4 out of 5 eggsworks in most cases

Pros: After occasional use/testing for a month, it does seem to work well for supported USB devices. I bought this for remote access control to telescope during astrophotography sessions, specifically during the cold winter nights in Nebraska. The range I needed was only about 60 feet(driveway or deck to main computer inside house) It did work well with the following equipment: Celestron AVX mount, Starizona MicroTouch Autofocuser, and Starlight express USB filter wheel.

Cons: I could not get it to consistantly work with Orion Star shoot G3 mono CCD camera. It would lockup and then disconnect from USB device. I even tried the CCD on the Iogear as the only USB device, but still locked up. The CCD itself was fine as it worked fine when USB directly connected.

Other Thoughts: I still would recommend this unit for most devices. Maybe my issue was just an incompatibility with the Orion CCD. Maybe other CCD camera's will work? I dont have access to any to try. Although my canon 450D did show promise during testing.

1 out of 5 eggsThe most rude support in the world, refuse to help repair the problems with their device

Pros: Allowed USB scanner to be attached to network

Cons: 2 devices stopped working for no reason today. called support and they were rude and dismissive, refused to help correct the problems with their devices. the devices will also not maintain connections to scanners and need to be reconnected every time. returning them now.

Other Thoughts: customer support was absolutely horrible and rude, I will never buy an IOGEAR product ever again

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the negative experience with our customer support group. Please contact IOGEAR support at 866-946-4327 or email us at support@iogear.com to let us rectify this situation. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Allows to wirelessly connect various USB devices.
Works for Windows and Mac.
Can be used by several computers at the same time (but NOT for the same device)

Cons: Seems like ip address via dhcp is flaky. I was getting disconnects every 10-15 mins all the time, wired or wireless connection. I have DLink DIR 655 router. After switching to static ip, no more problems.

Other Thoughts: Please note this device is NOT a printer server. If your printer does not have a network connection option, GUWIP204 emulates plugging it into your PC. So, like you cannot plug your printer into two PC at the same time, you cannot connect one printer with two PC at the same time using this device.
I used it to wirelessly connect my telescope. I connect an USB to serial adapter and an USB CCD camera. The serial adapter is connected with a MACmini and is controlling the telescope and the camera is connected with an imaging program on a PC.
Connecting the camera on the Mac still has some issues (extra lines on image) and I cannot tell if the imaging program or GUWIP204 is to blame.
Also before connecting an USB device to GUWIP204 install the required driver on your PC/Mac.

3 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: A nice concept and works great after you upgrade firmware and software. Only way to use a keyboard, mouse, and gamepad with it is to upgrade firmware!!!!! My razer 1600 DPI mouse required it to be hardwired for the mouse to run smoothly. So if you want to game with it.... I recommend you use LAN.

Cons: Current Firmware sucks, can't make it auto-connect devices unless its a printer, and WAN needs to have faster speeds for gaming devices.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am happy with this device and after upgrading the firmware and software, it works correctly.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. I will have these comments forwarded to the product manager for his review. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy setup, but no auto-connect for external HDD's.

Pros: Super easy setup on both Mac and PC, I was up and running in 10 minutes.

Cons: No option to auto-connect to my external hard drives which leaves me no way to do a scheduled backup wirelessly.

Other Thoughts: Great for sharing printers between multiple PC's. Can't auto-connect to drives which keeps me from being able to do a scheduled backup wirelessly, which is the feature I was really looking for. Otherwise pretty good, super easy to set up.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The problem you are describing is usually related hard drive not be able to interface with the GUWIP204 software. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsDidn't work well, RMA with IOGear

Pros: When connected this product worked worked very well. I have it running a keyboard, an iPod, a Memory Card Reader, and a Digital Camera. They all worked well.

Cons: The problem initially with this product (waiting on RMA and will update review) is that the connections to all devices dropped a few times a day and couldn't be auto-connected on computer restart. Went thru driver re-install and the keyboard went nuts when it was manually connected.

Other Thoughts: I am doing the RMA with IOGear in this instance because NewEgg sold out of stock over the holidays. So far, so good though the IOGear RMA's are cryptic. The support pre-RMA was pretty good though one-tracked as usual. I hope this works, but if it doesn't I'll return it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Easy to setup
Works with many different USB devices
Very nice connection software

Cons: Wireless range could be better.
54Mbit wireless not 108Mbit

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to allow me to connect various USB devices for astrophotography from my telescope to my desktop computer. It works as advertised and then some. Here are the devices I have used on the unit at the same time.
1. Bluetooth usb adapter that then connects to Free2Move buuetooth serial ports.
2. Canon DSLR Rebel XS, have used live view.
3. Custom USB serial device I made.
4. Orion starshoot autoguider camera.
Everything works if the wireless signal is more than 1 bar.

Web camera is too slow updating. You are not going to push over 400Mbit over a 54Mbit Wifi connection. It is not designed to do that.

Can also be used with it's 100Mbit ethernet port in addition to it's wireless connection.

Very nice user software on the pc is used to control connecting to USB devices and to bring up a web interface to setup the unit.

Did not try the auto connect to printers.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with webcams

Pros: None

Cons: This wireless hub does not work with webcams as Newegg advertises. IOGear may have originally tried to support webcams with this device, as the manual still states that they do. But the device did not work with any of the webcams that I tried and IOGear's support denies that the device can be used with any webcams at all, and sent me a revised listing of the devices that can be used with this hub; as if that is what they claimed all along.

Other Thoughts: IOGear has the worst customer support, hands down. They marketed a device with claims that they couldn't live up to, modified their claims after sale of the device, then give you flippant rude responses when you are dissatisfied with their product for not meeting those initial claims.
To top off the waste of time, I am out a $30 for nothing (restocking fee plus shipping both ways). I hope Newegg realizes that their customers shouldn't be punished for false advertising and that this is eventually refunded to me.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Because of the band width required by most webcams we cannot guarantee that all web cams will work with the GUWIP204. This is currently under investigation. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

2 out of 5 eggsIt did not work Vista 64

Pros: Dream wireless access, who doe s not want a PC wireless free?

Iogear seem to answer to concerns fairly quick.

I gave two stars for now, if the problem is resolved I would give it 5 stars.

Cons: Mine did not work properly

It would be nice if iogear had a forum so other users could share this kind of information and fix problem or have a better understanding.

It does not seem to have drivers for win 7 64, which makes no sense since they are still selling and microsoft no longer supports Vista and win7 has been out forever now.

Other Thoughts: Although a read a few problems similar to mine I am hoping mine is a hardware rather than software problem

I installed in Vista 64.

Wired connection does not work.

Wireless connection works, I was able to use my printer, what a to be able to maintain all the junk peripheral in another room.

However dream was very quick, the wireless connection does not last for more than a minute, I must unplug base (receiver/usb hub) to get the wireless back again and there is no other way around.

Connection picks up again but drops after a minute it does not stay on for more than 3 minutes regardless of idle or in use.

Receiver and transmitter could be side by side same problem.

Iogear is quick to reply (weekdays only) however they seem to use redundancy, asking questions that were addressed in the first message sent to them. I am not impressed with it, but let's hope it is just a minor problem soon to be forgotten.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. The GUWIP204 has been tested with both Window 7 64 bit and Windows Vista 64 bit. 1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: looks nice

Cons: definitely NOT Mac friendly. I even installed the latest version of software from the iogear site but the software wouldn't recognize the device. Don't bother calling or chatting ( I did both) there tech support because you either spend most of your time on hold or staring at the last response only to have them run you in circles and come to the conclusion that this device does not work with OS X 10.7 as advertised.

Other Thoughts: If you're a Mac user, look for another alternative.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. We have tested the GUWIP204 with Mac LION 10.7.0 and 10.7.1. Today we tested the GUWIP204 with Mac Lion 10.7.2. We were able to connect to a flash card and USB jump drive with no problems Please contact our customer service at email: support@iogear.com and let us know in more detail on when and how you’re having this experience. We strive to ensure our customers are serviced with a properly working unit to exceed your satisfaction. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.
