas, for instance, turning off the screen saver I think may help, but I didn't want to burn in my screen if I had to leave for work and come home to find I forgot which PC I was on. Maybe this could be a BIOS setting? For the S1, S3, or any other settings available for this. Hopefully someone will find this info useful, and if nothing else we (consumers) can resolve the issue together if IOGear won't chime in.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed!

Pros: Works with every machine I throw at it.

Compatible with DVI-I to VGA adapters

Cons: None that come to mind.

Other Thoughts: I work in a computer repair shop and bought this to replace a PS2/VGA switchbox.

It's been about a month now and I haven't run into any problems switching between the variety of machines that come through the shop.

4 out of 5 eggsGood KVM

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: Sometimes a little lag switching screens, the keyboard and mouse do not always pick up right away.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks ok

Pros: I ordered this so that I could use my Mac, Linux, and Windows box on the same KVM. It worked fine for Mac and Windows, but it wouldn't regain the keyboard and mouse when going back to Linux (Ubuntu).

Cons: It wouldn't regain the keyboard and mouse when going back to Linux (Ubuntu).

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this to someone using Ubuntu. I'm not sure if all distro's would act the same way. My experience was not great. I switched back to a IOGear 2 port USB KVM that I was using before. It works fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Linux will sometimes require additional drivers for your keyboard, mouse or video connection. The GCS22U is compatible with Linux. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.
